  1. All I want to say is thank you for sharing this tokyoROSE! :)
  2. You're very welcome! If you can, have your resume revised and keep on trying. Don't give up! Just learn what you can from your interview experiences and research and prepare for next time! Good luck!
  3. Hi, I currently work in a family health center and the questions I was asked were also clinical, but they ask you in also to gauge whether or not you are trainable and you are a right fit for them. True, they do ask clinical skills, but I find that whenever they correct you, it isn't to be mean, but to also see how you handle pressure and criticism. Nursing is a learning process and you won't believe how many nurses I know personally who take offense to everything they are told to them when all managers and educators want to do is improve their nursing practice. I interviewed for a NYC hospital and I forgot some details in a clinical question and when she corrected me, I listened carefully so that way I can learn. For next time. And still, I was offered the position. And I just got hired in a major NYC hospital, in an area totally different to the area I am currently in- she had some doubts because of my background but she gave me a chance because I was a good fit for her. It is also important to understand these managers are people too and sometimes they are willing to teach you if you are the personality you are looking for and you know beforehand what you are getting yourself into.I want to agree with the above post too. It is important to prepare as much as possible for your interview. Learn about mission statements and what the hospital/ facility practices are, as well as what they are known for. Go over questions they may ask you and make sure you incorporate these statements into your answers. It took me about 2-3 interviews to really figure out what I was doing wrong. Be professional, smile and be kind and humble, don't be overenthusiastic and listen carefully. Hope all of this helps! I am just giving you how it has been like for me!
  4. Hey ECRN, Were you actually interviewed? When I went, one of the managers just showed myself and four other women around the units but never actually interviewed any of us. I only saw the NICU interviewing individually. Has anyone gotten a call back? It seems like from the past experience, it takes roughly a week after the interview to hear back. Anything yet?
  5. Thanks so much for the heads up estrella! Sounds great! Even if the wait is long, I am looking forward to starting orientation. I know that at least, I got hired somewhere while I still search. Other people have told me that NCBH is a good hospital too. So, we shall see what happens this week!
  6. Yeah, LIJ is one of those places you need to keep applying. They always have openings but you need to remember you are competing with hundreds of applicants. A lot of it is a numbers game I believe. I am almost certain that there is only one or two sets of eyes in these recruitment places and they will not go over the 300+ applicants' resumes one by one, but I could be wrong. Anybody know?
  7. Hi lemoncookie, Yes, I am still interviewing! I like the unit at Harlem that is hiring me but the wait is very long. I am hanging in there. Any info on NCBH? How are you liking to work at HHC?
  8. hi estrella, Thanks so much for the response and sorry for taking so long to reply! I appreciate it! I also have another interview with North Central Bronx Hospital this coming week. Have you heard of that hospital? I hear it is not bad! And by the way, how are you liking Kings County? I really like the appeal of the HHC hospitals. They have excellent benefits and they are welcoming of new grads.
  9. Does anyone know how long does it truly take HHC to file all the paperwork from the moment of hire to orientation? I recently got the verbal hire at Harlem Hospital and I was reading it may take months before I get into the classroom? I am very concerned now. What do I do now? I am almost compelled to continue my search because the recruiter said that my unit wanted me to start the second orientation next month but I haven't gotten word yet of the physicals and all the other processing.
  10. I am a new grad and got my license in March.interviewed for the fellowship a few weeks ago. Hang in there and keep applying non-stop! We are all bound to land a little something! Good luck!
  11. rnmj, Congratulations! Were you called late Friday afternoon? I hope they aren't done with the selection process yet! Soo nervous!
  12. Ahhh ok, thanks, sophhusk! Good luck to everyone! Fingers crossed now.
  13. I also interviewed. Does anybody know if the 25-30 people interviewed will be getting the phone call back or will it only be the 10 chosen for the Fellowship? I forgot to ask that question!
  14. Is there a specific amount of hours maximum you are allowed to work while there?
  15. Scott- So is it like job hunting basically? And also, do we get paid more because of our Bachelor degrees/ experiences?
  16. Hopeful- Thanks so much for all the help! Now I have a better idea what's going on. Best of luck with your new career. Please let me know where you end up! And best of luck on the NCLEX!!!
  17. Hopeful- Even better news! Thank you for the time to respond! Now I understand why NYU has a high passing rate. You definitely get what you pay for. I'm a babysitter and my boss is super flexible so I'm hoping to go for a bit longer. So how is the job market for recent NYU grads? Loan forgiveness and contracts (sign in bonus and things like that)? I'm new to all of this and feel a bit out of orbit so I'm trying to absorb and prepare for what's ahead!:)
  18. Oh that is so good to hear! Here I was thinking how on earth was I going to fit all that into my schedule! Simulation/ clinical plus the classes. I am pretty sure pathophysiology will have a lab, but not 100% sure if it's part of the course schedule or under another code I am actually starting to read up on how things work there to try and make sense of it all. I have a question about the license exam- is it true the school preps you for it, that it is inclusive? I heard that from a friend of mine.
  19. Hmm... Is the clinical rotation at a certain time that once a week or they'll just call you and tell you last minute like I heard they do at SUNY Downstate? Hmm... I'll definitely need to make the next meet and greet they offer. And thanks for letting me know! As for Hunter, the nursing program is excellent. The school is ok. I may be a little biased, since I earned my BA in Hunter but I personally don't like it. From what I heard they are very moody down at the Nursing Department and hate when you are nosy/ask questions. You'll be pretty much on your own but if you know you can do it, then go. You will save a bundle.
  20. Scott- Quick question: Did they talk about the typical day of the nursing student there? At what time would we begin/finish? Can we choose the times we can start and end? I have a part-time job and it's afternoons (after school); would be great if I were able to keep it for at least one more semester.
  21. Does anyone know when the next meet and greet will be? Finals are this and next week and won't be able to attend. Will there actually be another? I've been in the City for 7 years and never, ever visited the campus. Trying not to think about it until after my last final because excitement won't let me study :)
  22. I received the e-mail this morning and... I got in too!!!! I was in the school library and I started to jump up and down. I thought I was going to get kicked out of the library! Congratulations to all who got accepted!!!
  23. How about if the nurse is after the end of her shift? And it is time to go home? She can well refuse an order because her day is over. How can you address something like that if you were written up for insubordination at the END of thei shift?
  24. Well, hopefully, tomorrow will be a Good Friday for the batch that is accepted tomorrow. Good luck to those still semi-patiently waiting! Hope tomorrow is the day!:)
  25. Hey guys! Isn't Friday Good Friday? I don't think they're opened. I. Know Cuny schools aren't. So maybe tomorrow?
