Reasoning against pushing meds through a-line?
I know you aren't supposed to do it, but what is the reasoning behind not pushing meds through an a-line?

I just completed all the paperwork and I am waiting for them to get back to me regarding the physical. I will let you know what I think once I work a few shifts for them.

Shift report form
I work in an open heart unit and report was one of the things that I stressed over for the first couple months. I basically use a modified fancas in which I put everything that pertains to cardiac and fluids at the top. I start off with the history and then I do the following: IV's - what is running where and at what rate. Cardiac - heart tones, ectopy/arrhythmias, rate/BP, chest tubes, urine/foley, vascular/pulses, edema, pacer wires, incisions. I usually talk about the labs and meds at this point. Respiratory - lung sounds, SATS, vent/O2, rate, suctioning/cough, spirometer GI - bowel sounds, diet, BM's, nausea, emesis Neuro - A&O?, pupils, strength, movement I complete it by talking about the family and visitation. I think this is a good way to give report on an open heart unit because it addresses the most important stuff first and moves down the line.

Need help with a resume - open heart
The job postings at my hospital are very non-specific. The job description I got was for nurses in general and wasn't unit specific, so that didn't help. I am working full time on an open heart unit, but I want to pick up some per diem hours through an agency at another CVICU. They don't really say much in their ad other than the amount of experience required. I really want to write a comprehensive and professional resume and since this is my first nursing job, I am a little unsure how to go about it.

Need help with a resume - open heart
I got the job description, but it wasn't unit specific. My unit is very similar to your in that we take a lot of the same patients. I really like how you summarized everything. Does anyone else want to add theirs to this thread? This could be a good resource for us.

Need help with a resume - open heart
I have asked my supervisor for a copy of my job description. I am sure it is a good place to start with my resume.

That's a good question. I will have to look into that.

Need help with a resume - open heart
That helps, thanks a lot! I only have a year experience and we don't care for kids. We also take care of thoracotomy and vascular patients. Anyone else with any input?

I am currently trying to write a new resume, but I am having trouble putting it together. I work in an open heart unit and I would like to detail my job responsibilities. Can anyone offer some tips or help me brain storm so I can write this in an intelligent sounding manner? Thank you!

Lasalle, Montgomery Hosp. Program??
Bumping this up as my interview is approaching and I am getting nervous.

Lasalle, Montgomery Hosp. Program??
I actually decided to email the director of LaSalle's masters program and she told me that they are flexible on it. She did say, though, that you must have 3 of the classes complete, but I can't recall which ones at this moment. They say they are a 27 month program, but requiring 7 classes to be complete before you even start technically makes it a 39 month plus program.

Classes filled 2 years in advance?????
Wow, full for 2011?!?!?!? I really hope that isn't true.

Best GRE study guide?
I ordered the Kaplan book. Now I guess my next question is how long to prepare?

I'm interviewing at Montgomery in June, and I believe it's for the class starting in 2009... at least I hope so.
