  1. 13 days left!! WOOHOOOOOOOOOOO 1 exam, 1 presentation, 1 article review and then the final!!! Is it just me or is this a lot of flippin work for 13 days? Oh well!!! It's almost over!!!! Praise The Lord!!!!!
  2. Hi all, I am anticipating graduation on may 10. More than half of my class is in the danger zone with test averages in the mid 70's. mine is a 74 and 73 is passing. We got our 4th exam back and the instructors omitted 12 questions because if they didn't "no one would be graduating". We've had new instructors each semester and our director is on a leave of absence since January. I am putting forth my best effort but it doesn't seem to be enough. Does anyone have any words of wisdom or similar stories with a successful ending?? I am trying SO hard not to lose hope but the moral of my class is so grim. I score well on kaplan an have been using Saunders for review as well as all the hand outs articles and text material. I am not whining I just could really use some encouragement. I'm in a 2 yr ADN program in New England.
  3. 8 weeks left here too!!! Exciting and terrifying at the same time!!!
  4. Haven't found ANYTHING that has bothered me beside watching ECT. It totally took me by surprise, something in my gut just told me that inducing seizures will not be my line of work it was SO creepy
  5. I'm a phlebotomist and in my experience I often see nurses pulling back too forcefully on the syringe when obtaining blood from an IV stick, especially if its a small gauge anywhere other than the AC. As for the lab screwing with ur specimens... Why would they do that it just makes more work for them, not to mention the smallest amount of hemolysis will falsely elevate the K. I think it is a no brainer to get blood from an IV stick but if its not an easy stick or the blood return was sluggish you might as well have the phleb come because u will get the results faster than waiting for the lab to reject the spec and then have them come up and stick them anyway.
  6. I think that if you know it has been dislodged you would stop the pump if it was running and you would need an X-ray to see where it was and then it would need to be adjusted accordingly by a picc nurse or someone qualified to tinker with it? There should be a sign above the bed with measurements of the line so if its questionable you should always measure it, you're supposed to measure it during assessment and document anyway. BUT this is just what I've been taught- I'm a student. Also hospital protocols may vary between institutions.
  7. I'm graduating from a two yr program in may and I'm giving the student speech! Not sure how I will be able to compose myself, lol. And my four year old daughter will be pinning me. I will most likely be a blubbering FOOL!
  8. What he said. And I'm a female.
  9. I deleted my Facebook halfway through second semester and its amazing not knowing every moment of everyone else's life. Frees up a lot of my brain for the finer things in life, like my family. (Not knocking fb just not for me..)
  10. We were always taught to stop the transfusion and assess, and call doc with all information. But I haven't graduated yet so I can't speak as a REAL nurse, yet.
  11. I plan on working a bit, napping a lot, and making up for lost time with my family and friends. Also planning on doing a juice fast to rid my body of all the junk it's accumulated this year. Quitting cigarettes and caffeine (which will require napping and ibuprofen). I can't WAIT.
  12. Without reading all the super long posts here, my two cents is that from experience, some instructors are better/more thorough than others, but ultimately it's your responsibility to absorb the material. I get what you're saying because I've been in your shoes. If you feel that strongly about it and u have classmates that do as well, take it to the instructor. I've learned that if I'm just not getting it in the classroom, I peruse the Internet and YouTube and usually that helps. Good luck! The semester is almost over!
  13. Fill a gallon sized zip loc bag with lots of sauce and hamburger? Hah. That's all I think of when looking at placentas
