  1. Pay per visit seems to be a way to screw over nurses.
  2. In Ohio, if you're not working at a small facility, you need at least a year they told me. I work at small agency and they just want a license and some hands on experience. Home Health has its own issues, but for now I like it better than the hospitals I've been at. I actually didn't like hospitals during nursing school, but since I already spent money I finished up the degree.
  3. Wendy's Spicy Chicken Ceasar Salad!
  4. Have you tried taking some handwriting classes? I have medium neatness handwriting. My job said something in the beginning but they're decent about it now. I still would like to improve it more.
  5. Patient's homes are like battlefields where I'm at. I do regular Home Health. When you are in someone's home, they have rule, but as long as you're respectable they are okay. Give patients a couple day's notice before you visit them so to show them respect, ask about address changes, animals in the home etc. Call 30 minutes before the visit to make sure they're there. When you visit, try to park on the street so you don't block their driveway. When you enter their house be aware of your surroundings, watch for pets, and other people in the home. It's always good to know where the exits are. If you're a woman, I'd get pepper spray.

That's bull! Does anyone know how much an agency gets paid per opening?
  7. Being a nice person with co-workers gets you screwed up in home health I think. I'm new too. Even if you open plenty of patients, do other people's jobs, and work your butt off it really doesn't matter. The next week comes and you're back to square one. The best thing to do is just to get your work done with as little mistakes as possible and keep advancing yourself, either through education or opening your own business. Life is too short to wait for others to realize your worth.
  8. My job gives us work cell phones. I one time, in a emergency, called a patient on my personal cell and she still to this day has my number and calls occasionally for random things like pill boxes. I told her she could call my work cell and she said she'd keep both just in case lol. I learned a valuable lesson from her, never call a patient with your personal cell. If you need to *67 them. If your job doesn't give you guys work cells try setting up a google voice number and call patients with that number. You'll have more control of when they can call you.
  9. When I do occasional case managing in patient's homes, I wear the Nike Air Goadome Boots! These are necessary in people's homes. I've had ankle dogs gnaw at these shoes, I've had to kick open doors and dogs with these babies, and more. Home Health Nursing is like Battlefield Nursing.
  10. I bought an iPad 2 that I just recently sold for a Mac Mini. I love Apple!
  11. Hey Meriwhen, I am also taking the class now. I am having a hard time with it. I will definitely try to start early as you say. I follow the book and lab manual verbatim. That Common Errors Sheet seems to be my downfall. Sometimes while following the book there are additional items that need to be addressed from that Common Errors Sheet even though it isn't specified on the rubric on the assignment itself. The points are so little in the beginning but everything adds up. My main worry is the last week where the bulk of the points reside. If I continue getting points deducted from these small assignments, I can't imagine how bad it will be then.
  12. It would be cool if they'd enable it to work on Tapatalk (iPhone App for forums).
