Calling graduating class of 2014!
I am in my 7th week. It's going well as of now, but we've only had 1 exam, plus an ATI critical thinking test. I got an A on both, but we have test 2 this week and it covers so many chapters! I'm nervous! We are doing videos for skills check off and those are do 11/1. I was excited at first to not have to do them in front of an instructor, but now I'm wishing we could. Clinicals start the first week of Nov. Fun to see how everyones semester is going!

looking for comfortable nursing shoes within the guidelines for clinical...
Crocs Neria Work closed back nursing clogs. - Scrubs and Beyond I got these a few months ago and love them. I use them for school and work; the only thing I don't like is that they make my feet pretty hot, but it's worth it.

CNA license
As the poster above said, most states will let you become a nurse apprentice after your first semester of nursing school. However, if you are like me, and it takes you a few tries applying before you get in, it is a good way of learning and networking. I know my hospital will hire new grads who worked there as CNAs ahead of people who have not, and I would imagine quite a few hospitals do the same. Do keep in mind you might not be able to work in a doctors office as a CNA, plus the hours might be harder to go to school around if you could.

Calling graduating class of 2014!
I just started this week. It is a lot! Lots of reading, learning skills, and the teachers really expect you to have pre read everything you're covering. It is interesting though, and covering assessments really makes me feel like a nursing student! Haha.

Should I regret going ADN over BSN?
I'm going the ASN route because that is where I got in. I talked to my manager (I am a CNA in a hospital) and she said she would still hire ADN/ASN nurses if they worked for the hospital prior. Maybe you can look into working part time as a CNA/nurse apprentice to get your foot in the door to be hired after you graduate?

GPA just not good enough
I had to apply three years in a row, but I finally got in at an ASN program. Are you trying for BSN programs only, or ASN as well? In my area, we have less applicants for the ASN, so less competition. It will end being one semester longer than if I had gone through the BSN program, but still.

Things that gross you out..
I've been a CNA for awhile now and have gotten pretty used to things that used to gross me out. Except feet. I was helping a pt shower and he started picking at all of his sores and calluses on them and I had to look away. If they're reasonably taken care of, I'm fine, but when we get those patients who haven't even scrubbed them in the shower for who knows how long, I shudder.

Uniforms
We have to wear maroon Landau scrubs. Not too bad considering what we could have gotten stuck with. I would have picked a different color and brand (jealous of all the navy blue/black uniforms!) but really, it's not all that bad. We also had to get them embroidered with our school logo and student nurse.

Fall 2012 new nursing students roll call!!!
I received my acceptance letter to an ASN program in April (the week of my birthday- great present!). I have orientation next Thursday for two hours, and then classes start August 27. I only have nursing fundamentals and lab/clinical. I talked to someone currently in the program and we spend the first nine weeks during lab in a simulation lab, learning skills, then the last six weeks at a nursing home. I'm excited! And driving my husband crazy haha!

ISU vs BSU?
I work with graduates from both, and they both put out great nurses. If you already have a bachelor's degree, ISU does have an accelerated program. I have also heard (just from other hospital employees, not from either program) that BSU is a lot harder to get into, because they have more applicants. Are you planning on applying to both? That would be my advice. Good luck with which ever you choose!

Really jealous of everyone starting nursing school in the fall!
I know exactly how you feel right now. I was accepted into an ASN program (finally!) and start in the fall, but it was my third time applying. I have been working as a CNA for the past six years, and just kept telling myself the extra waiting would make me that much better as a nurse from all the experience. I know it's hard, but just think how much easier (not really the term I was looking for but you get the point) the hard work will be when you know how hard you worked for it, and how long it took. Not to say people who get accepted their first try do, but you will most likely not ever take it for granted.

Fall 2012 Jitters!
I'm nervous/excited too! My husband seems to think that because I am a CNA already, that it will be a breeze for the first semester :uhoh21:. It probably doesn't help that I work with someone who is midway through the same program and has warned how overwhelming it is. But I counting down the days until I get to start! Orientation is in 2 1/2 weeks!

What is your dream nursing career
I currently work as a CNA on a medical-oncology floor and love it. So either stay there or eventually move to ICU. Maybe go back to become a FNP, but that's a pretty big maybe!
