There is a lot of research out there now not in support of nebulizers. We have switched to inhalers with spacers for all ages, masks for the little ones including infants. At the other facility I work at with pediatric vented patients we have switched from nebulizers there as well to inhalers being puffed through trachs and have seen no different in outcomes. I like it as I dont have to chase a screaming toddler around a hospital room anymore We just hold them down with the mask on until they take a breath. They will eventually and once they learn what's going to happen, its not very traumatic. For those that say nebulizers are the only thing that works for them, the results just don't show that in evidenced based practice, but sometimes I wonder if maybe its the humidity more than the medication that aids these patients??? :shrug:

I'm almost finished with Drexel's RN to BSN online program. I've loved it. They were super flexible with transfer credits. The advisor will even tell you which clep exams you can take if you prefere those over classes. The instructors are wonderful. There is a fairly strong writing component, but that didn't bother me. Let me know if you have any more questions. It's a little pricey, but transfering in the gen eds from community college saved me tons!

Keep us posted. Some of our staff would love to go to syringe pumps only.

I may get flagged for this, and I don't mean this negatively, but that's a pretty routine peds order for us. If you were uncomfortable with it, than why were you in the position to cover for another nurse? You shouldn't have been covering for someone if you don't feel comfortable. Your license is on the line. That's just my honest opinion.

I'm starting in Drexel's online RN to BSN next week. It seems very efficient. Drexel has a good name too and the diploma wont differentiate whether you went online or brick and mortar.

I aways figure you can't be to overdressed for an interview. I wore a suit to each of my interviews. I was a fairly young new grad and I wanted to make it known that I was serious. ~Kristy

We have several nurses on ur unit who came here from working there and HATED it. They would not recommend it for a second. I work in pediatrics, so I'm not sure what it is like for nurses working with adults. However some of our nurses say they will not take their family members there for what its worth.

How did you find graduates of this program? I would love to talk to someone who has done it. I'm an RN who has recently applied for the online BSN. I am interested in their MSN program as well. ~Kristy

The quick results show a pass or a fail. They will not give you a license number. ~Kristy

I recently had a 3 day old patient come in with jaundice and a high bili. We get these patients fairly often. Because of expense they come to the general pediatrics unit instead of the nicu. We have two types of bili lights the banks and the spot lights. We also have bili wraps. I had a mom insist on holding her child and every time I would enter the room the baby would not be under the lights. Needless to say the bili didn't come down, and management wants to know why I didn't let mom hold the baby and aim the lights on the baby. We put eye protection on the babies, but we dont have eye protection for the mom. Mom is of course obviously taller so she would be closer to the lights. Is this safe practice? Shouldn't mom have eye protection? What do you do in your facilities?

I've heard great things about Drexels online MSN programs. I'm looking into that route too. Let me know if you find any others. ~Kristy

I passed the CPNE in march in Mansfield. Lynn was such a wonderful help in passing the CPNE. I might try to stop by this year in philly to help out. She was wonderful. I definately recommend her workshop to everyone involved with excelsior college. ~Kristy

I took my NCLEX last thursday. I had quick results on monday. I didn't post a license on the website until today 8 days later. ~Kristy

I sat through the replay of the online open house at Drexel yesterday and I was very impressed. There is no maximum amount of credits you can transfer in. They seemed very flexible. I'm leaning towards their program. Anyone else familiar with this program? ~Kristy

Any one have any experience with Penn State or Drexel's online RN to BSN? I got my RN from Excelsior College and I love online learning, but I dont want the reputation anymore of the "Online School" on my resume. I'm from Pennsylvania and both of these programs have Brick and Mortor Schools with them, so no one will know I went online. I just wanted to hear feedback. ~Kristy

I'm debating in where to enroll for my RN to BSN. I like the idea of an online program for flexibility. Has anyone ever participated in PSU's online BSN or Drexel's? Any feedback appreciated. I'd like a BSN from a school with a good reputation.

Has anyone else had a tough time getting in touch with someone at the state board. I have called at least 5 times and have yet to talk to the right person. I get transferred to voicemails that are full, or transferred to voicemails that arent the right person. It's rough. All I wanted was to find out if my school sent in everything for me to get a temporary practice permit. I recieved an ATT and scheduled nclex but still no practice permit. I know I paid for it. Thanks for hearing my rant. ~Kristy

I was looking into different program options too. PSU would give me more credit for the courses I already took in nursing school than ycp would. just some food for thought. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet either. ~KRisty

I worked 1 1/2 yrs in oncology. Yes, it does get easier. When you see your patients suffer day in and day out it is almost a relief sometimes when their time comes. Sometimes, especially when it is unexpected, it can be tough. However, My preceptor as a new grad told me, families remember births of loved ones and deaths of loved ones. If you can make the death of a loved one a little easier for someone, than you have benefited them, even if you haven't helped to cure the patient. ~Kristy

Most of my friends in traditional RN programs have been hired on as GN's with the assumption that they cant keep working if they dont pass the boards. I was hired on as a GPN (graduate practical nursE) and worked for months before passing my LPN boards. You may find someone willing to hire you as a GN, but being from excelsior (of which I'm enrolled so dont take this the wrong way) you might have a tougher time. ~Kristy
