Anatomy & Physiology I/II Summer 2013
I just finished my A&P I summer session (4 weeks) and got an A! It was literally all I did for 4 weeks, and it was greuling. Tons of memorization. It's the first college class I've taken in YEARS and YEARS. and even those that I took before I didn't take seriously. I had to learn to study, basically. I am not convinced that you can do anything you put your mind to, blah blah blah. I wish I had signed up for the second summer term for A&PII and just gotten it out of the way. Accelerated courses all the way! OH YEAH! Get Barron's EZ anatomy, it's basically a cliff's notes version of the textbook and gives you the big picture before attempting to absorb all of those annoying details. Saved me for sure.

Yes! What about you?

Who taking A&P this summer?
I have, and we have lab every day directly after lecture every day. I studied up on the first 4 chapters before class started and I'm glad I did as we are already almost through all of that material and today will only be day 3 of this week.

Anatomy & Physiology I/II Summer 2013
I'm taking it beginning this Monday... it's a 4 week class. I also have no high school background in either chemistry or biology. HA.

Kicking a bad habit
yes! I've been a smoker for about 10 years. I quit a couple years ago for 4 months and since then I fall off the wagon every couple of weeks for a night out or something, but am generally a "non - smoker".... but let's be real, I am still smoking. I'm trying to officially kick the habit before school starts or I know I'll be full blown smoking again in no time. Plus all those long hours at clinicals with no chance for a break - don't want to be "niccin".

How many nursing schools are you applying to?
I only applied to one. I found the one program that had a very clear cut acceptance policy. Certain scores, certain grades, etc. That way I am in complete control of being accepted or not. I don't think I could handle a lottery school or one that hinges on an interview / letter..

Would I be able to handle Chem & Psych and get A's while working 25 hours per week?
"I'm told one needs to study at least two hours outside of class for every hour in class." I'm taking an accelerated science class (well, starting Monday) and if this is accurate then I will be dedicating 15 hours a day to this class.

Mad at myself
That's rough. You're being super mature about it.. I'd at least beg for an extra credit opportunity or something to make up for it.

Taking Micro alongside nursing courses..
MathHatingNurse - that. sounds. insane. Kudos to you for passing.

Grades on science pre-reqs
I guess it depends on how competitive the program is. Have you talked to an adviser about where the bar is set? Even though my program only requires a 19 on ACT to apply, I asked and was told that unless you have a 24 it's extremely unlikely that you will be selected.

Taking Micro alongside nursing courses..
I could also take it the semester before nursing starts but I'd be taking it alongside A+PII and Psych and nutrition...

Life Expenses in Nursing School?
I work for in-home non-medical caregiving company. I work night shifts and sometimes 24 hours shifts. It's super easy stuff. It's like getting paid to study. You just keep an eye on elderly woman in their homes, pick up their slack in the daily living areas which generally include making meals for you both, running a load of laundry every once in a while and doing medication reminders. Most of my clients are very self sufficient physically but have terrible memory issues and I am there more to just orient them when need be. A lot of the time they just want to do crossword puzzles and watch tv so you have plenty of time to study. The studying is not against the rules or anything slick either, it's totally acceptable. You are even allowed to sleep at night. They pay like $8-15 an hour depending on where you live, and are always hiring.

Taking Micro alongside nursing courses..
The nursing program that I am applying to requires only A+PI as a pre-req. The sample schedules they have include Microbiology and Psychology classes alongside full nursing course loads each semester. Ideally I would like to knock out all of these non-nursing courses first but without them the nursing courses all fall shy (by like 1 credit hour) of making me a "full time" student in the eyes of financial aid, thus I have to take something alongside them. My questions is this: Is it going to kill me to take a first semester nursing course load along side Microbiology? The only course that would fit with the nursing schedule is a Friday only class and it looks to be like 6 hours long or close to it. My other option is to take it during the summer and tack on two "easy A" online courses to the semester or something to keep my credit hours up. Anyone have this issue with credit hours / financial aid? What to dooo?

I think most nursing programs are really hard. I had a friend that got his BSN at MTSU and he said it was absolutely horrible. The teachers were not helpful or friendly or particularly good at teaching. BUT he got his RN and he's employed and in grad school now. I decided that CSCC is the program that will get me where I need be the fastest, and that works for me.

Those are the requirements to apply, but to actually be accepted they use a point system. ACT scores of 20 - 1 point, 21 - 2 points, 23 - 3 points, 24 + - 4 points. A + P I grade of A - 4 points, B - 3 points, etc. A previously earned baccalaureate degree will get you another point. I was told that 7 and 8 pointers make it in, and occasionally 1 or 2 6's will make it in with great GPAs if they have the room.

Hello! I'm planning on starting the nursing program Spring '14, and getting all of my non-nursing classes out of the way before hand. Anybody else starting soon? & Does anyone know anything about the clinical locations? I'm hoping we have some at Vandy, etc.
