  1. While someone can teach things they don't know, or haven't done, how exactly are they able to answer the questions asked by students, or teach effectively? This is one of the biggest problems I see in health care education these days. And we wonder why we have students, and new practitioners, that have problems performing effectively in the patient care environment.
  2. Interesting article http://www.ems1.com/columnists/mike-mcevoy/articles/1308955-Can-oxygen-hurt/ Can oxygen hurt?Mike McEvoy Drug we use most often can cause harm if we give it without good reason
  3. Some more Liberal/Socialist "speak" from your hero,
  4. Let me help yopu MunoRN, the first is from Liberal/ Socialist hero Nancy Pelosi The next is from another Liberal/Socialist hero, John Conyers John Conyers on Reading the Healthcare Bill - YouTube This is the stuff that we are tired of and what I was referring to, along with a Liberal/Socialist "take over" of 1/6 of our economy.
  5. Really MunoRN? Oh, that's right, you have to PASS the bill, to find out what's IN the bill. Typical Liberal.
  6. Thank you BlueDevil for your Liberal/ Socialist view. Unlike you, many Americans do NOT want YOUR Liberal/ Socialist version of America. Plenty of places that meet YOUR needs outside of America, so please, feel free to go. So Thanks, but NO thanks.
  7. As a Paramedic of 29 years, and 28 of those working in a city that regularly ranks in the top 5 (many times top 2) of the most dangerous cities in the US, I can tell you that if I was "off the clock" I would have called 911 and reported where it was and what I saw. So no, I would NOT have stopped. The thought to pray was fine, but please call 911 FIRST, then pray.
  8. Good question and if you are really interested in learning more about the treatment of VF & pulseless VT, you'll find that there is NO evidence of any drug, improving survival to walking out of the hospital neurologically intact. Also, remember that any antiarrhythmic can also be proarrhythmic. Also note that while there is some evidence of short term increase of ROSC in VF/VT patients with Amiodarone, there was no increase in those patients walking out of the hospital neurologically intact. The only treatments known at this time, that improve ROSC and walking out of the hospital neurologically intact, are high quality, uninterrupted CPR and defibrillation.
  9. A little something for you to read and might find interesting....... 96-Minute CPR Marathon Saves Minnesota Man's Life - ABC News
  10. As a Paramedic, who HAS to carry mine with me, YES I do laminate them and yes, it is ok to do that. LOL
  11. I use the idea of traveling down a highway (for my area it would be I-95) and you come across road construction and the travel lanes get restricted from 2 or 3 lanes, to 1 lane. Thus the traffic backs up and slows the movement thru the area. And then when an MI occurs (complete blockage/ an MVA) the idea of how you would try to get off the highway and look for an "alternate" (collateral vessels) means of travel, via side roads, etc., to get around the closure of the highway. Very simple, but usually seems to work when trying to explain. Hope it helps
  12. Yes, we know TraumaSurfer, all Paramedics are worthless. Feel better now?
  13. Let there be NO mistake, taking and getting an ACLS &/or PALS card does NOT mean that you can intubate. Why anyone would think they can, is still beyond me. As an ACLS & PALS Instructor for well over 20 years, I will tell you that you are mistaken, if you think they mean that you can intubate. This is one, of many, reasons that the cards now are for course completion only.
  14. akulahawk has it correct, the CCEMTP course is a basic introduction to Critical Care Transport and it is open to RN's and RT's. I took my CCEMTP course in 2002 and enjoyed it. RWT NREMT-P, CCEMT-P, FP-C
  15. You can take ACLS as a nursing student, we have done several courses for nursing schools over the years (Medic students take it). PALS can also be taken by students (Medic students take it). I am not a Nurse, however I am a 28 year Paramedic and we take many of the same courses. I have BLS Instructor ACLS Instructor PALS Instructor PHTLS Instructor ABLS Instructor AMLS NRP CCEMT-P (Critical Care EMT-Paramedic) and FP-C (Flight Paramedic – Certified)
  16. I also have placed many IO's, these days it is made much easier using the EZ-IO. I should state that I am a Paramedic, and not a Nurse. I know that at the Hospitals that I work for, only Physicans & Paramedics can place IO's, however that is looking to be changed in the near future.
  17. And I know a handful of Paramedics that have done Excelsior.
  18. Your lack of respect for EMS (and Paramedics) has been shown in this and many other threads. And thanks for letting me know that YOU approve of what I think, I'll certainly sleep better now. Your words, "It is only through education that those in EMS will be on a more level playing field with all the other healthcare professions. Everyone of the others have known the struggles of their profession to gain recognition and respect as a profession. It is only EMS that still believes .just a uniform and another cool title is all it takes to be given respect and fee meals as part of their entitlement. " Please explain to me how anyone can NOT read your TOTAL lack of respect for anyone in EMS, not just some?
  19. Thank you for letting us know how all Paramedics are useless & ignorant TraumaSurfer and I am glad that YOU are here to save everyone from us. Yes, we do have problems in EMS, and YES we do have some people that we would probably be better without, HOWEVER that does not mean all of us are like that. While I get along with most Nurses I meet, I'd like to inform you that there are some Nurses that are as bad, if NOT worse. That happens in any profession. And as to the CCEMTP program, I know Nurses that enjoyed the program and learned things, but certainly it is "geared" as an introduction to Critical Care Transport, for those who have no or little Critical Care experience. I remained silent until this time BUT, I think KatieLuckey is correct, YOU have a "personal vendetta against EMS". RWT NREMT-P, CCEMT-P, FP-C
  20. I will say that it is a well made bag, HOWEVER it is heavier then most! If that's not a problem for you, go for it!
  21. May I ask whose job provides the benefits for your family? If YOUR job provides the benefits, then you YOUR job should be the priority. However, if you do not provide the benefits for your family, why is your husband the "bad guy" here, as so many have made him out to be?
  22. Actually, PERFECT practice makes perfect.
  23. As a 28 year Paramedic I'll offer you the same advice I offer Paramedic students and new Paramedics, #1 - In an emergency, FIRST, check your own pulse. #2 - YOU did NOT create the emergency (at least most of the time, LOL!).
  24. I will confirm that the FP-C test is VERY difficult. I took it after 10 years of experience as a CCEMT-P on a CCT and it was, no doubt, the most difficult test that I’ve ever taken as a Paramedic. CCEMTP is a wonderful introduction to critical care transport, if you have the opportunity to take it, I highly recommend it.The FP-C is for the experienced Critical Care Paramedic. RWT NREMT-P, CCEMT-P, FP-C
