Should I become an LVN?
I am an LVN (LPN) now. The unfortunate truth is that CNAs do the most work but the healthcare field in general is demanding. If I get a break, its usually not at the same time everyday.

"Smart" students make bad nurses?
In general, that is usually true b/c people that are good with books don't always do well with hands on and vice versa. Like all blanket statements there are always exceptions to the rules. I was an excellent student and I have been told I am an excellent nurse.

ISU LPN-BSN Spring 2016
Hello! I am also applying for 2016. I didn't realize they turned people away. I received a letter today stating they may not get the opportunity to review all my information since it was not received b/f Sept. 1. I think I just bugged them to death is all. I hope I am able to start in the spring if not I guess I will go to plan B.

Seniority rules right?
Welp, I learned from that situation. Resident recovered fully. I quit that job and got another one paying more money and working with less shady people. As it turns out there were some problems with her day charge nurse and she tried to pawn it off on me but everyone couldn't get their lie together. Yes, yes, yes, I should have documented but I did not. It's over now. :)

Seniority rules right?
I should have trusted my gut about this place and left after the first day but I didn't. I've been an LPN 4 months and 10 days. I work in long-term care in the evenings (4pm-12am). It is a 70 bed facility and I have 35-37 residents. It seems like every evening when I get there that place is full of chaos. One evening in particular the CNAs told me a resident was hurting in the leg or hip. The resident is immobile and requires full assistance. I told them to hang on a second I would be right there. Before I could look in her chart for her dx they ran to the other nurse on the other hall and called her to the resident's room. When I entered the room the other nurse had both of her hands under the resident's thighs. After she finished her assessment she gave the lecture on the resident's dx and that it could be the possible reason for it. Then she turned to me and asked if I felt the difference. Now to fast forward. It turns out the lady had a fractured femur. The other nurse denies she said anything to me but does admit entering the room and examining the resident. She also said she walked out of the room immediately upon my entering it. This nurse is a persistent liar and blames anything and everything off on everyone she possibly can. The point is this has turned into a state issue for obvious reasons. She has been a nurse 5-7 years and I have been a nurse 4 months. Neither of us documented examining the resident. This went on for 2 weeks b/f it was discovered to be a fracture so it has passed through many hands including the ADON. They are all blaming me. My question is don't the senior personnel share the blame? Shouldn't they have vetoed my decision? I am stuck. Advice? Thoughts? Comments?

Advice for a stuttering nurse
(Hugs) I stutter also. I would recommend practicing common phrases. Anxiety worsens the problem no doubt. Admit you are nervous. Try applying at some "less desirable" places. In all honesty, I pray. Moses had a stuttering problem too. Best of luck!

nursing eating young
I am a new graduate LPN and it has been my experience that some nurses eat their young and some nurture their young. I have been in the field approximately 3 months and I work in long-term care. My full-time job stinks because they eat their young. The person that trained me started 2 weeks before me (she has 22 years experience) and most of what she taught me was wrong. They leave me things to do with the fullest of intentions to see me fail so that they can gripe. Except for a couple of the older nurses, no one will help me with anything. The CNAs won't even listen to me. The DON won't address the issue and the administrator? Not sure what her stand is on anything. On the other hand, my prn job. They are awesome! I love that place but they pay less. The nurses are more seasoned and kind. They take the time to explain everything. They are awesome. The difference (I think) is in the field of nursing, you need your team. It is hard if not impossible to accomplish anything without a team. At the same time you are responsible for everything that happens under your care so no one is willing to take a chance and help anyone else because they are busy covering their own behind. That's why they eat their young. :)

2014 Georgia Piedmont Technical College Lpn Program admission
I can't remember what I gpa was. I think it was a 3.6 or so I just finished in August it was my first time applying. Originally I wanted to be an RN but I could not find the time to take Microbiology or Speech so I decided to try for the LPN after I got laid off last February. My TEAS score was 78.7. There was a girl in my class that had a 88 or 90 on her TEAS. I'm not sure what her gpa was. There were others in my class with 3.9 gpa but I think they had a very low TEAS score. Are you going to attend GPTC?

Still Waiting...Patiently
Of all the forums and blogs no one, I repeat no one ever mentioned having to wait some freaking infinite amount of time for a stupid authorization to take Boards! This is absolutely ridiculous. Did anyone else have to wait for an authorization to test in order to sign up for the NCLEX? If so, how long did you wait? What did you do or study while you waited?

Starting LPN Program in Sept 2014 HELP
I will be finishing the LPN program in a month. I live in Ga and there are lots of long-term care facilities that hire LPNs. I decided to take this route so that I could work after getting my license and complete an online bridge to RN. RNs have the advantage right now. I definitely agree that RN is the way to go but before you quit see if they will work around your schedule. Your current employer may even pay tuition reimbursement.

Considering an online bridge program
lol. Thanks, Pixie.RN. I saw your post shortly after making mine. Honestly, the CPNE is the only thing that is keeping me from doing the Excelsior option. I need more forgiveness. I went through checkoffs as an LPN and it was stressful. We lossed half of our class to checkoffs. I wish there was another way. I really do. I love the idea of self study but the CPNE scares me.
