  1. What wage did they offer you? I've been interviewing at Hospitals and I anticipating an offer shortly and don't know what wage to expect.
  2. Sejones, I am in the middle of the ADN program day and I love it. Definitely worth the money. They have had problems in the past but the new director of the program has really been proactive and made a lot of corrections in the program. We have Kaplan all the way through helping with critical thinking skills and the material itself. I have another degree as well and was able to transfer most everything into the college. I did take my pre-q, except for micro, at St Kate's. I needed the 1-on-1 with instructors for A&P and was able to learn a lot and get down good study habits for the nursing courses themselves. Good luck! Katelyn
  3. Congrats! I don't live there but it's a beautiful city. It's a wonderful little city with a lot to offer. Try and get involved after you feel comfortable in a church or organization to meet people if you need to. Everyone there is definitely Minnesota Nice.
  4. Hello fellow CNA's, Students, and Nurses, I have my very 1st day of orientation on Friday at a long-term care facility. I am a nursing student and a mom of two boys :) and got a casual job. I'll only have to work 2 shifts a month plus whatever else I have time to pick up. My question is, what should I wear? Scrubs of course, but does it really matter about the print ect.? I took my CNA class and wore a floral top and got a lot of looks, possibly because I was a student. I just want to make sure their isn't some etiquette I'm not aware of. Thank you!
  5. Hey Ladies and Gents, I am currently a 1st year nursing student at St. Kate's in Minneapolis MN. It's a great school for associates (of course it's not perfect but no school is) and I'm trying hard to be proactive about getting a job when I graduate. I just got a job as a casual CNA (no holidays and I can pick up as many shifts as I want) and I'm thinking about becoming a doula for the L&D experience to get a job. Is this a good idea? Will it help? I can't imagine it would hurt Thank you! Katelyn
  6. Thank you. I am looking into getting the Rosetta Stone Spanish courses to become fluent and also teach my kids. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 year old that I would like to teach so knowing Spanish would just be a bonus for work. I was hoping it would help in the job search when I am done with school in 2 years.
  7. Great for you! I am starting my classes next week. Any suggestions on studying tips?
  8. Thank you PchezRN for posting this question. Does anyone else have a good way to answer this question. I personally have a lot of anxiety in making mistakes and am going to do everything I can to not make a life threatening mistake. I have also been told that it's not a matter of if but when.
  9. Hello Nurses/Nursing Students, I have been thinking about learning a second language, Spanish specifically, and I was wondering if it would pay off in my nursing career. I am currently a student at St. Kate's right now getting my ADN. I am looking to improve my attractiveness in the job market and am wondering if this would make a difference. Also, will I make more knowing a second language? Thank you!
  10. I have a BS in Business Administration and I start my ADN next month. Hopefully I can still us my degree in nursing.
  11. I have two boys, ages 1 and 2 1/2, and I give you a lot of credit. Without help I would consider hiring someone to clean your house. That would trim about 2 hours off your household duties and give you more time to be mom or student.
  12. dinah77- I have a question about St Kate's Dosage and Calculation class. Is it worth studying ahead? After joining allnurses.com and reading other posts I am nearly curled up in the fetal position about to cry, worried how hard his is going to be. I chose St Kate's because how the program is structured, I like only worrying about one nursing class at a time, even if it is a heavy load. I read your previous posts and I am going to look back on my old psychology course work to freshen up. Anything else I can do to prepare?
  13. Fear of failing is normal and it can be something that pushes you forward or makes you cry and curl up in the fetal position:yawn: I have a strong faith in God and I know that he puts me in situations to learn and grow as a person. You wold not be in nursing school if there wasn't a plan for you! Focus on yourself becoming a nurse, this last semester is just another step. You've had it this far! You'll do great and if you need the help get it, there's no shame or blame in admitting you need help.
  14. I'm in the same boat but I can tel you what I am doing. 1. Menu Planning! It's going to make my evening with my two kids a lot easier and I don't have the terrible question on my way home of what's for dinner! I plan my grocery shopping list out and try to buy for 2 weeks at a time. I also coupon which makes thing cheaper but not easier. 2. Good daycare. I trust the people I'm leaving my kids with so I can focus on school on not on what there doing. 3. Get a good planner- Plan out your days, weeks, and months to manage your workload. Maybe you write a paper a week in a half before it's due just because you don't have time to do it closer. You'll never know until you map it out. 4. Pray- I'm counting on some grace from God to get me through the next two years :)
  15. Great job! I am just starting my nurse classes next month so I have nothing to compare your story to but it sounds awesome!
