  1. Wow I totally agree with everything you said... I am constantly asked the same question, why won't I work in acute care.... well I never want to. Im happy in LTC and mental health. Thank you very much.
  2. dont leave your husband
  3. he sounds totally unprofessional
  4. work in a setting you truly feel passionate about !
  5. go and find another job.. even in the best long term care homes, its so hard to get everything done , and done right-- within the shift.... look for something better.. its too bad the residents are the ones who suffer in the end, and the place wont keep good nurses with a conscience. this is not worth your license..
  6. sounds like management has an alterior motive.. mistakes are probably common in long term care, its impossible to get everything right every single day, with all those residents, all those meds, all the concerns that come up, skin care, wound treatments, families and managers calling your phone, resident falls, meetings, inservices, (oh and breaks which we dont even have time to take) and all the documentation on top of that, i find it almost impossible to do everything im actually supposed to be doing on my shift... and i work fast and efficient, and have lots of experience
  7. I think it is just as stressful but at least once you are working , you are getting PAID
  8. My god, people are so rude to say something like that, that kind of thing really offends me as people will say the same thing to me.
  9. ewww thats why i dont ever answer my phone... put your foot down, and put yourself first... good for you!
  10. I absolutely love long term care as well, and my story is much like yours. I dont care what other nurses or people think about LTC being the bottom of the barrel job, I hope to stay in it for my entire career. It is so rewarding, and I love the role nurses have in our setting. Most of all I love the long term relationship (relatively long compared to perhaps other settings) that we have the privilege to build - with residents and their families. Everyday I have goosebumps when I am there, because of the connection I am making with residents and their families, by trying to do my best to be there for them. Good luck to you! Love to all our old folks!
  11. I think that is the way of the future.. I see many places hiring RPNs instead of RNs because its cheaper and can perform the same job. I have both an RN and RPN license and Im gonna hang on to my RPN license like its gold, because I think more and more in the future the RPN jobs will be more stable. I even see RNs getting laid off in some settings.
  12. any job thats at the bedside is physically draining
  13. I think you should follow your heart. Ive been an RPN for six years, and an RN for one year. Although there are many things I do not like about nursing, it is still the best decision I ever made. The options once you are a nurse are endless... and really it is such a rewarding career, I would not choose anything differently. Go for it.
