Where do I find this course?

I have been a nurse since 2005 and I worked 9 years in one LTC facility. I started out as a CNA their also. Some days you will wanna just run out and quit, but don't. These people need you. Yes they can be confused, mean, crazy or sleep all the time but you have to remember these elderly used to be just like us. They had a family and job and they are "real" people just like us. Even though they may not know their name or where they are they need to be treated with respect. LTC is very rewarding and challenging at the same time. If you can work in LTC, you can work anywhere! I am currently working on my RN degree and I plan on staying in the long term care setting. I have learned soo much from working with the elderly. They are fun loving people and they have some of the coolest stories I have ever heard. Hang in there, it will be worth it!

I can't pass the English comp exam for the life of me. I have failed it twice and I don't want to do the exam again. Is this 6 credit class offered online also?

It gets better! Trust me, I've been an LPN in LTC for 10 years. You will soon have a routine and you will actually have time to do other stuff in between med passes. It is very overwhelming at first, hang in there!

I know how you feel. I graduated with a 4.0 with my LPN and now I am barely at a 2.0 through excelsior. If you want to risk retaking the exams to see if you do better that would be the only way besides taking other course. If I would have know how this program was before I got involved I would have gone the traditional route. I take my Cpne for the first time in less than 2 weeks so I am just expecting another heartbreak fail, but I've have gone to long to just give up.

what did you use to study? I ordered a study book off ebay that is suppose to have everything in it to pass the exam. So we will see!

So has anyone taken the 3 credit UExel college writing exam? Please, any info would be helpful for me. Also anyone take the Ethics in America DANTES exam? Opinions and thoughts welcome!

So I just failed English Comp for the second time and I think I will be on Academic probation now. I don't understand, I got straight A's in LPN school and now I am struggling to get a 2.0 in this college. They say to go this route when you need to work, raise a family etc, well then they need to revise their program so it isn't so hard to pass these tests. I have always been good in school, always did good on exams, but these are totally different. I wish they would at least tell you which ones you got wrong. How can you better yourself when you have no clue what you did right or wrong. Is there anyone else out there that feels this way? I just feel like I might have just wasted 4 years of my life and thousands of dollars on something that I probably won't succeed in.

The best advice that I can give, is to learn to say NO. So many managers take advantage of new nurses and push them over the limit with hours worked. I have seen it time and time again. After I told these new nurses that they have to learn to say no, when asked to work more hours, doubles, ect. they said that they felt great after sticking up for themselves. It doesn't take long to get burned out on nursing. When you get to that point, you make more mistakes and your mood may start changing.

I have been a nurse since 2005, but unfortunately when I was in school, when it came time to do clinicals, it seemed like most of the "old school nurses" that I had training me, acted like I was wasting their time. I got more eye rolling than I cared to see. I was scared to ask questions because I didn't want to "bother" the nurse. It seems like these days you get more and more of those type of nurses. I am a great nurse, so I've been told by many patients, families and coworkers. All I can say is, if you don't like your job, get out of the profession before you ruin someone elses thought about being a nurse. To be a great nurse you need to be patient, caring, and WANT to help people.

Thank you so much for the info! My nerves tend to overrule me sometimes so I need to just remember to focus. I am going to do the online workshop. I won't be able to go to an actual workshop so the online will have to do. I just want to get done with this. I have been doing it since july 2009. I am sooo ready to be an RN!

Well with a very shaky hand, I submitted my CPNE application! I am hoping to test around June in Madison. Not sure where to start, but I will figure it out. Have most of the supplies to set up my labs. Any comments/concerns about I think it's Sherry's online workshop? Does it help dramatically for the actual CPNE? Thanks and good luck to everyone!

I have done this several times. It is a totally awesome feeling to see those residents eyes light up over an egg sandwich, cheesburger, chocolate cake ect.

I work for Mayo Clinic Health System in Wisconsin $17.05 base rate plus $3.00 shift differential for 2nd shift and $4.00 more for nights Long term care. Been there almost 9 years. Full benefits.

I've been doing the program since 2009. I had to do ALL the gen eds plus all the nurses classes. A total of like 16 classes. I have failed 3 exams but passed 2 of them the 2nd try. I have to retake my English yet and do my Cpne then I will be done except for boards. In the last 3 years i have had 3 surgeries and my husband has had 2 surgeries and my son got injured also, so yes even with hectic lives it can be done. I realize i have the biggest hurdle left with the CPNE but I will get through that too. I made the mistake of signing on with the college network a publishing company. Yes i mainly used their materials to pass the exams, but you can get them ALOT cheaper off ebay, ect. so i would not recommend signing a contract with them. so i just spent $40 in ink about a month ago to print the 18th edition study guide that they sent me. Is this edition no good now? I'm already half way through reading it also. I'm planning on testing in about 4 months. do i need to get the new study guide now?

I am a nurse in LTC and you have every right to feel how you feel. I would be upset too. There is no reason for how you or your family member were treated. We are here to serve the resident and their family. I live by the motto: treat others how you want to be treated. I would go above the DON's head with your concerns. If the facility has an ombudsman (spelling?), contact them also. Good luck and take care. I hope it turns out better for you and your family member.

Motivation is the hardest part. Basing your whole grade on one test score is also intimidating, but it can be done. I've been working on my RN degree for 3 years, one class at a time, I had like 17 classes to do, and I am now down to 2 classes. It can be done!

I would find a used version of the recommended text. I got one for about $25. It was like 1100 pages and I read it front to back. It was nice because it had alot of pictures to help visualize things better. I passed 1st try with a C, but I had alot of personal issues going on at the same time that I was studying for this exam. I am almost done with the Excelsior RN program. Been doing it since aug 2009. I work full time and have a family. I did the college network thing, but would highly recommend not signing on with them, because you can find the modules on ebay for usually less than $100 a piece, and they charge $500 a piece once you sign their contract. The modules are helpful, but for some exams you need more resources. Any more questions, feel free to ask. Good luck with your journey.
