All Muslim students in my program have been allowed to wear what their religion deems appropriate without issue.

You'll get varied opinions on this one. Some people felt pre health was a waste of their time and some people loved it. I took pre health as an adult going back to school with a family. I needed to upgrade and I wanted to make sure I could handle a course load on top of my other responsibilities. For me, it was a worth while experience and the sciences right before nursing school was a great refresher and helped to give me a good base understanding.

I'm in school full time, work, married, 3 kids with extra curricular activities and still manage dinner with friends or weekend outings. It's time management! I can't let any one thing consume me and while there are days I feel the crunch I still have a life outside of school. I think if you eat, breathe, and sleep school you drown. You need some down time. Even if it's a few hours a week. It'll take some time to get into the swing of things but once you establish a routine it gets easier. Of course around midterms and finals my social life takes a bit of a dive. Good luck!

^ this is what worries me!! I am currently in a nursing program filled with fluff and will be the first graduating class to write the NCLEX. I fear that my class is not being adequately prepared for what our exams will cover in the end.

I have my med surg clinical orientation sept 3 and 4, then I start classes again the following day. I've been taking summer courses to lighten my load for the fall and winter semester this year so I've kept busy. I am eager to get back to a more full time schedule and my placement though!!!

We had mandatory electives (psych I and psych II) and then we also have a choice for two electives. We can take anything from gothic literature to language courses. We also have "nursing electives" that we have to take and can choose from things like public health, elderly care, chronic illness and health care system. If psych nursing interests you then I would think taking extra psych courses could be of benefit!!

I used the classic for first year and had zero issues with it, it was a good stethoscope. Unfortunately my cat made lunch of the tubing over summer break, which gives me a reason to get the cardiology III.

Tb is transmitted through droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes and someone without immunity inhales the droplets. The body mounts an immune response and the macrophages that ingest the bacilli fuse and inside the lesion is caseous necrosis which the scar tissue forms tubercles around. Only if the tubercles and inflamed nodes rupture can the infection spread. The tb skin test can reveal infection at some point but doesn't indicate active disease and a chesty X-ray will show turbercules in an inactive person. After exposure, 5% of infected people will develop active tb within a year but in other infected people the microorganisms cause a latent infection. The immune system can destroy the bacillus or the encapsulated bacilli can live dormant in the tubercle for years.

Most programs have a registration date and various schedule options based on the number in your cohort. For example last semester we had a choice between schedules A through H. Some classes were similar and some were different, it also depends on your electives and what days they decide your clinical placements will fall on. One semester I had Mondays from 8am to 8pm and only a single mid day class on Thursdays and Fridays (I forget Wednesday and Thursday). The next semester I had late starts two days, a day off and a 10hr placement on Sundays. It's hard to guess what your schedule would be as its dependant on a lot of things.

I'm also working in a restaurant while doing my bscn and I actually intend to stay there for awhile instead of finding a job in the medical field. My reasons are tips and a brain break!! Nursing school consumes most of my time so it's nice for me to go to work and not "think like a nurse" for a few hours. I'm sure I will switch to something else as I draw closer to graduation but for right now I'm happy where I am.

I jut finished patho I and have started patho II. The first part was difficult for me and I'm not sure if it was because I'm taking the condensed course (6 weeks instead of 14 weeks) or if its because previously we were tested on specific knowledge and not application. My tests were delivered as case studies and scenarios so I found I had a lot less memorizing and a lot more knowledge application, understanding and critical thinking. It makes sense that its delivered this way, it was just a learning curve for me. I had to totally revamp my study style and now instead of knowing that part of the patho of malignant tumors is nutrient trapping, I look at what happens during nutrient trapping and how these effects cause other physiological changes within the body (for example). The biggest part of patho for me was learning how to look behind and ahead to see what the cause and effects were in order to learn the processes. Hope this helps a little :) Eta - if you don't know your A&P really well then start brushing up on it now!! It's expected that we had a very good grasp on anatomy in order to understand patho!!

We have unisex navy pants and tops with our school patch on them. Not flattering but could definitely be worse!!!

^ seems a little harsh! I think that a support system is a support system regardless of wether its a spouse or a parent. Nursing school can be a daunting thing, especially for someone young. I think if you want a parent there then by all means take one! I don't think it reflects your professionalism at all. It may even help to have someone with more experience to help gain perspective.

The crock pot is a life saver in my house. We also do out homework together at the table after dinner. Sundays is a no study day in my house (minus the week before exams or tests) and we spend that day as a family. I use my evenings to study when the kids go to bed and between classes at school. I make cue cards and take them to the arena for hockey practices, or the Soccer field or swimming lessons. It's doable, it just requires commitment and organization. I do feel guilty sometimes but my husband is super supportive and I know that in the end this is for the betterment of our family.

I always wear long sleeves to a new clinical site and ask the staff what their policies are. So far I haven't had any problems with my tattoos and am allowed to have them visible. I do keep a tattoo sleeve in my bag in case I need it but I don't have anything vulgar or offensive so no one has seemed to have a problem so far. Check with school policies, mentors preferences and clinical site policies to be sure. We have had to remove all facial piercings and large plugs (although I personally think without the plugs in it looks worse haha).
