Surviving Nursing School and Marriage
I just started in August; my husband and I own a company we run from our home offices. I am now a FT nursing student and we have 3 kids, 3.5, 2.5, and 18 months. The only way around getting everything done, we hired an in home nanny. I still see the kids on weekends and I have dinner with them, all of us as a family, and play after dinner and put them to bed. I miss my family but i know this will be worth it when i graduate next year. My husband is very supportive, letting me sleep in on days I dont have school, and he makes lunch and dinner every day but saturdays (when i make a big family dinner). We keep everything great by having a date night 1x a week. good luck!

Know it alls....
i can understand SOME know it all s being annoying, but some of them actuaally get good grades and know a lot because they do study alot instead of gossip, or complain, or not take class as seriously as some do. some think nursing school is all about working in a hospital, talking to patients and taking BP....others know better. I dislike the ones that constantly interrupt the instructor..... there is a saying i heard somewhere and it always stuck.... "I'd rather be a smart ** than a dumb **". : )

Books!! Do you think it is necessary to study before Sept. Start??
do yourself a favor and check the college's website for the bookstore. they usually update it daily, and if you look there, sometimes the books are there earlier. Like I have PNE161 and Nur135 as two of my 4 classes.....and i just found them last night by looking. went to the college website, typed in bookstore in the search, and there wass a booklist for the entire school. just a tip, hope it helps!

Books!! Do you think it is necessary to study before Sept. Start??
one study tip i learned is to read the first two chapters before the semester starts. I ordered my books today, I start the 20th of Aug. so i plan to have them arrive in 3 days (expedited shipping) and read the first two chapters of all 4 books, to be prepared and have a leg up, you know? good luck!

"No nurses of color....."
ditto to that....i hope it does not say something bad about me, but if i am getting care, I would like to be able to understand and communicate with my caregivers.

"No nurses of color....."
i am a 30 something white nursing student in the south, which is probably 75% AA. I Grew up in New England. Race does not bother me, I have a brain, and morals. I will not put up with anyone calling me a stupid white (you know what).....just as much as I would not tolerate anyone calling someone a stupid black (you know what) either. Now if they say I dont want a (race) person taking care of me, i would ask why. there could be a reason. maybe raped by someone of the opposite race. but if it turns out they are just being a bigot, They would be told to deal with it, they will get the best care with us, with it or go find another hospital/nursing home, etc. because I don't put up with bigotry/racisim from ANY race. I dont care what happened in the past....wars, slavery, whatever....it's 2012. and ALL races need to chill, and get over it, put on your grown up panties and move on! heck i just told my 85 yr old AA neighbor to get a grip or stay the he** out of my yard, because our property line actually goes about 20 feet into what she thought was her yard....so when we had our fence and larger driveway put up to accomodate our 3 car garage, oh she came out and called us everything but white people.......and i don't care if this is a predominantly AA area....."I" pay taxes on my property....i will do as i please with MY property....and if she dont like it, tough (you know what).....but dont you dare call out racial slurs to ME.....i may be white, and her relatives may have gone through some heinour crap in the past, but its not my problem, dont you DARE take it out on me. especially since these people come eat our food and "borrow" money, ask my husband to fix things in their house....and then talk to me like that? NUH-UH! lol. oh, she apologized a day later. lol. i dont invite her to my home anymore now, though. I wont let her speak to me like that in front of my kids. sorry, rant over/. lol

Why many new grads don't find jobs....
I havent graduated yet, but I can think of a few reasons....mainly the nurse who may have been there a while complains alot, is lazy, and has a bad attitude. I worked as a store manager in retail for years....and i would absolutely hire someone just out of college with a can do attitude over a ****** nurse who thinks she deserves the world.
