  1. We could write in the booklet, were encouraged to. No calculators allowed, or scrap paper. I got my scores..they are "ok" I am slightly above the minimum required by my school, so I am not out totally, but if a lot of people did better than me... I am realizing now I may have to wait a year and thats ok. Just stinks.
  2. I took the TEAS V yesterday, was paper based. I registered so late, it was hard to find study materials, so I really have no one to blame but myself... I am 100% positive I NAILED the reading and English portions. I have a BA in English and have just always done well on those kinds of tests. If I got anything less than 80% on either of those portions..I would be VERY surprised. The math and the sciense, however, I was totally unprepared for. I have been out of high school for over 15 years, and during my college experience, for my major, I only needed 2 basic science classes and one basic math. So Algebra...really threw me for a loop. The science also, omg. I was trying to remember everything I knew about cell structure and ph balances, and circulatory systems, etc. The school I am applying to (LPN) doesn't take an overall composite score, but rather individual percentages in each part. English and reading needs 69% to pass, math 59% and Science 41%..or something like that.. Scores come out later today and I am freaking out. I just want to know one way or another! Uggh. Sigh.
  3. There are 3 other schools I didnt apply to because they all were about an hour drive each way. I am not willing to do that right now, with gas prices as they are, seeing as I would have to also cut my work hours way back.
  4. That is frustrating. I start to feel bitter about how easy it is for kids right of high school to get right into a 4 year nursing program, but I already have a BA degree and have to deal with getting pre-reqs done if I want to transfer my gen curriculum classes. I almost feel like I would be better off starting as a freshman again! Good luck, please dont give up. I wish I knew why you are wait listed.
  5. Got my rejection letter yesterday from Umass Dartmouth. I knew it was going to happen. I was 90%sure I wouldn't get in, but I guess I was still holding on to that 10% hope. I applied way too late and my GPA is decent but not what I would call "competitive" Still sad though, to read the words "your academic profile is not to the standards of the accepted 2012 class" POO! I applied to another 4 year program, as well as the LPN program at DIman Voc in Fall river, and I still have back up plans to get my GPA in order and more pre-reqs done. I am not giving up! Just sad.
  6. I applied for the LPN because I figured why not. I have a Bachelor's degree already, but in English and now I decided to go for nursing. I applied at Umass Dartmouth and Rhode Island College...RIC said it has some pre-reqs. but Umass doesn't, unless I went for the accelerated program, which I am not. I doubt either of those schools will accept me, so I applied for the LPN as well, and for OTA at BCC. I applied for the LPN because I have a few friends who are LPNs and they said I should do that, work in a LTC for a year and then go do the bridge program because then at least I can be working and if for some reason I fail a class...I am still working, know what I mean? Im not super excited about it, but its an option. If I get into the OTA program, I have to take A&P during it anyway, so I figure I can apply for nursing next year.. My last option, if I cant get in ANYWHERE for this year, is to take teh CNA course at BCC..get a job as a CNA and take my pre-reqs on the side so I can be ready for next year. I just want to get started. My biggest problem when I was going for teaching originally, is that I didnt give myself time to volunteer, or take a low paying job as an aide, or anything. I had NO connections to any school or school system. And it really is who you know in teaching... I have a feeling a lot can be true for Nursing. I need to get my feet wet and maybe being a CNA will help, or at least it may help me decide whether its what I want to do or not.. Lots to think about.
  7. Yeah, it was ****. He was very informative. Like I said, I knew I had zero chance of getting into the Nursing program, so I was there for the OTA which I actually think I have a good shot of getting into. I plan on doing that and if I like it, great, if not, by then I will have my pre-reqs and I can apply for the ADN program next year, or somewhere else. Its my plan C, I have also applied to other nursing programs, including the LPN program at Diman Voc, so we'll see. I did feel bad though. I would say at least HALF of the ladies there thought they would get into the nursing program this year and most of them left very dissapointed. Many of them were high school students, some were people who were taking A&P THIS semester, and **** felt bad bursting their bubble by saying i a completed application was not in by Feb 1, then chances of getting in were next to zero. I felt very bad. He showed the numbers of applicants vs. the number of spots. There was like, 750 or so applicants last year for 72 spots. Which seems daunting, but then he said more than HALF of those applicants were not qualified..and it ended up being around 200-250 QUALIIED applicants for 72 or so spots. So thats a little bit better at least. Good luck to all of you. I cant wait to hear all your news!
  8. I have absolutely no worries about the reading/writing portions. I am an English major. No worries. Science and Math, however, I am worried. Only because I have been out of high school for over 15 years and the only math or science courses I was required to take during my undergraduate work was basic/intro type stuff. So yes, I am nervous because even basic equations are no longer "fresh" in my mind. But apparently, since it's anyone's guess as to what is going to be on the darn test, buying a manual for 60-80 bucks may not even help me at all.
  9. I went to the Infor session last night. I did not apply for this coming fall because of my lack of pre-reqs, but I did apply to the OTA program which I hope to get into for now and see what happens. (its actually my plan C if no other schools want me, lol) But anyway, they said they were hoping to get all acceptance/rejection letters for the nursing program out by the MIDDLE of March this year because they were able to do so last year. Only a week or two difference, but hope that calms your heart a little..lol
  10. You are not alone!! You CAN do this! I am 35, married with 3 kids and work full time. I went back to school in 2006 and graduated in 2010 with my BA in English. I went to school full time, worked full time and had the kids and a marriage. it was SO HARD!!!! but I did it, and I did it well. My kids aren't babies though, so it was easy enough to tell them what I had to do. and they are old enough to keep themselves occupied. I also stayed up until 1-2am most nights to get housework and homework done. I was going to be a teacher but I had always wanted to go into nursing, so I am going that way now. I have a supportive husband. His only concerns is that I FINISH school and give it t try before I decide I dont like it. This time around, I will decrease my work hours though. Because nursing school requires more attention to detail than my other degree required.
  11. omg I am going through the same emotions right now! One minute I think, how can I NOT get it? and the next I am thinking this is ridiculous that I am even trying!!!
  12. Hey there, I am also in MA with a non-nursing degree (BA/English). I wanted to go for nursing in the first place, but I foolishly let people talk me out of it. I had people telling me that jobs are hard to find, or that Nursing is too hard, too gross, too sad, too this, too that. But I really wanted to do it. it is in my nature to take care of people. And All the jobs I have had, including my current one, I feel like I just don't matter. The work I do..is pointless. I work in retail and I think..what am I doing? I have no impact on anyone, I have no personal satisfaction in what I am doing because I really feel the need to help people. I feel like that is such a cliche saying now, but its just true. So, I have my BA and I was going to be a teacher, but I just dont feel it. I dont feel like its enough. I went for it because I thought I would like the schedule. That is simply not a good reason to become a teacher. When it comes to teaching, or nursing, or anything that really has an affect on people, I feel like you should WANT to do it for more than the money, or the schedule, or job security. I work a set schedule right now and I actually hate it, so monotonous, mon-fri, 9-5. I feel like a hamster on a wheel. I applied to Umass Dartmouth and Rhode Island College for nursing. I also applied for the ADN program at the CC near me, and even an LPN program. I have a lot of friends who are nurses, some LPNs, some RNs, my aunt is an Anesthesia nurse, and they all told me the same thing, that if I cant get into the 4yr school or the CC, then go for my LPN, do that for a year and then take a bridge to RN program because at least I will be licensed to work...and I can work while going for my RN..and if I somehow fail a year..I can at least still work and I wont be wasting time. So thats my plan.
  13. I know quite a few nurses...and some of them I always felt are not that bright. So it makes me think..if THEY can pass a Nursing program and actually get jobs as nurses..then surely I can too! I have already been through a full college experience while raising little kids, work and school full time and more than once, hell more than a hundred times, I found myself sobbing because I didn't think I could do it. Sometimes I felt so stupid, too stupid to be in college, that I would never succeed in life. But I made it, and I made it with really decent grades. You can do it. I promise you, you really can.
  14. I just finished applying. Now I have to just sit and wait. The "official" deadlines for all the places I applied to was between March31-Apr15th or so, but the reccomended deadlines were all Jan31-feb1st. I didn't really decide to GO FOR IT!! until Feb 4th. So it was a mad rush to get everything in. All my applications, fees, essays and letters of reccomendations are in...but my transcripts from my former college..are not. GRR!! I called today and they said they mailed them out yesterday. SO I am just praying I am not too late. I can understand if I am just not as qualified as some other applicants, but I really hope I will even be considered. I applied to (2) 4 yr College/Universities, One Community College for an ADN program and even a 10 mos LPN program. I wanted as many options as possible. I know I have ZERO chance at the CC ADN program because there was the A&P pre-req, which I dont have. I have a decent chance at the 4yr schools because each of them did NOT have pre-reqs, except for their accelerated programs, which I did not apply for even though I have a BA degree already, because of the Pre-req. And I feel I have a pretty good chance of getting into the LPN program. If I dont get into any, then I will cry and cry. but then pick myself up, and take something else at the CC, in addition to the pre-reqs, and try again next year. :)
  15. I am not doing a very good job at getting my point across. I am saying that I want to be a nurse. And for the first time in my life, I am not going to let other people sway me from what I want to do. I am agreeing that the "no jobs" thing is not a good enough reason to keep me from doing it. Because its like that everywhere, for every profession. I don't want to be a teacher, regardless of how it is to find a job. I want to be a nurse, regardless of how hard it is to find a job.
