No Callbacks From Hospitals
I only had about 2 months LTC experience but they also hired 2-3 others that had NO healthcare experience at all.

LTC/Nursing Homes do all the vitals? Do they still exist really?
When I worked in LTC the nurses did all v/s on morning shift but on the night shift they asked the aides to do it. Now I work in hospital the nurses do BP and cna's are responsible for TPR.

What is the starting wage for CNA in your area?
I just got hired in a NYC hospital at the rate of $17/hr for night shift which is awesome since I was making $8/hr at a LTC.

Offered Hospital job and I declined but...
I applied for a hospital job online sunday night monday morning I was called in for an interview with 2 hours notice. I went totally unprepared and was late for interview. At the time they said they didnt know shift, hours, days etc.. About 30 mins ago I received a call and was offered the position however I declined because it is night shift and I have a small child and my husband doesnt get home until 11:30pm. Anyway instantly after hanging up the phone I regretted saying no and called back asap to accept the offer. Honestly if they say yes I have no clue what i'm going to do about childcare but getting my foot in the door is a big deal. Now I'm here waiting for the director to decide if she still wants me. Stressful all around the odds were already against me and I just made it worse.

Tips for a New Cna!!!
You will soon learn "ten is nothing" most days I have 12+ and the other night I had 21. All that stuff you learnt about in class is nothing like the real world. Yes at times you will have to cut corners especially when you work morning shift imo.

Those who work at a hospital- med surge floor specifically
With 12 hour shifts does that mean you only work 3 days a week?

I'm not the CNA I wanted to be.
I'm on my second week at a ltc yesterday I was assigned 6 residents which I was pleased with however after providing care for 2 I was reassigned to another floor because 2 cna called out. On the new floor I was assigned 11 more residents with 30 minutes until breakfast. It took me a long time to provide care for them I was still giving baths after lunch. I'm not sure i'm cut out for ltc or maybe its just the day shift. The other cna had 11 residents of her own and the nurse was not helpful. I requested help with the hoyer lift and was told go ask my peers for help. I asked the cna and she told me she had her own assignment to do. Ugh I think about throwing in the towel all the time.

ltc job stress
IMO it doesnt matter if you are a CNA , LPN or RN working in a LTC sucks in general. The work load is just too much.
-
do you keep a copy of your cna license in your wallet?
Just curious if anyone does this..thanks

Started My CNA Job
sorry to hijack your post but today was also my first day on the job and I was running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Most of the staff were unhelpful and didn't not want to be bothered with basic questions. Worst part is I'm going to be a floater so I feel like everyday will be the same. ugh

Time management is very important on this test. You can't focus on one question too long.
