So you've only been studying for 9 days total? Why the pressure to take the test so soon? Is there a job waiting? I'd try doing half what you're doing spread over at least a few more weeks. You can still move the date, right? If you are doubting yourself along with not passing the practice tests, I would change the date. Good luck

Crusin', IMO you may want to remove your picture from your avatar if you are talking so openly about your practice. Yes, do not sign a contract and try to stick it out for at least a year. I hope you find your dream job!

In my experience, It all depends on the institution and what their payscale dictates. I have only interviewed at hospitals. One was a pay cut, but most were what I make now as an RN or $2-5 more an hour. I just had this discussion with my husband regarding pay similarities between RN and NP and it seems that the Staff RN rates in my area are competitive with what union nurses are getting (which are generally the best). Unfortunately, this competitive pay has not yet carried over to NPs.

That sounds like a lot of extra time you're putting in. Even if you were being paid, is all that work okay with you? Is he aware of how much you're taking home? I would bring it up, and that you'd like to be compensated or say, be taken off call every other weekend and switch to only one call weekend. In other words, see if he is willing to lighten the rest of your load.

Keep contacting the practice but don't stop searching in the meantime. Hopefully you are still working as an RN in the meantime? After more than a year of looking (I had a baby along the way to slow my search down some) I was finally verbally offered a position yesterday in an outpatient specialty practice with an MD willing to provide a residency. I'm in disbelief that all my obsessing over jobs and interviews and how I appeared, and if they liked what I had to say is finally over. Now I'm just scared that I've been out so long and have forgotten so much!! Planning on looking through old class notes and books. Keep us informed and good luck! ?

I think it sounds pretty okay but not having any kind of retirement savings account would bother me. I suppose you could buy a tax-free IRA CD every tax year while you're there otherwise how will you save for it?

Sorry. Yes, the NPs are viewed as a part of the nursing staff and therefor hospital staff meaning there is no special perks such as parking unfortunately.

Hey all. Just curious aside of pay, what types of things have you negotiated into accepting a position? I'm awaiting an offer that will come this week for my first NP position. It's the the city and parking spaces are at a premium. The shortest wait list they said is a few months long. I'm forced to drive because of daycare pickup and drop off. Do you think HR has any pull in finding a parking spot as part of my acceptance? I'm thinking it won't hurt to try!

I say hold out for something more closely aligned with primary care if you're still able to pay the bills with your job now..

Hello, I'm about to accept a position for an inpatient role-very excited! I lost my old Littman SE stethoscope in the midst of clinical rotations. Which stethoscope is best? Should I just spend the $$ for the Littman Cardiology III? My role is not in cardiology and will be used for basic pre-procedural assesment. What has been your choice? TY

I think since you already have another job lined up giving less than two weeks doesn't matter. Hopefully you've said your goodbyes already to your favorite patients or had letters sent out? Not sure how that works. Good luck with the new job and for future happiness-you definitely deserve it!

Wow, how does every thread become an appropriate place for you to bash NP schools and the profession in general? For someone that has so much negative to say about it, it amazes me you still want to be an NP..

Hey all. So I had both of my second interviews early last week. Both went well I think. I have heard back positively for a third and final interview with one but not the other. I know there are other candidates to be interviewed but this one that I have not heard from yet would be my preference. Is it too early to check in for a status update?

Yes, I agree with the others-it sounds like you need to shadow a few APRNs and see what you are drawn towards. NP school is hard work, no doubt about it. If you don't have a solid idea of what you would be intersted in doing when you finish youre going to have a hard time finding motivation to finish all of those papers and your clinicals..

No, not too interesting. Mostly pulling any pertinent patient history from various MD notes and then completing a limited physical and filling in the blanks of the assessment as well as educating on NPO status, what to expect day of surgery etc etc...

50 a day?!! Whaaat? That isn't even mathematically possible even if you aren't taking a lunch break and seeing a new patient every 15 minutes from 8am-5pm..

Wow, I wish! The starting figure I got was about 55K higher than the salary quotes I've been getting for Inpatient NP jobs.. Oddly enough though, when I enter 'Boston' and not the suburb I live in (as I first did) the salary is right on. So maybe it is accurate for cities?

To me the post was useless hot air. Who it was for is still confusing to me. Comparing apples to oranges as PP said is correct. We are of a different species and I for one never hoped to be an MD.
