  1. Hello: I graduated nursing school in 2011, failed the NCLEX four times and have been working since but I am ready to get back up on the horse again and pass the NCLEX but I am not sure what I should do to prepare. The school I graduated from has provided me with an ATI tutor but I am honestly just unsure about ATI. Should I just do questions and review using U-World or continue working with the tutor and ATI? I am just not 100% certain that the ATI tutor and ATI will help me to pass the NCLEX. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks, Joe
  2. I graduated in May 2011 and failed the NCLEX 4 times so you can imagine how I feel =(. I am starting a Kaplan review course Tuesday and I have access to Hurst review but I am seriously doubting myself. My test is on 2/10 (my birthday) so I am hoping it will be a great day and I am also one year cancer free on 1/30 so I have a few good things to look forward to but I sm seriously nervous I am going to be a 5 time NCLEX failure.
  3. The yellow Saunders book is the fifth edition.
  4. I am in New York State and I see just beachy nurse's point and it make sense. In NYS the application to the state BON for approval is a one time deal but like beachy mentioned it depends on the state. In NYS and in most states only the ATT expires (I think it is 90 days in most states). The eligibility to test in most states does not expire but like Beachy said you should check with your state. Hope this helps.
  5. Please do not let that first sentence confuse you. Even if you were to leave the date as is and not show you would still have to pay Pearson Vue only and not the state BON but it would just take a little longer for you to receive your ATT.
  6. Hello. Unschedule the test and let your ATT expire and you will have to pay the $200 to Pearson Vue only. The BON in your state has to approve you only once and that is it. This was very recent that I did this too. I called Pearson Vue and and asked them what I should do and they recommended that I unschedule instead of not showing up. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  7. Hello. I let my ATT expire once and all I had to de was pay the $200 again to Pearson Vue. Good luck. You do not need to reapply to your state board of nursing.
  8. Hello: 187 questions and 4-1/2 hours later and the computer shut down. I honestly cannot tell you if I passed or not and I do not want to ruin Father's Day by trying the PV trick in case i did fail. All I can do is keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best and if it doesn't work out I am going to get back up on the horse for another round. Joe
  9. Congratulations =). I have done my best studying the day before and the day of a test. Please do not laugh but my best studying is done while in my car with no distractions. I won't be doing questions but I will be reviewing lab values and the NCLEX All Nurses Study Guide.
  10. I am stil studying and nervous as can be. i was wondering what everyone else did the day before the test? I am not taking the test until 1:00 PM EST tomorrow but I plan on getting up early and sitting in the parking lot and studying until 12:30. I used to do this back in nursing school and it worked so why not try it again. Signed, Nervous.
  11. Hello: I graduated in December 2010 and proceeded to fail the NCLEX twice. The last time I failed was in September 2011. I think it is time to get back up on the horse and pass the test already. I hate to say this going in to the study portion of the NCLEX but I feel like the NCLEX is my unicorn which I know is bad because it sets me up for failure. I am going to try to think positive. How do you recommend I jump back in to preparing for the exam? I have an ATI tutor that is helpful and I also have access to both Kaplan (purchased a sub), and to Saunders - Fifth Edition. I also have access to NCLEX 4000, Lippincott, amongst other material but I would like to stick to ATI, Kaplan, and Saunders. Am I in trouble because so much time has passed between my graduation and the last time I took the exam? Thank you in advance for any support you can provide. Joe
  12. Update: I spoke to the NY State Board of Nursing and they told me that only Pearson Vue could extend the ATT. I find this amusing because Pearson Vue told me to contact the State Board. When I called Pearson they told me that they never extend the ATT's and that I had no choice but to take the exam or wait until my validity date passed and start the process all over again. I went ahead and scheudled the exam for February 6th. I hope I have enough time and energy to pass the exam. Please wish me luck and more importantly for my mother in law whom is doing better to get well soon. Joe
  13. I have to call back tomorrow. I was thinking it would be a HIPAA issue if someone was to give me a copy of a document that showed that she was in the hospital but yes I guess if my mother in law said it was okay there would be no issue. I will call them tomorrow and see what happens. If you allow the ATT to expire and not take the test I know I would have to pay another $200 but would I get the ATT immediately because I technically did not fail the test?
  14. I called the Board of Nursing and I spoke to someone who said I needed to speak to a specific department but they do not accept calls on Tuesdays so I have to call back tomorrow. The person I did speak to did mention that the reason for having an ATT extended requires a really good reason and he is not sure if my reason is good. Not to mention, how do I prove to them that my mother in law is in the hospital without violating HIPAA?
  15. Thank you for the replies. I was on live chat with Pearson Vue and they told me to contact the NY State Board of Nursing to ask for an extension. Does this make sense and under what circumstances will they do it?
  16. My mother in law had a stroke over the weekend and then hemorrhaged and she takes coumadin so I am sure I need not explain how almost impossible it was to stop the bleeding. The bleeding finally stopped but of course now she is no longer anti coagulating so she is at risk for clots. I won't even mention the two masses they have found on her liver and I have one doctor telling me he believes they are blood vessels but another doc is telling me they are masses, possibly cancerous. Sorry if this is TMI but I needed to vent. I may not be ready on 2/6 to take my NCLEX and I'd rather not go and fail the test if I could just pay the $200 and reschedule for a date when I could be ready and hopefully pass. I do not even know what the outcome is for my mother law yet so I just cannot focus. I spent the weekend being a good husband and helping my wife out as much as I could and quite frankly I just cannot focus right now. Can I pay the $200 now and reschedule or do I have to wait for my first ATT to expire? Thanks, Joe
  17. Hello: I am considering purchasing the 8 week subscription to the NCSBN Review but I was hoping to get some feedback from those that are currently using it or have used it recently? I did a search and most of what I found was from a few years back. I also noticed many posts complaining of technical issues, do they still exist? My NCLEX testing background unfortunately includes two failures =(. I used Kaplan and not only has my sub finished but I just did not like the Kaplan program. My plan is to use NCSBN and Saunders but only if NCSBN is worth it otherwise I am not sure what I should do. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thank you.
  18. A permit is totally different from state issued identification and that is why no one will recognize a learner's permit as identification. When you go take your road test the tester will ask you for the learner's permit and for identification which is your state ID. You will have NO problem what so ever using your state ID on test day. There are many whom obtain their learner's permit that never go for their driver's license and that is why a state agency will never void a state issued identification if someone obtains a learner's permit. Good luck on the test. Joe
  19. KLudRN, I sent you a PM, please check it if/when you have a chance? Thank you, Joe
  20. Follow your heart. I changed careers and just graduated nursing school in December and so far it has been well worth it because it is a respected career. I am in the process of leaving the plumbing field and will do so if I pass the NCLEX on August 8th. If you like law you can always do it on the side which is what I will do with plumbing. I have a lot of knowledge with all of the New York City agencies required documents and I always get requests for me to complete required documents so I charge fee and make extra money. Good luck to you. As a side note, you mentioned marriage so certainly do not let that get in the way of pursuing nursing school. I was married with little bambino's running around wwhile attending nursing school and sure I wanted to pull my hair out of my head at times but it all worked out so it can be done. Joe
  21. Thank you for replying. I am feeling pressure from my family too which is just not cool. I work full time, married with three kids and then i get home and i study but it has not been an easy road, nor should it but I will try to make sure i am ready. I am scheduled to take the exam on April 21st but I thought about giving myself another week to prepare but we'll see. Thanks, Joe PS I needed to vent.
  22. I completed my first Kaplan question trainer last night and I did absolutely horrible because the first three question trainers are based on recall and recognition. Throughout nursing school I was only able to retain information for an upcoming test and for some reason as soon as the test was complete I seemed to forget everything. I know I am not stupid but I am in a bind here because I am taking the NCLEX on April 21st and how am i supposed to review content, do my 50-60 questions per day, and then review the rationales? I need some guidance as far as what will be the most effective way for me to continue preparing because quite honestly I feel lost at the moment =(. I could not sleep last night because of how poorly I did and here I am at work wondering if i have it in me to do this =(. Joe
  23. Me three please. [email protected] Meds are my weakest point too. Is the Kaplan medications You Need To Know any good? Thanks, Joe
  24. I am also using Kaplan On Demand and I signed up yesterday. use all of the resources that Kaplan offers you and if you have time maybe you can take a look at Saunders or Lacharity but you will be okay with Kaplan. The On Demand offers 3,000 questions so that alone is a lot of work. Good luck.
  25. Does anyone know which edition the RN Course Book is these days? Is it the twelfth edition?
