  1. Never heard of this bridging thing. Do you have to take all those prereq. such as english, anatomy, etc? Is there anyone is Pa (Western) who has taken this program? Where do to you go to get this info or Excelsior? Can I do it from home? and how long does it take to get thru? Thanks for any info
  2. WOW!! Are we as LPNs getting used or what LOL so great remarks. Don't wish to hard for the union thing. At my facility the nurses are not union, but the CNAS are. Let me tell you I have aides who have worked there from 16 to 30 years. You want attitude. I have one who thinks she is a wound nurse. I have one who has been trained to trained other CNAs to pass meds. She thinks she has the education of a nurse. It was a three days course. Now don't get me wrong. I have great aides, there are days they are my eyes, ears, hands. But I would like some of these others to remember to respect others of their peers and the nurses and to remember their parameters! But that union protects them and they know it. I totally agree with the nurse about those mds, i cannot tell you how many times either i can't get a resident more help (sending them to nursing) or i get them back, and they cannot perform their adls or fight their way out of a brown paper bags. GOD Love those smiley face social workers that go around saying, "you'll going to love this resident, they are sooooo cute". There are times I have to wait till they fall and break something before I can get them off my floors. God are the hospitals like this?
  3. Good girl!! You are smart. You know what you are doing! Go to work and school, do the best you can and remember you cannot change these facilities, but you can make a difference in the heart of those residents! Just take give good care to them, paperwork will always be there. Good Luck
  4. Welcome to the real world of LTC. Yep i have done it, that includes passing medications, CBSs/Insulin, Assessing falls and sending out to hospital, checking in meds and supervisoring the aides that came to work. It happens alot in LTC, PC/AL. ( I got told once to, "think outside the box" and the other saying is," its not in the budget for more staff". You think those aides are burnt out give yourself a few more years and you will burn out too and possibly question why you went into nursing. My recommendation get more educations go for the BSN/RN degree and get out of LTC!
  5. This was the only place I know where I can talk about this! I have just started a new job ( almost 2months) at a Nursing Home ( Assisted Living). I thought I was doing pretty good with only 3 days orientation. I have assessed a TIA and infections and dehyrdation and was able to get things moving on all situations. BUT, last nite I made a med mistake. New adm. to a apartment. I gave the lady her meds at 8pm and they were all ready given on 8am. They were maintenance drugs. (Lexapro/Avapro. Nothing happen to the lady. BUT I feel like _ _ _ _! Didn't sleep at all. Call my daylight supervisor this morning, she seem calm and laid back, stated Okay haven't gotten that far this morning. Has anyone ever made a med mistake. I wondered how do we as nurses go through years of passing meds and never make a mistake. IS THAT POSSIBLE? I really like this job. Its exactly what I wanted at this stage of my life. Part-time, good salary, nice atmosphere, low turn over, close to home. I am a nervous wreck over this. I hoping they don't think I some kind of a flake. I am always very professional in appearance and my work ethics. I have alot experiences with medical office procedures. God am I that stupid with meds. Please someone let me know if they have ever made a mistake. I know we are human and we do make mistakes. Thanks :uhoh21: :stone
  6. Hang in there. I took the test. Never looked at how many questions I answer. I was there maybe 45 minutes. Thats all I remember. I walked out totally dumbfounded. I PASSED! I waited 10 days for results. GOOD LUCK :wink2:
  7. You keep at this! My sister had a very similar thing going, but she one of the people that want that answer. You may want to see an endroc. dr. thats what she did, she had many of those tests repeated and repeated she has finally got an dx of Lupus. She didn't have alot of the familiar symptoms either. Keep speaking up its your body and health. I work in Family practice for 8 years. We called all results Nl and Abnormal. I never may a call unless I had all the information as possible. If I didn't I was on that Dr. to give me a answer so I may call the pt back or I may sure he may the call!. I know this is happening all over. But as pt. you got to stick to your guns. Good Luck
  8. :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: Congra!!!!! From all of us who have taken that TEST!!!! Good Luck with your new career!!!!
  9. :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :) :) :) I thought it was the test was easy. Still was very nervous. My test in school were harder. Its a great feeling!!!!!!
  10. THANK YOU! I have a job interview on Tues!!!
  11. :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: Guess what I have a job interview Tues. Wish me luck. Just what I want. Close to home, the hours I want - part-time!!! Hopefully I will land my first job as a nurse.
  12. That is great about the LPN school bridges to the RN program. Have you talk to them to see what they suggest about your A&P classes. I hate to see you take that 3 times.
  13. Sounds good! I think you do know which direction you are going. I would have done the same thing. I looked into both kind of schooling. It was by luck that I found the Vo-tech, but I had every intention of going to the other even if it was an hour drive from my home. It all comes down to not the schools but how hard you study to get what you want. I wish you the best of luck!! Let me know how it goes.
  14. This is what the site is for! Sometimes you just have to hear others suggestions. No question is stupid (quote from my mother) The opinions you read from others is just that, but they do help. I am a LPN and thats as far as I am going. My brother and his wife are RN. We respect each other. My brother is going on, but not his wife. Everyone has a different road to travel or a plan in life. Take it all in. Follow your heart and you cannot go wrong. Good Luck. I sure you will make the right decision for you.
  15. HOORAH Know that feeling just passed in Jan. in PA. :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :)
  16. Boy do I know how you feel. I have roughly 20 resumes out. Nothing. I had an hosp. tell me we don't hirer NEW LPN. Damn what happen to the 8years as an MA in family practice. I just didn't give my first shot yesterday. I not going back for my RN. My husband was very supportive of me for quitting my job and going for my LPN (full-tim program). But I think he has had enough of the schooling thing too. I holding out, I am going to find the job I want. No matter what they say. Good Luck
  17. I went to a Vo-Tech school. The graduation rate and passing the NCLEX test has been about 97% of the students. I have friends going to private school and from what I have heard them say about their schooling. I don't see any difference. I know their pass rates weren't as good as ours. I like the hours better at the Vo-tech. M-F 8-3 including clinicals!!!
  18. Bit the bullet and go for the RN. I just finished LPN and the job search is not going well. If you are young put the time in now, you will really appreciated in your future. I know you are thinking about what happening now, but don't forget to think about your future. Life can throw some mean curve balls to you in the future, protect yourself. I not going on, because I am 48, mother and wife and I am tired of schooling and studying. JUST DO IT!!! It will all work out in the end. I wish I would have done all of this right out of high school. Good Luck
  19. I am out there now looking. Not sure for what. Your a little to far to travel for me. :chuckle
  20. Took my test Jan. (PA) I waited 10days! Most of my classmates only waited 3 to 4 days
  21. :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: Its a great feeling to accomplish becoming a nurse. Take pride Good Luck New LPN as of Jan. :)
  22. Congra!! :balloons: I passed my test Jan. No the feeling. :)
  23. I was a MA for 8years in Family Practice and that MA was out of line and very unprofessional. I have worked with alot of LPN when I was an MA and I found they treated me as their equal and were always willing to help with information that wasn't familar to me and I have received many of compliments from them on what I did know and my professional manner, in fact many people did think I was a LPN when I wasn't and I always made sure they new that I was an MA. I would have handled that situation the same way.
  24. Remember one thing, You are the student. You are learning. This is not your paying job. Slow down, think, stay organized. Keep a small notebook in your pockets regarding the floor, where things are, what you need to do. Everyone started new sometime in their life. Just absorb what is going on around you. Good Luck.

I worked with family practice doctors for 8years as an Medical Assistant. I finished LPN school in July of 2004. Took my boards in Jan. (Because the board lost my first application). I now looking for work. You will be find in family practice I know alot of nurses who started with a Dr. Office first then went on into other fields. I been out of family practice for almost 2 years. But if I can help let me know. I also have 2 years experiences in Peds. Hang in there its not hard once you get the routine down. It can get to be old hat and boring.
