Congratulations to all of you! I looked at both programs and honestly was leaning more to Duke but due to the longer length and the travel I went with GU. I am currently at GU in my 5th semester and I do not regret my decision. It is a great program. It is very rigorous but everyone is so helpful and awesome. GU has found all of my preceptors except 1 and that was only because I already had that 1 lined up. I am looking at Duke for my DNP though! :)

Georgetown University does have 3 online NP programs. Family, Acute, Womens Health/Midwifery. They have had these for several years now. I know for a fact because I am enrolled in the Family Nurse Practitioner program. I am not sure if they offer DNP because I want interested in DNP because at this time it isn't necessary.

Ultraposh please let me apologize for offending you. But advice by definition means guidance or recommendations concerning prudent future action, typically given by someone regarded as knowledgeable or authoritative. Based on the information you provided you are neither knowledgeable or authoritative about the CRNA program at GU. Just as I am not; however, I am knowledgeable about grad school and particularly grad school at GU as I am a MSN-FNP student there. I was not trying to make you defensive I was honestly shocked that you would offer any advice on a subject that you have no first hand knowledge about. I myself didn't offer any advice other than the advice I give everyone who ask me about starting any MSN program at GU and that is "enjoy your life before you start". I can't possibly offer any academic advice to a CRNA student as I have never been in those 'shoes'. Just an FYI-If you give some one "advice" and you have no working knowledge then it really is just your opinion. And in my humble opinion, you giving advice to a GU CRNA is like some one who rides a bicycle giving me advice on how to drive a BMW. I mean there really is no comparison. Good luck studying for your undergrad ! Hope that works out for you.

Georgetown University has multiple start dates throughout the year depending on what program you are wanting. FNP starts 5 times a year. I am enrolled now and LOVE it!!! Hard but definitely a great program with a great reputation.

So you haven't even completed your undergrad yet and you are offering advice on GU's CRNA program? WOW! Undergrad was a bunch of busy work compared to grad school. I am currently enrolled in GU's FNP program and I know the CRNA program is in a completely different league.I have nothing but respect for anyone who gets into grad school but especially the CRNA programs as they are hard core. I have no advice except enjoy life before you start!

You can actually purchase a program to help with formatting for APA. PERRLA and RIVERPOINT are both really good. Just make sure your program doesn't have a problem with you using them. PERRLA is the one I prefer. You can get it for $35.00 /year.

There are plenty of FNP programs available and many of them look at more than just your GPA. They look at work experience along with volunteer activities as well. Some even allow you to provide an optional statement to explain any lapses in school or less than stellar grades. I believe that taking the GRE will help. The Masters level courses that you have already taken will help to show that you are very capable of doing Grad school level courses. Ask the schools do they look at cumulative or science/nursing based GPA. That may help you identify or eliminate schools that will work for you. Best of Luck!!

I took a position as a case manager. I work in a large inner city hospital and work 12's on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. It still gives me the opportunity to review charts, interact with the team and patients. So far so good. I did Home Health Care for a while but schedule can be to chaotic for me.

I am starting the program January 6th. I can whole heartedly recommend the program thus far. My experience has been nothing but positive. When I was gathering info on schools I looked at A LOT of programs and Georgetown met all of my needs and the criteria I wanted. As far as financial help I did not qualify for any financial aid in the form of grants or scholarship but I did receive enough federal school loans to pay for it all. The program is expensive but to me it is an investment into mine and my family's future. Best of luck!!!

Hi Mya888. There is a lot to do after you receive acceptance. I was accepted in October so I have had longer to get it all together. Have you done your welcome call with student support? If not they will explain and walk you through a lot of it. My experience has been nothing but positive. Anytime I have had a question or concern they have been johnny on the spot. They even call to check on things if she hasn't heard from me in a while. Let me know what instructors you are signed up for.

Hi 2015. I got all of my books for GU's Patho and Research Methods including the recommended for under $150.00. (Even the online component) I got the ISBN #'s from the school and googled it. I ended up buying them from 3 different places but they were all here with in 4 days. Amazon is pretty good plus you can get free shipping on some books. I also ended up getting 2 books from BookByte. I am with you about the renting and ebooks. I have most of my books from my undergrad plus I like to highlight and underline. :) I heard we will use a lot of the books again in the program. When do you have Patho and Research methods?

Hi 2015. Congrats again on your acceptance. For Georgetown you will need an opthalmascope and otoscope fro clinicals. You will have to do an online orientation "class" and in orientation they will discuss electronic and techinical requirements needed.

University of Alabama (NOT USA). They have dual FNP/MHP for rural populations. Program is online and 49 credits. Tuition is like $300-$400/credit hour.

I will be starting Georgetown University FNP program in January adn from what I understand we do have to purchase an oto/opthalmoscope also. Best of Luck!

2015, Congratulations on getting accepted into Georgetown!!! I have also heard from others that $80k is to much money but for me it is an investment in my future. A lot of people will say it doesn't matter where you go to school but where I am from it absolutley matters. There are 2 local schools that have FNP programs that put out alot of FNP grads. I work in a large academic hospital and have spoken with many of the attendings about who they would hire. Hands down they all said they would hire the" New Grad" ARNP from the more prestigious school over a lesser known school. Two of these MD's offered me a job for when I graduate once they found out that I was going to Georgetown. I think that most new grads are on a pretty even playing field as far as skills but when we are wll applying who gets chosen for an interview??? In a market that is saturated with FNP grads my belief is that the Georgetown name may not get me the job but it will get me the interview. That is just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions....

[COLOR=#003366]pacnwRN I can completely relate to how you are feeling. I start my FNP program in January 2014 but I had been researching schools for about 1 year before I applied. Online searches, Allnurses, co-workers, basically I got info from everywhere. There are so many options that I felt overwhelmed by the info. After a while I made list of what I wanted from a program and started looking again. My next list was based on what would work for me personally. Like Soon2bAGNP I ended up choosing a program that arranges my clinicals for me. That was one of my non-negotiable points. So my suggestion is to decide what you want in a program and then search. priorities2 I completely agree with you!!I have been accepted to Georgetown FNP online program and they arrange the preceptors for my clinicals. Yes my school is expensive but having someone else handle my preceptors takes some of the stress off of me and allows me to focus on my studies. It was a trade off I was willing to make. For me Less $$ = More stress. I want to be the very best nurse practitioner I can be for my patients and that means putting all of my effort into my education not looking for a preceptor. My husband asked me when I was considering programs " Why do the hard things- not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills" (to paraphrase JFK)!

Great question. I am starting the FNP program at Georgetown in January and was really concerned about this as well. I have read a lot of negative viewpoints from MD's about NP's and was worried that I would not be respected. I had really started to rethink my decision. Thanks !

I looked into Chamberlain's Online FNP program (because it offers a discount to employees where I work) but was not impressed at all. The school is for profit. The program is new and the admissions counselor could not answer some basic questions about the program for me. The program is new so they have no data on graduation or pass rates for FNP boards. The do not have a carrer services department (or if they do the advisor had no idea) and their default rate on student loans is astronomical! (Which usaually means people enroll but never finish or finish and can't get a job). Plus you have to find your own preceptors. YIKES! I chose to go to a school that is more expensive but has a 98% graduation rate, 96% pass rate for FIRST time boards, career services, finds your preceptor and has a much much lower loan default rate. With that being said. I know several nurses who went to Chamberlain for their BSN and had a great experience. But getting a job as a floor nurse and as a FNP are 2 very different things. Whatever program you choose, you will get out of it what you put into it! Best of Luck!

I have recently been accepted into an online FNP program that does provide the preceptors for clinicals. There are multiple reason why I was interested in the program but one of the main ones because of that. My programis expensive but for me it is well worth it. I can focus on school and not having to worry about finding a preceptor. I know other APRN students who have been unable to find preceptors and then end up delaying graduation because of it. There are services that will help you find a preceptor BUT they charge a fee. ONe of the students I know used a sevice but ended up having to drive over 200 miles and stay in a hotel just to complete one of her clinical rotations.

Hi Canucks090! I have been accepted to the January 2014 part time Cohort and was considering switching to the fulltime track. With that said though I can't quit my job. I only work weekends so I can spend all week on school. How much time do you spend per week preparing for each class? I am just not sure if I should play it safe and do the part time or attempt the full time. Any advice? Thanks!
