  1. I am in the same predicament, i will be starting to take my first prereqs this fall. and the cost at our CC is around $46/unit. ive been saving for almost a year already but that money goes to my nursing program, ill be working at the same time to help pay for my prereqs classes until i get into a nursing program and quit my job(ill be using my savings to pay for these and some loans). i still live with my mother so my living expense is 70% covered. i dont have to worry about rent and other stuffs, i just have to worry about myself my classes and how am i going to pay for all of em. I hope you could find a way to make things fit on your own style. GOOD LUCK! :)
  2. hi everybody, i'm about to start my taking my pre-reqs this fall 2012 and i've been goofing around for the last 4 years. so i don't know if i'm gonna do well in class this is the first time that i will be attending college. these past few days i'm concerned that i might get left behind in class, cause honestly i barely remember stuffs i used know way back. i wanted to browse some of my previous book and lectures but unfortunately i don't have them anymore. i already planned what i need to do for the next 4 -5 years to get my adn/bsn all i need is proper execution of that plan. what i mean about proper execution is i need to get a's in every single one of my pre reqs a's not b's (sorry im just being optimistic and i badly need it for the point system in our cc). so what i'm asking is that do you have any tips and advice on what should i do to get ready to harvest all of those a's?? i would really appreciate it if you do. :) btw here are the list of classes that i would probably be taking this fall2012(i haven't registered yet,) *biology101 *math020c ( i think this is elementary math lol) *esl185 ( english as secondary language * since im not originally from the us but have my legal documents) *mus101c ( i think i dont have to worry about this one) thank you very much in advance and i know someone will help me cause this is an awesome si[color=#00ff00]te with awesome people in it.:))
  3. plan ABSN!! since you have your first degree might as well grab the opportunity for an accelerated program.
  4. doesn't matter as long as i love what i do, i will work whatever time they want me to :)
  5. you could volunteer to any local community hospital near you or try shadowing a physician or nurse. but if you want to get paid get a CNA certificate.
  6. get a CNA certificate, work as a CNA while getting some Gen Ed, classes and if you feel like you have the heart and the passion to help and serve people in medical kind of way, then try taking some prereqs for you to get into a nursing program, like Anatomy&Physiology, MicroBio, Chem, etc.. you could also try volunteering into a local hospital near you try physician or nurse shadowing , ask your Counselor or school if they could set you up with one, or go to the hospital and ask. you just have to make sure that you are gonna LOVE what you are doing not Like what you are doing for the benefits that you will receive whatever decision you will take as long as your happy, i think you will be good. well GOOD LUCK! :)
  7. why not try applying to different schools, i bet there are tons of school near you.if you really like nursing try different schools, best thing is to apply to like 8-12 different schools to raise your chances on getting accepted.
  8. since you dont have any college college experience what i could advice you is start getting your prerequisites a a local community college near you, that would be more inexpensive than jumping to a profit 4 year school (60k is not that expensive if you are here in SoCal), in a CC you could finish all your pre-reqs in 2 years or so, then try applying to their ADN program(2years) or if you want transfer to a state university or college and apply for their BSN program(3 years). i would say to stay away on those private-profit-schools if you dont want to have huge debt, but if money is not a big deal, you could go for it and it might save you at least 1 year of college. and i dont understand why your CC is telling you to go throungh CNA-LVN-RN, cause for me that could just waste your time and money. but if you are undecided changing to a Nursing Career, this path may help you to choose if you have the heart and passion to be a nurse, otherwise if you have already decided that you want to be a Nurse, why not go straight to a Nursing program. anyways Good luck to you and your future decision!
  9. CONGRATULATIONS to you!! :) but 2016?? seriously?? im gonna die waiting for that long.. well anyways have you tried applying to different CC near your area that has no waitlist?? cause 4 years seems to long.
  10. dont thank me thank Gizelle22 she help me find this :)
  11. Cypress College ADN program, is based on 75% on the rank order list and 25% for the chronological wait list, as far as i know for the rank order list you have to have 29-30 points to be competitive, you could check here for more info you could check this selection criteria for cypress http://www.cypresscollege.edu/ad/uploads/33/F11rnselectioncriteria.pdf, hope this helps and good luck! :)
  12. well as for me i would say go for it, if you have the heart and the passion to love what you are doing as a nurse you're not gonna regret taking the risk for a career change. as far as building a family well i don't have any idea but good for you, so Good Luck with your decisions and best wishes.
  13. SWEET!! thanks maybe i should not worry anyways. btw i have my hair a 5 inches below my shoulder blade.
  14. i say go for it, not all CNA are given an opportunity to work in the ICU dept.
  15. im no expert on landing a job, cause i just landed my current job with pure luck and network LOL but one thing is for sure why pay for your own background check?? i think that is 100% scam right through the neck!!
  16. Hi I'm a male still taking my prerequisites for nursing school but my question is, are you allowed to grow your hair long in a nursing school/program?? cause I've been growing my hair for 3 years now, i would want to keep it but i just want to know is it prohibited while taking the nursing program is their any required haircuts like above neck-collar for male nurse, no long side burns and beards and goatee??
  17. if i have a tattoo i'll keep it no matter what!
  18. what i do is i handwritten every important detail on the lenghtwise fold yellow paper and i fill it up and you may try color coding as well, like set up a legend where red is the most important and yellow for this, pink for that see what i mean?? like for example on a test im just thinking of what color it may be, so i could remember more easier and handwriting it so i could know if i wrote it correctly. it may or may not work for you but it certainly worked for me, well so BEST WISHES to you! :)
  19. well if you only have to support yourself and dont have kids, i think you can definitely do it, cause for me i will be taking 3-4 classes and planning on working 55-65 hrs a week, well you just have to have some sacrifices like SOCIAL LIFE!! cause what im planning to do is to save money while im working on my prereqs so by the time i enter nursing school ill be quitting my job and try to focus studying, so most likely the money i have saved will be used for my living expense or if theres extra i could pay for some credit so i dont have to owe much, makes sense?? btw its easy for me cause im only working at home cause im an insurance billing/coder, so it may work for me and not for others. so good luck in your future endeavors! :)
  20. well first off i know the feeling of having you told your parents what to do and what not to do with your life, i dont know in your case but some parents tend not to listen to what their child wants to do. cause they throw you all of this b***s**t that "im paying for your college now do what i tell you!" well you really cant convince a parent that is as hard as a rock or maybe after 10 years they'll give up on you, im not saying that your parents are like this but anyways what i know is if you could work as a CNA you could have lots of networks to hospitals that are offering tuition reimbursement in exchange for you working for them in a span of time. and being a CNA lets you experience working with a nurse or a physician, then you could decide if whether or not your fit to be a nurse. btw im sorry if the grammar, punctuating spacing paragraphs are wrong, im just to LAZY to notice them :) well good luck to you and best wishes!! :)
  21. if i could afford one i'd buy one i heard there are tons of uses for iPads not just for studying or medical purpose but also for everyday living.
  22. if i were in your shoes i prolly wait than spend more bucks, cause i think ill end up being a nurse anyway then why should i pay more its just 11months away. well thats how i see it cause money is VERY TIGHT for me LOL :)
  23. earn enough money to drown everybody *maybe at least a town* in booze in my homeland!!
  24. FOUND IT!! thank you again Gizelle22 you are a life saver!! and btw how well did you score on your TEAS?? does it matter?? i mean will it matter if you are on the 90th percentile or the 80th??
  25. oh really?! thats amazing Congratulations!! well you deserve everything you worked for. im glad to hear that 0 wait is possible. well for me i just have to work for all the A's so i could possibly and hopefully follow your path, btw do you also need A's in the other pre-reqs such as sociology, psyc, math and english?? and i dont speak spanish but im bi-lingual cause im asian LOL and as far as working as a caregiver well i havent experienced that yet is it really necessary?? and mind if you could share a link so i could see the points or pre-reqs i need as well?? im sorry i have a lot of question i just want everything to be perfect :) and THANK YOU very much for everything :)
