Any tips for UNE organic chem final?
I took both organic I and II from UNE just last year (finished II in November). Within 2 weeks of taking the organic I final, they changed the whole test because one of my fellow "classmates" kept talking about exchanging quiz answers to compile a database of questions- DO NOT GET suckered into this! The final, for me at least, was nothing like most of the quiz questions were, definitely not identical enough to count on them to help you pass. I ended up with a C in the course, and honestly, was happy with it~ if you do have to take organic II, it was a different instructor and I scored an A-. Good luck and FYI- I am starting a CRNA program in 4 weeks, so a C shouldn't keep you out. Take care!

Do RN's insert EJ's at your hospital
I have on occasion, mostly due to my prehospital experience, and most times the other nurses looked at me like I was crazy. In small hospitals without someone available for emergent central ir PICC line insetion, it is invaluable, usually easy and quick. A regular 16 or 14 gauge needle works well.

Landed My Dream Job "SICU"
Congrats! Best advice I can give you is to NEVER let anyone intimidate you, and NEVER be ashamed to say 'I don't know' or ask for help. Don't let pride get in the way of learning, yours or your fellow nurses. Absorb it all and ask a ton of questuions, and you will go far!

Is taking anatomy over the summer a very bad idea?
If you are strong in your sciences, it is doable, just very time consuming. It will help to have it finished before going into the core classes. Good luck!

IV start help!
Once you get a flash, are you advancing the needle a little farther before sliding the sheath off? You may have the needle in the vein but the catheter may still be within the vessel wall, causing an infiltrate. Give that a shot. Good luck!

Oh crap...I can't believe I forgot...
If the patient was ready for discharge, they should have been therapeutic in the Coumadin or switched to an injectable. It is an error, but certainly not the worst you could make, and I bet you'll never forget again. Don't beat yourself up too bad.

Does a CNA have to wipe butts?
Yes, yes, yes, and yes again. And that is just the first hour of your shift....

working as GN vs. waiting to your RN license
I waited, and had no trouble finding a job. I think as long as you take your boards in a timely fashion, you should be fine. Good luck!

Since when were patients referred to a GUESTS??
I feel your pain. A few years ago, our hospital opened a new wing (which I work on), and it initially was 'the 24 hoir visitation, all your family is welcome' ICU. I don't have to tell you what a mess that was! I don't know if it's fan attempt to attract business or what, but your're right, it sends the wrong message. We're here to heal, not heel!

Precepting New Nurses
I agree with bostonterrierloverrn, give her the chance to see the flow of your day, then start integrating her into the mix. It's funny how much of your job you take for granted that you know, and this will keep her from being intimidated and give her a chance to figure out what she doesn't know. Good luck!

Youngster
I think it really depends on the school- I have a well rounded resume with 12 years experience and a biology degree but didn't get accepted to one of the schools I applied to and honestly believe it's because I had 'too much' experience. Some schools like newer nurses, so I would look for those and apply. Good luck!

Help me finding online chemistry class
I took the online course through University of New England and it was brutal- I barely made it through Ochem I. The Ochem II wasn't bad; diffferent instructor, more relevent to our field. I wouldn't recommend it iunless you need both, because the Ochem I is taught (I use that term loosely...) way over your head unless you are a chem genius. Good luck! Oh, and there is a lab component- it was easy.
