How hard is the maths to become a Registered Nurse?
i'd kind of like to know the opposite. What does it take to move to Australia and New Zealand? Visited Australia several times when I was in the Navy. A WONDERFUL country.

Are there any new grads that are struggling to find a hospital job in the GTA?
I concur that applying all over, outside your zone of confidence is probably your best bet. As to anyone else out there, as am I. My biggest problem is my age. 58 graduated last May, got my RN last August. My biggest geographical problem is the nearest metro area is DFW or Dallas-Fort Worth. Given the time or departure and arrival from home is about 1.5 to 2.5 PLUS!!! depending on traffic. Don't know the miles and areas you are talking about in CA, or is that KM? I can't move as I own my property and sales are slow. I will rent for now when it does. Keep applying and not to sound morbid, but I love the poem, "Don't go gentle into that goodnight" ...of lost resumes into the electronic abyss. Keep plugging and bugging! Wishing us all good luck!

Age Discrimination in Nursing
I am right in the middle of this. I am 57. I got my LVN last year and my RN this year. I haven't found a job yet. Just a "Thanks but no thanks...", "We are reevaluating this position..." or "We are looking at someone who might be a better fit...". It is frustrating for me. I worked in avionics in the Navy, I am computer literate, a BS in Computers, and I can say that I gutted it out through two gruelling years of school and I never had to remediate or retake a board. Sounds arrogant, doesn't it. No! I am proud I did it. With all the people who started and dropped from the program, I never let it get me down. I am already heading towards either a BSN or MSN. Still deciding. I will add that I have been out of the workforce for over a decade. I was so burned out in the computer field, I just didn't go back. It is hard to talk about a work history that is over a decade old. I do have great references from instructors, floor staff, friends and others... I just want to work. I don't think God would put me through all this to sit on my duff to look at a diploma on the wall! Really would love some advice if you have it.

How To Answer The Most Common Nursing Interview Questions
I am so frustrated with the whole process. You go forward, hat in hand and say "I want to work here!" It seems as if we are doing them a favor by showing up. I am older and it has been more than a few years since I did an interview. I got started right after my did passed and did the LVN year great and moved into the RN and passed. Now I am waiting to take the boards. I had two interviews with this hospital and had no clue as to what they were going to ask or expect. I tried to be gentlemanly and respectful. They asked some vague questions and I told them what a patient had said before I took the shift as a student. It was threatening and I just dealt with it and had a good relationship by the end of shift. My tip is don't actually say what people say, just rephrase it as "It was threatening. or "It was not nice." I have no idea what young nurses, with little or no experience are supposed to answer with. I may be older, but naive in that I am here to serve the patients I care for in the best way I can. I don't bend over backwards for political gain. Perhaps I should.

LPN to RN Experiences Shared
Our LVN-RN (Texas) starts Wednesday. I am nervous as we took the NCLEX-PN yesterday and can't get any info for the quick answer as it apparently has to be verified by a live person at Pearson Vue before you can do that and nobody works weekends. We both got 85 questions and are nervous. Got the positive response on the "Trick" but am still anxious. Trying to get my mind off it and wait till tomorrow!!! Good Luck.
