I have no idea how I'm going to study for this test & my mom is on my back about it
Good luck to you. What I find pretty funny is that you are 17 and your mom is riding your coat tails and I am 38 and my mom calls me daily to see if I am studying for the NCLEX-RN, LOL. I guess all moms are alike but they just want us to pass. You will be fine but focus on finishing high school first then concentrate on the NCLEX after you graduate. Good luck.

Kaplan Question Trainer Scores
I just signed up for Kaplan On Demand and I believe that 55% is the target score so you are good. :) Just out of curiosity, which Kaplan Course Book edition did Kaplan send to you? I won't be getting my until mid-week but a friend of mine gave me his book which is the twelfth edition. Joe

I have had a hard time getting going again and I have been told my many that I should use the Kaplan review book. I have the review book on hold at Barnes & Noble (2011-2012 Edition) which i will pick up tonight. Noyesno, congrats on the new job and best of luck to you. I have one more obstacle to overcome........

Questions about the Kaplan Review Course
I am debating on whether or not I should take the Kaplan online course, buy the Q Bank, or just buy the Kaplan review book? Do you get enough questions in the Kaplan review book with rationales? Financially I can't afford the online course but I need to pass the NCLEX. Do you think i would be okay with the review book only? Thank you, Joe

Registering for NCLEX - Pearson Vue
What I was wondering was if i could send my application to the BON first then wait to sign up for Pearson Vue or do I have to sign up for both at the same time? I am still recovering financially because my preceptorship only allowed me to work 10 hour weeks so I was hoping to sign up for each over a two week period if at all possible.

Registering for NCLEX - Pearson Vue
Hello: I finally made it out of nursing school and I am now eligible to register for the NCLEX with NY state. What is the process? Do I first wait to receive my letter allowing me to take the exam and I then register for Pearson Vue or can I do it all at the same time? Can I even pick a date though from Pearson Vue if I did not yet get the okay from the state? Thanks in advance, Joe

Honor Societies for Students
Thank you for the replies. I guess it wouldn't hurt for me to find out where I rank in the class. I am going to write to my school's representative to see where I rank. I only have two semester's left before I graduate so I do not think it will be possible for me to get myself in the top 35% of my class but it won't hurt to check. Oh, and I am not offended but just for the record I am male =). Thanks, Joe

Any Nursing students out there who's had difficulty?
I did not read all the replies but have you tried tutoring? I sign up for it every semester regardless of whether or not I need it or not but in just about every situation I have needed it. I know time is hard to come by so I get my tutoring on weekends which ruins the weekend but the tutoring is well worth it. Good luck.

Honor Societies for Students
Are there any other societies out there available to nursing students other than Sigma Theta Tau? Unfortunately my GPA is only a 3.11 so I am not eligible to become a member of Sigma Theta Tau. Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to work full time and become a nurse???
Hello, I have been going to school since June 2004, working full time and with three children (11, 7, & 2).I t is not easy and please let your spouse know that you will have to be given ALOT of you time to study, paperwork, etc. Nursing School is the entire family committing and not only you but it can be absolutely done. You will most likely have to leave work early for clinical sooner or later but before you commit to an university see if they have evening/weekend classes and take advantage of those so you do not lose too much pay because of leaving work early. Good luck.

Male Student Nurse Interested in OB.
Hi: I am three semesters away from graduating and so far I have liked OB the most. What I am worried about is that me being a male could be a problem which is understandable. My intentions are all good and so far I have been most comfortable working with newborn's and their mother's. I have talked to a few female student's and they believe that I would be fine in OB because I have a good personality and because they have seen me in the OB setting and they have noticed that all female patient's seem very comfortable speaking with me and allowing me to provide them with care. What worries me is that an OB nurse manager which are of course predominantly women wouldn't even consider hiring a male for the OB department. Should I just forget about it now or should I continue networking myself and complete my practicum in OB? I would appreciate all feedback whether good or bad. Thanks.

What do you do with your limited spare time?
Hi: I need to vent. Between work, school, clinical, family, starting an expediting business which is going to takeoff, and other general thing's my time is limited and I am feeling burnt out. I would love to do what I enjoy best which is playing World of Warcraft but when I do I feel guilty so I just don't play. World of Warcraft is a time consuming game but the people I play with are practically family because I have been playing various games with the same people since 2000 so I enjoy their company. For some reason when school starts I put this thought in my head that I can no longer play because school has started but when I'm not playing I find myself browsing the web reading forums anyway. I am considering trying to squeeze in World of Warcraft because I am just burning myself out and I need a getaway. If I do not have something to go to I feel like I am going to be miserable and I do not want to spend another semester miserable. Does everyone have a getaway and if so does it consume alot of your free time and if so do you feel guilty? I hope my post makes sense hehe.

Clinical Instructor Woes
I totally agree with Cali, you might be asking for trouble if you attempt to have the teacher reprimanded by her superior. When I have been in a similar situation I just keep reminding myself that there will be more clinical time to come and hopefully when I do pass the NCLEX and I am hired by a hospital I will learn more during my 6month probation. I hope I made sense.

What students should NOT do before, during, and after exams
I HATE No. 1 more than anything. I usually cover my ears or just use my ear plugs before a test. You have no idea how much I HATE No. 1.

Does anyone else wake up in the middle of the night for no reason?
I am going to go to the gym tomorrow after work. I probably should have mentioned before that I am also overweight. At 6 foot 0 inches and 263 pounds I could stand to lose at least 60 pounds. I have been monitoring my time recently and I noticed that I am a much better night time studier than daytime (sad that it took me this long to figure this out). I am going to try hard to go to the gym Friday evenings, Saturday and Sunday mornings and possibly 1 or 2 cardio only nights during the week. We'll see what works but I need to do something.
