  1. Thank you, and you all are in my thoughts during this tragic moment.
  2. Hi everyone. I currently live in Indiana, graduated from my BSN program in May, but haven't taken the NCLEX yet due to some financial constraints. I was born and raised in Ohio, a majority of my family is still there, received my first college degree from OSU, and really would like to move back there. I plan to test here in Indiana but have already been looking into licensure by endorsement if I do decide to move. I am looking at job postings, and came across Staff Nurse and RN-PCC positions at the OSU Wexner. Does anyone currently work there, or worked there in the past, or know what the differences in these to job titles are? I read a few of the Staff RN job descriptions and they mentioned RN-PCC, but not the other way around. Thanks!
  3. Thank you for the list! IU Health and the Community Health Network in Indiana also have new RN grad residency programs.
  4. DO NOT listen to the negative self-talk! I have been there before and know how you are feeling. I had to sit out a total of 4 (non-consecutive) semesters off and on since I started nursing school due to having a baby and money issues. I experienced the negative self-talk wondered off and on if I was going to go back at all after sitting out. It does hurt, it is frustrating and annoying. But to be honest, and this may sound stupid, experiencing that frustration just made me more determined to finish. I am now about to start my final semester, and will graduate in May. It's not my original graduation date but life happens, you just gotta roll with it sometimes no matter how mad it gets you. Good luck and chin up.
  5. Agreed. What a mess! Seems like someone made that up to save time for them and ended up wasting the time of others who had to figure it out lol
  6. True, I didn't mean for my post to say that...I apologize if it came read that way.
  7. I don't have any tattoos (yet), but i do have piercings. I have 6 total in both my ears and my nose pierced. I use to have my tongue pierced but took it out recently (personal choice). Same as your school's program, we have a personal appearance policy that includes no visible tattoos or piercings because it might offend the patients. I have forgotten to (or just didn't care to) take out my nose stud during clinicals and have never had a health professional or a patient say anything to me that bordered on my piercing being offensive or unprofessional to them. I don't see my piercings as infection-control issues because they are not open wounds. I make sure to wear either one pair of earrings or none. I don't wear rings, necklaces or bracelets, and at times I forget to wear a watch. I got off track there for a minute, but basically, I agree. I feel that as nurses, people look up to us, and see us as professionals, but appearance is only one part of the professionalism that the patient and your colleagues will notice.
  8. Me too. So little rewarded out of so many applicants. Congratulations to those that received it but I have to admit I am pretty down. Only needed one year's worth of help. Bummer.
  9. And if I am not one of the recipients to have my status changed from Under Review.
  10. I read my lecture notes and go to the book for any clarification. We use PowerPoint slides and my instructors are pretty good about going in-depth on topics that are on those slides. Sometimes when I feel like we are just breezing through something (and for some reason this semester I have felt that way ALOT with Med/Surg III - Critical Care) I will go to the book. But mostly I do NOT open them...they just sit on my desk, waiting for me to give them some attention LOL.
  11. Oh that is not good at all. After reading that, I re-emailed the HRSA help desk about the scholarship. I was told this time that the deadline is September 30th, Not the end of October like I was told before...I guess there was some confusion with the scholarship and the loan repayment program. I was told that those that do not receive the scholarship would get an email but not really a reason why they didn't get it, and that as long as you haven't gotten the "I'm Sorry But You Were Not Chosen" email, you are still in the running.....which sounds great but I know, as I'm sure y'all know too, thee is a VERY slim chance at this point that we will get a "Congratulations!" email Just an added thought...
  12. Hi everyone. I have been reading this thread for a while but couldn't remember my password so i couldn't leave a comment. anywho, I called and emailed the helpdesk and was told over the phone that they are still processing applications and making final decisions. I was told via email that we have until THE END OF OCTOBER (wha?) for final determinations. This is WAY different than what is said in the application packet. My anxiety has been skyrocketing ever since i started reading this thread; I used to check my app status everyday but now I only check it once per week since it continues to say Under Review. The two women that I talked to said not to lose hope since there is still plenty of time, but I gotta tell y'all, I have very little hope left. I haven't read nor heard from anyone from Indiana that has gotten it. Oh well...my semester started at the end of August, I am slowly making payments, but this would have really helped me out on so many levels:scrying:. Congrats to those that have received it and good luck to us that are still waiting. Indiana State University GPA: 3.73 EFC: 0
  13. I just wanted to thank you so much for the effort you put into doing this massive project and sharing it with all of us! This is going to help me tremendously during the rest of my time in nursing school!
  14. It is doable, I do it now. I work nights only on weekends, total of 23 hours/wk so it really doesn't interfere with school during the week. Able to even get homework done during my shifts (an agreement with my supervisor). I have an almost 1 y/o daughter, a boyfriend, house to keep, friends and family to maintain, etc. I get mostly A's and a sprinkling of a B here and there, currently have a 3.7 GPA, Dean's List every semester. Stressful , but doable. Are the days already set or can the hours be moved around so that you can work some of them during the week and then some during the weekend? 20 hours isn't too bad. Will your support system be able to help with the children and house work so you will still have time to sleep and study? Good luck to you!
  15. I didn't plan to become pregnant during nursing school...but you know what is said about planning! I found out I was pregnant with my daughter around the end of the Fall semester of my second year, I was thrilled beyond words but also worried how it would effect my schooling. Being pregnant during classes and clinicals was not hard, my instructors were very helpful and willing to accomodate. Sitting in those tiny desks were not fun, I bascially had to become a contortionist to get in and out of them! I was due in August about 1 week before the new school year was to begin, but I still though I would be able to go back..I had talked to people and read posts on this site written who had done it and thought "Hey, I can too!" NO WAY! I felt like I was going wackadoo everyday from being so worn out with a newborn, there would have been no way I could even think about grasping information i needed to learn and retain. Plus my support system was lacking (it's there but not as much as I needed/still need) so that didn't help. I ended up taking a semester off and going from full time to part time. Even that was a struggle but it has gottten better the older and more independent she is getting. And I have learned to do only what I can handle and not overwhelm myself. I will finish, just maybe not as fast as I would like. Your situation may be different, if you have strong support systems that can help you with the baby so you can finish classes I say go for it. I agree with other posters, something will always come up. Waiting for the "right" time for things to be "perfect" may never come. I wish you the best in whichever decision you make!
