  1. I can't believe that i can finally post in one of these! Graduating with my BSN in May! We have midterms next week and its the first time i can say I'm excited about a midterm exam.
  2. Thanks for all the help. It ended up being a typo.
  3. That's what we were thinking Bravo. The problem I typed is exactly what it says on the paper. This was just a practice sheet before we take our dosage exam tonight. There's no explanation just the answer given. I'll have to ask if there is a typo. It was driving me nuts because I could do the advanced calculations but the easy one tripped me up.
  4. I must still have winter vacation brain because I cant seem to work out this simple question. Please help. Question Order: Toradol 15mg IV over 1minute Available: Toradol 30mg/ml in 2ml How many ml's will the nurse administer? I came up with 0.5ml but the answer is 1ml. I thought the 2ml was a distractor because it states the dose is 30mg/ml and it was just stating that you had a total of 2ml on hand. Sorry I know this is a simple question but I'm confused.
  5. Thanks for your feedback Stephanie. I actually have a job offer when I graduate but its a little far from home and with the nasty winters here I'm afraid to take it. Applying for positions now feels like I'm trying to put my cart before the horse but with looming loan payments I'm terrified not to start.
  6. So we have been told over and over to start our job search early. Professors advised that we start applying the January before graduation. Well that time has come for me and I'm confused as to how to even apply when we haven't graduated. If you try with the online systems you need to enter license numbers or the page wont submit. Is there another way that we should be applying? Just forward resumes to hospital HR? When did you start looking and did anyone get any interviews while you were still a student?
  7. Just finished my 7th semester my 8th and final semester starts in January! I love this post because it makes me remember what it felt like in past semesters and also makes me excited about the future. Way to go everyone whether its your first or last.
  8. I will be entering my final semester in my BSN program. I write 5 plus APA papers per semester, just in my Nursing classes that's not including my required core classes or humanities. Not sure what the requirements are for an ADN but I'm pretty sure they also have to write APA format papers. If you don't have the money for a new laptop schools have computer labs for your use.
  9. Nope we don't know their situation and to be frank I don't care what their situation is. There's this growing trend that people throw this whole "you don't know my situation" bologna in as an excuse. We all have situations, if the situation you are in makes you forfeit your morals then maybe its time to change your situation. If you are to busy to put the work into school withdraw or take a leave. Many people have had to do it and that's what makes having a degree stand out. It means you have sacrificed and worked through everything to EARN a degree. This boo hoo woe is me thing is ridiculous. How many times have we all heard the excuses?
  10. I responded to the ad. If the fool is dumb enough to give info about their school/program i will report it. Why? Because someone like this does not deserve to have the honor of an advanced degree. It lowers the bar and deminishes all that people who worked hard for the same degree have done to EARN it. I would do the same if I found out a classmate did the same thing.
  11. Proof that they don't all eat their young! Kudos to the amazing nurse that put that in there.
  12. She doesn't have a degree according to her op she started a program but didn't finish. She could take another semester in her program and attempt to raise her current gpa.
  13. I dont know of any that would take a GPA that low especially an accelerated program. You may want to take some easy courses to raise you GPA then look for a school.
  14. Right Don1984? This just isnt acceptable!
  15. That's awesome pookyp! Way to go! We all have something to give regardless of where we are in the program. We are a team and helping each other only increases our bond!
  16. I hear ya aubgurl. Lot's of negatives lately. I'm a hands on kind of gal and I've loved my clinicals even the one site that was less than stellar. There are so many great things that happen everyday and we need to focus on them. Thanks for sharing your story. We had a new grad from our program also and she stayed late after her shift (on her own time) to show us what she does when she starts her shift to organize her "plan of attack" for the day. We learned so much from her in just 30 minutes. She said that she did it for us because we have been working hard and she seen us looking for new info. WOOHOO kudo's for nurses that want to share their experiences and knowledge with us. The positive experiences are out there. If students aren't seeing them they just need to look and be proactive in seeking out these chances.
  17. I had a bad clinical site in the past so I understand both sides. Just want people to see and acknowledge the positives too.
  18. "I want to become a nurse practitioner because they are more holistic, so in a way nursing is just a stepping stone." Nursing is not the "stepping stone" of nurse practitioner, it is the core foundation of it. You will not be able to just toss away nursing foundation if you became an NP. It sounds like you need a break and honestly should reconsider becoming a nurse. You will be under stress everyday. If nursing school is to stressful you may not be capable of holding it together to be successful in nursing.
  19. I had a moment at clinical that made me pretty proud! So yes I'm going to brag a bit here. Yesterday at clinical I had the chance to work with the same patient I did on the previous clinical day. She needed to have her Antegrade Colonic Enema done. The staff nurse pulled me aside and asked if I would be comfortable with teaching her how to do this because she's never seen it done. That's right people the nurse asked me a mere student to show her how to do a procedure! I was floored and impressed by her. The staff on this floor is amazing and they have helped us to grow and learn it was great to be able to do that in return for one of them. I'm not sure that peds is the place for me but I would jump at a chance to work with such a wonderful group of nurse. I hope that we can all realize that there are wonderful floors and not every place "eats their young"! Just goes to show you that we will continue to learn far beyond our days as a student. If anyone else wants to share a positive experience here is your chance.
  20. I'm from the western NY area and its complete unheard of around here. Once you graduate u can enter a BSN program and get credit but if you choose to transfer before you graduate you get no credit for nursing classes. You may be able to transfer pre-reqs but that's even a big risk. If i where you I would finish your 2year and then move onto your 4year.
  21. babsy28 posted a topic in Travel
Are there any traveling FNP's on here? My ultimate plan is to travel as a nurse and I'm currently applying to grad school. I was wondering what opportunities are out there for FNP's. I've done a lot of research on traveling RN's but I havent found much info on traveling FNP's. I would like to know if there are any good opportunities.
  22. People do pass with 265. Keep your head up pass or fail, many people need to take the exam more than once or even more than 3 times.
  23. Thanks for the answer. Sorry about the text talk it slips out once in a while. I will have to order that book. I understand our scope as a nurse but it gets confusing when you see comments like I quoted. I see them frequently on here and other sites. I just wanted to clarify it. Do they do some other form of a careplan? I see quite a bit of posts from LPN's and LPN instructors saying that they make them. It can get confusing when you hear so many different things. I wish our school would spend some time on delegation and what the other levels scope of practice includes.
  24. I guess my comment never showed just my quote. Smh? Oh well what i said was i never knew that LPN's wrote nursing diagnosis. I thought that was considered assessment and fell outside the scope of an LPN. I'm not trying to start the RN vs LPN debate i would honestly like to know. Unfortunately our program does not outline the scope of others so im a bit in the dark on this topic.
