Interviewing with University Hospital in Cleveland, OH
First go to the site and learn about the hospital,(are they magnet), what is their on going research, mission statement (this on is huge) read it, memorize it, apply it to the questions they give you. You should expect the general "tell us about yourself, do you have any weakness, how do you feeling about working with this population". When I interview for my job, they were just awarded one of the top 50 best hospitals in the U.S and I went to their site and found out the person interviewing me (the unit manager), was one of the first nurses to graduate from the new DNP program at our local university. So of course I congratulated her for her achievement and talked how it was important to me to work for a hospital that values nurse and seeing that they are Magnet recognized, assured me they are. Rememeber, it's also an interview for them too. Ask questions! Opportunities, pay raises, nurse turn over rates. They want to know you have done your research on them too! Be passionate, tell the truth and you'll get it!

Help! New Grad-New state-No job!
I suggest giving it more time. I also graduated in Dec with my BSN and just found a job. I applied for unemployment to help with student loans and bills. I am from the Bay area, Martinez but in live in Florida now. I would say go in and drop off your resume in person, attend every job fair even if hospitals/LTC facilities aren't on the list. Contact the local Work Force. My states also issues a 1 year license to new nurses, it's not a big deal. When filling out job applications, I was told, if I learned, saw or performed the task, to select that I had experience. We all have at least one year of med surg experience just from clinicals. I do agree, if you can work on the BSN. It's worth the money in the long run. Do you have your california state drivers license? I know, that in my state if you have a RN license then you can't work as a CNA. Hope this helps. Don't give up!

Nursing skills test apart of Job application process
So I took the test on a thursday and they called my at 9am friday saying I passed. Then about 10 mins later the unit manager called and asked when I could interview. WOW! Fast! I interviewed that day and got the job. I am working Med Surg PRN. I do have nursing orientation and time with a preceptor. I am cool with the PRN job, my hubby carries the insurance. So this is my foot in the door. The unit supervisor also told me that I could apply for a full time position in 90days and that if one comes up, PRN RN's are offered them first. I am just happy to get this first dreaded "1 year min of med surg experience" out of the way. The test was like taking the NCLEX all over again. It was 54 questions on just med surg and another 54 questions on medication. The unit supervisor said they have a test for every speacilty, so if I go L&D, i'll have to take another one.

Phlebotomy Course
Most hospitals give new grads a 2-4 week course in blood draws and IV starts. I wouldn't worry to much about unless you needed "fluff" for your resume.

Let's introduce ourselves...

Nursing skills test apart of Job application process
I applied for a job and the HR department called me back stating I need to take the computer nursing skills test to complete my application process. Sorta kinda of freaking out. I applied to Med surg and he said it would med surg skills and pharm. Anybody ever take this? I can take it was many times as I want and as often as I need to inorder to pass it. Personally, just want to pass it on the 1st time so they can forward my application to the unit manager. I take it today at 4:30pmEST any thoughts? Any others?

Endorsement in Vermont
Well I think the best person to ask is the Vermont BON. Is it a class or a clinical experience? You need to know how many more hours first off. Then your school in NY can help you out by either putting you in a ped clinical or doing a percept (a one on one clinical) with a nurse. Once you complete the hospital should be able to sign a paper saying you completed the hours and your school can endorse it. Take that to VT and see what they say. Or you can go back to NY and work for those 50days and contact the hospital to see if they will hold your job until then. 50 days isn't that long.

Nursing Skills Test with pharm?
I applied for a job at a local hosptial and they asked if I had taken their Nursing Skill test. Of course I said no. So I am now scheduled to take a test tomorrow. The rep said its on basic nursing skills and pharm for Med Surg since that is the application I put in. Any ideas? I was going to review my NCLEX stuff but I am wondering if there is something else I should look at...

Graduate nurse programs in Jacksonville, FL?
I am a current RN and there is slim picking out here. I passed my NCLEX a week a go and I finally got someone on the phone. From what I was told, they won't talk to you unless you have passed your NCLEX. I applied for the GN position at Shands and heard nothing. My advice is pass your test. They do have New Grad positions, which are the internships. Mayo opens in May aorund the 30th. Flagler has one as well. Baptist south is full right now as far as new grad go. Good luck and PM if you have any more questions.

How long have you been job searching?
For about 2 weeks and I am tired. I finally talked to one person. Don't give up, a door will open.
-
How do I word this on my resume?
I would be very careful on putting it on your resume and not being accepted or in the program. If they called the staff at the school it could be seen as false information. I would not put it on until after you got accepted.

Best NCLEX Review Audio?
You will like the Hurst, she is funny and a very great teacher. Her videos are very informational and if you don't pass on your 1st time you get 75% of your money back. I used hurst to study as well as the kaplan book and ?'s trainers via slide share and I passed. Make your own flash cards and repeat her lectures out loud and you'll so fine.

NCLEX-RN Exam on April 2011, need motivation?
Hello fellow April test takers. I took my test on the 7th and got the good pop up a few hours later. I paid for the quick results and it said I passed. I had 265 ?'s and it was a lot of SATA, infection control, prioritzing and who would you discharge. I stuided NCSBN (which were A LOT like the Nclex), hurst and I did the QT1-7 trainers via slideshare. I did take the exam in the beginning of Feb and failed. So I am living proof that it you know your content, you'll pass even if you get ALL 265! Good luck. PS I prayer everyday and 5 times during the test. I am a believer and I know that God has a plan for me and it was my time. :heartbeat I wish you all the best!

HELP! Pregnant...Should I reschedule NCLEX?
How do you feel about your knwledge level? Do you feel confident? I would say if you put if off until after you have the baby it will be at least 6months. Mostly because you won't get sleep until then. It's not like you can't take it again. Study hard, pass and have a beautiful baby. GL
