Have to make a decision but I'm afraid
Take the time off. Be grateful that you have that option. Don't let FEAR BE THE FACTOR you will be fine when you return.

Time for a change
Every nurse needs a shot of "Terminal Patient Care", its grounding and rewarding. I worked on a Neuro floor and in a Neuro office its draining. Any time a nurse begins to feel she /he needs a change, they should MAKE A CHANGE.

Do you identify yourself as a nurse when you or your family are a patient?
No,,i just want to be a family member, at my primary care appointments, I just want to be a patient. unfortunately sometimes my family will tell the staff. Yet I have been in situations when it was necessary to reveal my Nurse idenity. You just need to evaluate the situation and then determine what is best.

Protection from violence off duty
I purchased a 32 when working for Hospice because I was out late at night and traveled in known unsafe areas,,How you protect yourself is up to you,,,I just don't want to be in a situation without any means of protecting myself,,the idea of helplessness scares the crap out of me...

Documentation Questions
Things change all the time, taking the class is a great suggestion, but this information can be found on the web also. As for the abbreviation I suggest " better safe than sorry" write it out, if the facility doesn't want you to use it, then don't...

Question HR asked when apply for hospital....
First of all, take a deep breath and think about your goals, if you are in school and need tuition reimbursement , that should be a priorty Second you are a new graduate, therefore you are still looking for your niche', its ok... Talk to a nurse recruiter and tell them you feel this position is not a good fit for you. There are so many different options available in Nursing, so do your homework (research other options) and make a change. In order to best serve the patients you need to feel "work place happiness" so talk to someone and get out of your situation without, bashing the unit you are in now.... Good Luck:)

Maybe I should quit before I start...
SOUNDS LIKE, It's your calling to me a nurse,,,Go to school,,,Become a Nurse,,,Be the best Nurse you can be,,, There will always be jobs for good Nurses,,,In some states the need is changing,, I have heard here in North Carolina that new nurses are having difficulty due to no experience, so be open to the market needs,, if you work hard, continue your education (CME's ETC.),,,you will have a job...:)

Dealing with CNA's
My advice is to talk to a supervisor or mentor for guidance. I am very direct and professional when talking to CNA's regarding patients, giving medical advice, education etc. You will have this type of issue over and over throughout your nursing career,,, so do your homework, talk with other experienced nurses and get their advice on how they handle these types of problems. CNA's are very valuable, and they are very knowledgeable, but if they are out of their scope, it should be addressed asap. Unfortunately patients sometimes think they are talking to a nurse, when its actually a CNA, when they repeat what they are told, they will say the nurse told me,,, so NURSE UP! GOOD LUCK:nurse:

Posting advice: "I can't do this, ...I don't understand you"
There is a saying: while in Rome, do as the Romans do. Personally I appreciate good writing skills and grammar. This site is for nurses, WE ARE PROFESSIONALS,,so we should communicate as professionals.. Thats my thoughts.

Just took the PN nclex :(
Hang in there I'm sure you did fine. 16 years ago when I took the LPN exam, I had over 150 questions and when the computer cut off, I thought I would pass out. AND I DID PASS,,so don't worry :)

I use up all of my compassion at work.
take this from experience,,,patients love u, other nurses admire your dedication, but at the end of the day, when its time to say we need to cut a salary or down size,,,no one really cares,,,BUT THATS WHAT GREAT NURSES DO,,,,get some therapy and work on it.

The face of nursing is changing.
a struggle is life and life is a struggle. As a nurse here in North Carolina the face of nursing is changing. Management is very educated, but very short on common sense and the challenges of nurses. Companies are putting clinics under their umbrealla and calling it a business. There are more boses than patients. Over 40% of clinic patients each day have no insurance or income, how long can this last? In the mean time, we as nurses put on our fire hat and aim our hoses at the hot spots as they blaze out of control throughout the day. Can anyone relate?
