I was hit by a truck that was going 75mph when he crossed a double yellow line. This was in 1999. I have had several cervical plexus blocks, these work short time and are debilitating for a while. I have done well trying to live through the pain, however when it gets out of control, it is really hard to be nice. I always go and appoligize to the nurses. My ortho DR is great at keeping my pain controlled, but there are time when nothing helps. I myself have had nasty patients. They are a problem, they drain your energy and nerves. This is the time for nurses to talk to their DR. and find out what they usually do at home to relieve pain or what they do to distract their attention. It is always good to take time to blow off steam away from the job.

Can someone please tell me why vaccinated children are getting Whooping Cough. My family member has it and I know they had all vaccinations because I gave all vaccines and busters to them myself?

Bummer! I have put my foot n my mouth so many times I have had to have it surgically removed. Keep your chin up, mouth shut and scream into a pillow. Hope all turns out well for you

I have everything spelled out right down to the person(persons) that get to pull the plug and/or watch me take my last breath. Every member of my family and some friends have a copy. Giving every one that is involved a copy, truly lets me have the last word. I am in my late 50's and I don't ever think I have had the last, final word on anything. :chuckle :rotfl:

If you happen to be in Greenville SC forget approaching any one. I lived there a long time ago, we wore all white. I no longer own anything that is white. I think the reason for a certain color is coming from so many abductions. It is suppose to let parents and staff know where you belong. Not to say that anyone can buy scrubs in those colors. I feel for you, believe me when I say if I had to wear a certain color that does not suit me I would look like a clown. Yellow makes me look like I am anemic. God bless:uhoh3:

:angryfire May God have mercy on us all. The ads for medication are nothing more than hell for the medical profession. I cannot count the times I have had a patient insist on a certain drug that they saw on TV. Those ads make it sound as if all your problems will suddenly dissapear if you take this or that medication. The worst part of all, the patient will no doubtly sue the provider for not giving the med., or for giving the med and the patient doesn't return to the life of a 20 year old with the stamina and looks they think they should have. May God have mercy on mothers who insist on an antibiotic for their child that only has a virus. Medications that are prescribed just to shut someone up only create super bugs that are nearly impossible to get rid of. Some how people need to realize that drug abuse is more than taking an illegal drug, it is also the misuse of a legal drug as well. :angryfire

Tongue rings are DANGEROUS. You know there is the issue of pericarditis, or other infections. I think tongue rings are distasteful, only my opinion. Where I live it took the postoffice 3 weeks to give me a 911 address because they had to use the GPS system to find our property. Heaven forbid I should need an ambulance, forget the fire dept. At one hospital the doc's come in their overalls, or what ever they happen to be wearing. They make me want to puke. Just because I live in a very rural area doesn't give any professional to look like they just crawled out of bed, a barn, or a beer joint. Unfortunately tattoos cannot be easily erased. There are a lot of people paying for getting drunk and getting a tattoo or just getting one for fun. I kinda would sorta like to have a small rose on my ankle. My mother would stroke, Yes I am over 50. I do not even own a white uniform. Heaven forbid we go to that.

AMEN!!!!!!! Law enforcement has the "Blue Wall of Silence" I have never heard of a Doctor testify against another DR, much less turn them into the BME. Has anyone ever known one lawyer to turn another over to the bar association? Or sue another lawyer. I would never do this again. It is NOT worth the money. There is not enough salt in the sea to make me become a nurse. I am almost to retirement and if I make it out alive I will probable die of a heartattack simply because I made it to retirement with at least part of my bottom that hasn't been chewed off.:uhoh21:

In a case where there is sufficient persons on the scene, you know EMS is on the way, the best thing a person can do is to STAY OUT OF THE WAY. You did the right thing. Too many people can cause more trouble than they can help.

One night a man was brought into the ER. His face was swollen and he was holding his butt at the same time. He would not sit in a wheel chair. Into the trauma room he went he lay on his side while his wife explained that they had been at an outdoor show and her husband went to the port-a-john. When he sat doun he sat on a brown recluse, when the spider bit him he jumped up so fast that he hit his face on the door of the john and broke his jaw.. The rest as they say is history. Believe it or not I was trying to teach my husband to fly fish. He insisted on standing beside me. When I was trying to show him how to pull the line, As I was pulling the wind caught the line and it caught in in the NOSE of all places. Try taking your husband to the ER to get the hook out of his nose. Too bad it didn't have a ring on it:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I had artificial nails for a very long time. It took almost a year for my natural nails to grow out sufficiently. I kept them painted with a clear nail hardner, not much help. I applied a nail cream to the base every time I washed my hands. It is a royal pain in the bottom. You need to have something over your own nails or you risk infection. When you write your rebuttal, very nicely ask for direction with your thin nails. Address the safety issue, ie risk of infection. Also address in a professional way the fact that your own nails are hurt if not protected. Be professional. Kiss what you have to now, get even later.

A nurse I used to work with got a very small splinter from a patient door in her finger. She wound up having to have the finger amputated and is now permanent dissability. We often over look the smallest things. ie Poisionous spiders, ticks, small cuticle tears. I have become somewhat OCD when it comes to my hands and fingernails os a result of my friends splinter. Chapped hands are amoung the worst offenders, they are a breeding ground for infection. Hope all goes well for you. Take things easy and do try to JUMP back in full force.:)

I hope things go well for you. I know exactly how you feel. If you are in a new town, get to know people, and places of interest. You will be surpeised just how much there is "out there" just waiting for you.:balloons:

Have I ever thought about quitting? Yes. The stress just isn't worth it anymore. Believe it or not nurses have feelings too. I get headaches, have nightmares about meanspirited peers, DR's, DON, BON, etc. Screaming patients, family members, and the general staff . I know I an a good nurse, not perfect, there have been times I felt great about the care I gave in a day and times I felt very inadequate. Does it affect patient care? You better believe it does. If you are not up to par how can you give good care? If you have to question every step that you make, you become insecure. There is nothing worse than an insecure nurse in an emergency. I know I have even saved a few lives. I do not know what will fix the system. I am tired of writing letters, making phone calls and defending my every move. When the health care system falls completely apart and we put it back together, maybe then we can start to fix what is wrong. Until the "powers that be" even start to recognize that there is a real problem, nothing will change. I salute all nurses.

If your friend is suffering from, and I am sure she is, Post Traumatic Stress, she falls under the American's with Dissibilities Act. Now is the time for her to call a lawyer. If she is not getting treatment, please make sure she does. Trauma is not always physical.

GREAT CATCH I often wonder how big a person's ego has to be in order to do things like we all have been through. One night I called a DR at 0300. His order said 80 mg nubain. Everyone on the floor looked at the order. I called the DR and said " we have intreperted your order as 80 mg nubain, he then told me it was NEBSIN not nubain. I knew 80 mg of nubain would drop a T-Rex. Nebsin is Tobramycin. Really big difference. The DR actually got written up for illegible hand writing. One for the nurses!

Thanks for you words, I have not completely thrown in the towel. I am just tired. My spirit is broken and I do not know how much more of this I can take. My hysband is very supportive, thank goodness. I never considered work a competitive sport. For the life of me I do not understand why the different BON;s get off by crushing nurses like a bug. I have writen so many letters, I have cried, I have climbed trees and just sat there for hours trying to figure out what to do next, oh by the way, my lawyer is gravely ill and has no back up. How's that for irony? I think my life could really be a comedy of errors. Any ideas as what do I do next? I am out of money and I think my soft spot had opened up.:uhoh21:

I had to have a physc eval, as ordered by the TX BON she found nothing and stated so in her report to the BON. However the BON thinks I am unfit as a nurse. I swear this is true for all those who doubt. I am so tired I am just going to turn in my license. My husband is livid with the hospital where I worked and the state board.. If I were a drug addic or an alcholic there would be no problem, but God forbid if we pray with a patient. I only hope that when I come to the end of my life someone will pray with me. The only thing that the BON has required of me is a class in ethics, and 2 years probation. In other words Leave GOD at home. :angryfire

:imbar Agreed. I am suppose to "get off" at 0715. More often than not I leave around 0815. Drive for an hour home, feed the dog, fortunatley my children are grown, husband is at work, By this time it is at least 0930 or 1000. Then there is the mandatory meeting at 1600. This means I "sleep" until 1430 then race like a demon to work. No wonder we are going insane one night at a time.

You need a medical malpractice policy directly related to the field you are in. Personal liability most likely would not help, if you could find one it most likely would be far too expensive.

You can use it in your home. I love mine. I live past the equator but before you get to nowhere and it is the only way to pick up anything good:coollook:

My unit manager of all people had to work one night, she had no idea what to do. I loved it. The day and night shift issue will never end, but I do know one thing.:rotfl: JESUS TURNED WATER INTO WINE BUT HE CANNOT TURN WHINNING INTO ANYTHING:)
