  1. HELP!!!! (First Semester Nursing School)

Do nclex style questions...if you have mynursing lab...use it. It helps.
  2. Ratio proportion is my tried and true method....can never go wrong. I didn't study for them @ all...basic math no need....I love math..besides @ my school you need college level math to get in.
  3. Nursing School Not For Me

Inursing isn't for you, then it isn't for you. You know you best! If you want an allied health career maybe Respiratory Therapy (I used to do that....Respiratory is a great field), or maybe medical laboratory technoloy (many people overlook this bu...
  4. What is the passing score for your school?

80% no rounding for all classes excet med calc and pharmacology where it is 90%.
  5. I failed my first exam. Now what?

Discover the art of practicing nclex style questions, buy a comprehensive review book, or one from the success series by Davis...even use mynursing lab if there is one for your text....it really makes adifference.
  6. Try focusing on learning the chapter objectives if your teacher hasn't handed out any enabling. Objectives....it should better focus your reading. Compare your chapter objectives in the textbook to your power points and see how close they parallel e...
  7. your gpa

My gpa before nursing school was 3.67....but do not put to much stock in ga. Three students in my class had gpa's ranging from 3.80 -4.00 and they failed first semester twice. Its all about what you do and how you study once you get there. Keep up...
  8. I would learn the nursing process and all of the activities associated with it, as well as health assessment. It is what we do. I wouldn't do med calc because it is fairly easy just simle ratio and proportion.
  9. Pass/fail at your school

A pass for us is 80% for all tests and assignments except medical dosaging were the pass rate is 90%. Of course you can flunk out of your clinical for failure to hand in an acceptable health assessment. Or care plan by the final clinic day (no grade...
  10. What are you carrying all your books in?

@ hmccue, I prefer my books intact....easier to put on the bookshelf(plus looks better ). I actually was given a tone of nursing textbooks when friends and friends of friends found out I was in school for nursing...result= 3 fundies, two peds, w ma...
  11. Failed! 4days before grad!

My advice....or two cents worth....stop crying and feeling sorry for yourself....sometimes these things happen Pick yourself up by the bootstraps, dust yourself off and decare to yourself "next semester I will pass with flying colours!!!" Study up w...
  12. 6 weeks into school we start clinicals! How on earth

My program was 8 weeks, we do bedside care, pass meds...including injections....and when I pass my indwelling urine catheter check off on Tuesday.....I will be doing it on the floor by Thursday....between you and me...I have wondered about unleashing...
  13. Streamlining care plan writing

@ro2878, yah I guess I shouldn't complain to much.....page one only contains: the nursing system, selfcare deficit, the NANDA diagnosis with its definition and defining characteristics. The other page consists of a table with the 5 columns each lab...
  14. Backpack???

I have a tagus backpack, it fits my books and laptop easy......but I hate carrying all that stuff....soon I realized the benefit of my trunk....I keep my textbooks there and just carry my binder and pencil case (my back loves me for this).
  15. too much load???

If you don't need to take the physiology class then don't take it. Yes it can be done..but why stress yourself out. Take it when you are on a break...if your program has a break between years.
  16. Streamlining care plan writing

20 pages I think is a bit excessive. Mine are only 1 1/4 pages (the school sets the template)
  17. Did you buy your stethoscope from Amazon?

No but I bought my BP cuff from there and it was not that great. I ended up getting a great one @ cvs pharmacy for 18.00 that works great and doesn't look cheap.
  18. When did you start clinicals?

Clinicals started for us 8weeks after class began. We had to purchase our uniforms from the school and that could only be done @ orientation....everything else I needed I didn't buy until the week before clinicals began.
  19. how long does it take your profs to grade?

My professors always have grades posted 2-3hrs after the class ends for tests and projects, clinical assignment grades are returned in a week...but we only see our clinical instructor once a week anyway.
  20. Take a refresher course to get yourself in the swing of things and then take your nclex. It is never to late.
  21. Should I get a "jump-start" studying???

If your an independent learner, yes buy a syllabus and begin now...if not wait till your semester begins. If your good in math don't bother going over medical dosaging....its basic math and easy to learn...our school uses ratio-proportion...can't ge...
  22. stressed out!!

Wow!!!!!!! Nursing credits expire and they want you to start all over? Are you kidding me? This school seems money hungry to me. Have you thought of transfering to another college....try excelsior...as long as you have completed 50% of your clinic...
  23. I woud just take the LPN and then go from there....and the girl who failed two courses in one semester...@ my school that is considered 1 fail...when you fail again either one course or both....is considered fail #2 and your out of the program. Good...
  24. From new student nurse to new RN...nursing diagnosis?

ImThat Guy, I totally agree with you!!!!! Every other Allied Health Discipline uses the medical diagnosis as a basis and nursing should as well. I don't understand why nurses need to diagnose at all...I thought that was the physicians job.
  25. Clinical Post Conference

I say hell no to 2hr post-conferences! We students have lives to. One of the things I notice about nursing school is that they enjoy wasting a students time ex. Why schedule and 8 hr lab...take up 4hrs of that lab making us watch videos, just to tu...
