  3. Theoretically, it is possible just like new grad MD without experience but with good rotation. It is ideal to have ICU experience to be a good acute care NP.
  4. As far as I know, job market in California is very good. I do not know the situation in San Diego.
  5. Until 3 years ago there were 2 or 3 offers right after NP schools, and there is none for many new grads. Very competitive market in TX.
  6. I see too many new grad NPs who compete with handful jobs in big cities in TX, good opportunities in rural areas but not in big cities.
  7. I think if you are young you need to have DNP for the future I see more people getting DNP now and some jobs start to require DNP in my area.
  8. I am writing this post in 5/2018, did you find a job yet?
  9. Newly licensed NP working as RN? I am a recently licensed family nurse practitioner, the job market for NP is not good in my area so I do not know when I will be able to find a NP job although I have been actively searching for it. I was not working for a year due to NP school and some illness. I am thinking going back to RN role and do some bedside PRN nursing while I am searching for NP jobs. I was working mostly med-surg but I would like to get a job in ER so I can gain some experience which may be helpful for future urgent care NP job hunting. My question is I do not know if anyone will hire me as RN if they know I have NP license? How I am going to explain this to them? thank you !
  10. you can do case management, nurse educator, home health, surgeries, clinics, ... if you get your master or PHD you can become a faculty member at nursing school.
  11. Every business is money driven, and hospitals is the machine to make money. We as caregivers must do whatever takes to make the money. The ratio can be a difficult criteria to judge the quality of patient care. They can make you do more if you have fewer patients or do less if you have more patients. Patient care does require time and it is the thing I need the most. Time is essence but it is never enough! I heard nurses in California has better working environment.
  12. Hey, Josiah, I will be in school for FNP soon, how many times do you have to go campus per week during regular classes? since it is online program, I hope it is not much traveling to handle, is it hard program? If school arranges precptors, is it going to be in Galveston or Houston? thanks a lot.

  16. does anyone know how many days required to go to campus per week during regular classes at UT houston center FNP program? I also applied UTMB and it is supposedly online program , I don't know if UT Houston FNP is also online program? thanks!
  17. I just learned that UTMB FNp requires 49 hours while UT houston only requires 41 hours, so this will make the fee higher, plus it is not in Houston town. UT Houston suppose to be a better school, why UTMB needs more credit hours? anyone knows why?
  18. I just recently heard that MD Anderson give employees great benefits, including a lifelong health care plan if you work for them for over 10 years, also you will get nice pension after work there for 20 years. It sounds too good to be true since my hospital does not have any of these. Then I called Human Resource today but they would not give me any answer and one lady just told me change may be underway. I am planning to apply for MD Anderson, does anyone know how is exactly their benefits? Thankssssss!
  19. In my school one has to have RN experience to apply for NP program.
  20. Thanks a lot Michael for all the information. What I worry about is the search for preceptorship, and hiring potentials after graduation if it is not a local school.
  21. Michael, Did you find more information about Walden? I also called Walden and they seem very nice and helpful. Where did your friends go for NPs? Did you make decision yet? I am looking for BSN-MSN FNP, I am also in Texas, Thanks.
  22. How is the applyin process for you ? is it very competitive? do you have to go to campus at all? Thank you!
  23. Thanks for the information. Do you think local physicians usually care about graduates from local schools since they have better reputation in the area?
  24. Hey, everyone, I would like to know you guys' opionion about going to out-of-state online NP program. Do you think it will affect the employment and network because it is out of state program, although clinical hours will be in local facilities. How the students will get connected? It does not require to go campus at all. Does it affect job market if I choose a school less famous? thank you in advance!
