OMG - " That's: meet celebrities" That's what happends when you post at 4am. LOL!

Flight attendant, than corporate cabin attendant for many, many years. Got my single engine private pilot license and got out of aviation all together to be a nurse. I had a chance to meat lot of celebrities who chartered a plane and have been around the world couple of times. This exposure to a high level executives and public in general has helped me tremendously in many ways in nursing. In stresful situations I don't get to excited, I deal with them in a calm matter, when you're with your feet on the ground there is a resonable solution to everything. It's funny how I can look at the "difficult" patient and not see the difficulty that other nurses see, I can say " I've been there, I've seen that". I loved flying and I love nursing. Livning a dream!:cheers:

I did not celebrate passing NCLEX, the way I celebrated the end of my nursing school. I was proud to get my $7 pinn, and it's the most prized item in my jewlery box,lol! Shame, for depriving NG's this beautiful, old nursing tradition.

Prioritize! First thing first - job that pays your student loan faster is the job for you (my opinion). Everything after that will fall in to place. Congratulations!:)

Great thread! How about this! A patient is hooked up to a machine that monitors his condition. When his lab values are critical, his condition deteriorates and warrants a call at 2 am to a MD about further orders , an automated "nurse" comes on and reads data to him. MD can not give her an attitude because it's a machine reading and instead he has to listen and pay attention. MD gives orders to the machine, the computer processess the orders, the nurse gets them, signs off and off she goes to save the patient. I don't know - it's good to dream sometimes.

Relax! You will make mistakes no matter how many destress books you'll read. Things you may try, other than buying and reading books is walking, excercice, go to a Zumba class, just get moving. I went to a Zumba class after a crapy day at work, tried to do the salsa thing and that made me laugh and relaxed. That evening with a cleared mind and with out panic, I thought about what to do next to avoid the mistakes. Physical acivity helps to clear your mind and makes you feel in control. It would be great if nurses did not make any mistakes on the job! but it's not realistic. Wishing you the best on the job and as few mistakes as possible. Hugs!

I am a nurse who loves nursing! As you will soon see for your self, most posts are vents about things other than nursing, that we as nurses have to do ( nurse/patient ratio, spiteful coworkers, management, copious paper work, hours of charting, doc's .... ). I love helping patients when they need me the most, I wish I had more time with the patient but reality is quite different. So for the few moments that I have with the patient I am grateful, and I say I LOVE nursing! Wishing you the best on your new endavor!

Well said! Most times stdents have no idea what they're talking about ( sorry NS, speaking from experience). I do home visits from time to time for pedi patients, and each time I think about them for days to come. I have learned to love the geriatric population, I love their stories, their difficult personalities, their complains and their " Thank you's". After work I go home and laugh to my self about what they say to me, sometimes I thank Lord for letting me be the one, to take care of them in their final moments.
