  1. Floated to Tele, no experience...

First thing is know the basic rhythms. Learn what is normal (Sinus rhythm) and what is dangerous (VT, VF, etc). I agree with the above and take an ACLS class for those. 2nd thing is ALWAYS check your patient first. If the monitor tech calls you with ...
  2. Pt sent to cath lab for NSTEMI

Doctors preference and it also depends on the hospital too. For active chest pain we will use a Nitro gtt if not controlled by other means. Also, Heparin gtt is common too especially with suspected MI's.
  3. What's the longest er wait time you have Even seen

I have never waited more than 15 minutes to be seen.... but I have breathing issues and when I go to ER it's appropriate. When I worked in ER in England though, we were the only level 1 trauma hospital for miles. One shift, we had ambulances parked ...

  5. Becoming a WOC Nurse: Online Course???

I have also seen this. My dream is to become WOC. I am taking a basic online course for the basics but it will not give me the certification, only the basics with 2 workshop days. I am a RN hoping to get my BSN soon.. if anyone knows of a good course...
  6. Burnout within 1st year possible?

I am also in a RN job that is not what I wanted and I generally do not enjoy. BUT.... everyday I say to myself "At least I have a nursing Job". We will all eventually get our dream job (Wound care for me but currently in cardiology clinic) but it can...
  7. Washington State test limit?

Does anyone know if there is a limit to the amount of times you can take the NCLEX-RN in Washington state? I have taken and failed two times, awaiting results from third time but I think I failed that too . DOH doesn't say on the website nor will the...
  8. A fib in the 40's??

I work with an Electrophysiologist and we see afib at a wide range of speeds from over 200 (Yikes!) to as low as 40's (I think 44 was the slowest I have seen). As long as they are asymptomatic then you dont want to mess around with trying to convert ...
  9. Very High Fevers

I had a fever lasting a week with temp spiking to 102/103. Just felt really hot and my body ached. No other symptoms. All blood work negative. Strange.
  10. Need Advice on Metoprolol

PO metoprolol working in 20 minutes? Possible depending on a few things including if the patient had an empty stomach, if they were on anything else that might increase the absorbtion rate or effect of the drug. Why were they on lasix? No edema or CH...
  11. How do you deal after a code?

My first ever code was as a 3rd year nursing student on a cardiac ward and it was horrific. The patient had bad osophageal varices and they all ruptured at once. I was first on the scene and immediately started CPR while screaming for help. The patie...
  12. Took NCLEX-RN today for 4th time!

I took the NCLEX today for the 4th time, it shut off after 75 questions and 2 hours. I tried to look on pearson but there site appears to be down. This is the first time I have had such a short exam... first time was 191 questions, 2nd time was 206 q...
  13. Mistakes we have made

This was not my mistake but it just goes to show never fully trust a brand new doctor....... While working as a nursing student in the UK, I had a patient who developed an UTI. When asked if she was allergic to any medications, she said "there was th...
  14. Took NCLEX-RN today for 4th time!

I mainly used Kaplan to study as I was having trouble with understanding HOW to take the NCLEX. My nursing knowledge was fine, but Kaplan showed me how the NCLEX views certain issues which maybe viewed differently in real life.
  15. Took NCLEX-RN today for 4th time!

It's Official. I passed! Saw my name on DOH website with ACTIVE enxt to my license! Now time to celebrate!
  16. Took NCLEX-RN today for 4th time!

Yes Kaplan is definatly worth every cent. I just wish I had done it sooner. SATA are "Select all that Apply", Put in order is putting the steps of a nursing procedure in order (giving eye drops for example). "Which patient first" is generall external...
  17. Took NCLEX-RN today for 4th time!

My kaplan scores all were not impressive because I was tired for 90% of them due to doing them after work. Highest was 65% lowest was 49%
  18. Took NCLEX-RN today for 4th time!

I just got the good pop up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's taking me almoste 6 years from the time I started nursing school in the UK to this moment. THANK YOU KAPLAN!!!!!
  19. Australian nurses taking NCLEX exam

I have the same problem. I am a UK nurse trying to pass. USA policies, priorities and even drugs are completly different! I too am using Kaplan and I am finding the decision tree a big help but I still struggle with some priority based questions! GOO...
  20. NClex X 2

I have failed it 3x. So I am now taking the KAPLAN course. You sound like you have the same problem I do... you know nursing content but you dont know how to take the NCLEX. This is why i finally bit the bullett and paid the $500 for the kaplan cours...
  21. Took the Nclex this morning...

CONGRATULATIONS! You did the exact same study plan i am now doing! I am excited now as it seems that I might pass! Congratulations again and again!:yelclap:
  22. What is the answer for this?

C = Passing the buck according to Kaplan so C is out.... I say A and B. Coughing and Deep breathing will not help the BP go up. Nitro is well known for making the BP drop. When we administer it we should be watching the BP closely anyway. :)
  23. If you have not tried it already, please try Kaplan. I know it's expensive but you get given the Decision tree which is PRICELESS. You are an inspiration that you KEEP GOING and KEEP trying. The tree and Kaplan will teach you HOW to take the test and...
  24. Just booked my 4th attempt at NCLEX-RN. Decided to finally pay the $500 to do the Kaplan Live online classroom course. For those of you thinking about Kaplan.... I LOVE the decision tree.... I did a diagnostic test before I learnt about the tree... g...
  25. What would the nurse be most concerned about?

When it says "Most Concerned" you look for something NOT EXPECTED. So if Tachycardia is a sign of fluid overload.... perhapes we should be looking for signs that are not. I would panic if a client was having symptoms that was completely un associated...
