runners in nursing school?
I used to be girl who HATED running and I was terrible at it. I've lost about 50 lbs since so I get where you are coming from. Try intervals - google "running intervals" and start there. My favorite (the one I started with until I could actually DO IT) is this: run 30 seconds/walk 30, run 45 s/walk45, run 60/walk 60, run 90/walk 90 - then work your way back down from 90, 60, 45, 30 Took me a while to get it, where I could run each interval - but from there I started trying different intervals & eventually graduated to running one mile, 3 miles...now I run half marathons. Trust me - it's totally do-able, just one step at a time (literally, ha!) Also visit a running store near you (not academy and such) and ask to be fitted for shoes. It's free, they'll watch your stride and fit you for shoes that are right for your body to eliminate joint/back pain. Running keeps me sane and has made a HUGE life-changing impact for me - don't give up, it took me years of trying and failing until I felt like I was a runner.....

runners in nursing school?
ImThatGuy - thanks, that helps to hear that it's do-able! It does crack me up to talk about running with different groups - it's so true, you can tell someone you just ran 3 miles and if they run marathons, they'll laugh at you. Tell that to someone that never runs, and you are awesome!

Anyone else feel this way after finally starting nursing school?
This might not be the exact same situation, but before I became a nursing student, I was a teacher for many years. I worked so hard to get my degree, get through student teaching, prepare my class, etc....the first day of school (and the week before) I was A WRECK!! I felt like the biggest fake! I was dressed like a teacher - but people were really going to trust me with their kids??? And as a first year teacher, you get observed all the time - people come in your classroom on a daily basis, you teach your lessons in front of administrators all the time. I totally understand what all of you are saying, I do - all I can tell you is, IT PASSES. It really does. I gradually got more comfortable, more at ease, with my new role and it began to feel real. Give it time, take it one day at a time. Listen to the constructive criticism you get - but also, find something good you did each day - I kept a list of things that worked well, things I was proud of, so that I could repeat them the next year. If you get praise from an instructor or preceptor, keep that written down somewhere. Reread those things before each semester so you can remember that you are growing, learning and becoming a better nurse each day.

runners in nursing school?
I am so glad I am not the only one with this issue! I am so used to being able to run every evening - I've started planning my running schedule on a weekly basis and tweaking it as needed. I def agree with packing ahead - I have everything ready to go the night before, lunch packed, running bag and school bags packed, clothes picked out - even breakfast is set out on the counter. My miles have decreased for sure and I'm not racing - which I miss! But 2 miles is better than no miles! It's more about finding time and not feeling guilty for taking a break to run, than being tired - running helps keeps my energy level up. I also deal with anxiety and it keeps it in check. So it's not something I really want to give up :)

Is it insane to take Micro and AP2 together in one semester?
I took them both together this summer along with Chemistry and made straight A's - it's doable, don't worry! Plus, AP2 and Micro are super interesting :) If you get stuck, I tutor on the side (I used to be a school teacher) and I could help you

What to put in lunch box? Can't spoil on me in 4 hours.
there are new tuna packets out there that are already premixed - flavored and everything! they aren't bad and only about a dollar a bag. I throw a tuna bag, some ritz crackers, granola bar, banana...that usually does it. check target and walmart - that's where i always get my tuna packets

runners in nursing school?
is anyone else a runner and in nursing school? How do you balance it? I've been a teacher for the last 7 years - now I am a full time student! My running routine hasn't really adjusted as well as I had hoped - any suggestions for getting in time to run while in school? It helps me stay sane :)

advice from current nursing students please!!!
I was originally going to start a traditional BSN program this fall - however, I got accepted into an accelerated program that starts in January. BUT all of my pre-reqs are done, everything was set for me to start this August. Soooo I have an entire semester on my hands now! I was a school teacher and didn't go back this year, so I can't exactly just stay at work. What do you all suggest I do with this extra time? I am auditing pharmacology and a cardiodiagnostics course at my community college. I was thinking about buying a dosage calc book to get a head start? I don't want to waste this time - what is the best way to use it to be prepared?

RN to MSN questions?? please help!
If I have a previous bachelor's degree...and want to eventually get my MSN (but can't afford it right now) - can I get my ADN (much cheaper) and go back to school later for my MSN - WITHOUT GETTING A BSN FIRST??? I can't find a straight answer on how this program works....if the option is available to go from ADN to MSN because I already have a BS in another field, I would totally go that route!!! Any info on this would help please!
