How are you preparing?
I also quit my job, used the summer to find quick, but nutritional meals, researched healthy snacks, tried to lose weight by implementing some type of daily physical activity, and worked on strengthening my faith. My husband and I also looked for ways to save money, by changing our cell phone plan and our satellite TV plan. My husband was able to change his work schedule to be home earlier on my class and clinical days so that our dogs aren't caged all day. My husband is so good about stepping in on household chores. He doesn't mind cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry. I also made sure I told my family how it would be for me and that they may not hear from me as much, although I will schedule a morning to catch up on calls. My mom tends to call 3-4 times a week. Good luck everyone. It's going to be quite a ride!

The fear just hit me - help :(
Not if they act like adults. :)

The fear just hit me - help :(
AWWW! I wish I knew you in person. Me myself, I honestly don't look at people like that, and I guess I think most other people don't either. What people think about you should not even be anything you worry about. I have seen many nurses who are probably a little heavier than they should be, as well as instructors. I don't know what else to tell you. I hope I brought you a little encouragement?

Schedule in Nursing Program

Are C's really the new A's in nursing school?
Hmm. For me, a C is just not acceptable. I guess I just think I can do better. But, my situation is different from many in that I have no kids at home anymore, and a husband totally willing to fill in on household chores when I can't. I actually had someone tell me a couple of years ago, "when you get into the program, you can forget getting A's." Seriously? Is that a challenge? Haha

Schedule in Nursing Program
I would concur with alovelymother. Apply for student loans and quit your job. When would you eat or sleep? I have a friend who is in a similar situation and decided to use her 410K to live on, and using loans for school. She owns her own home. I hope you can find a good answer for your situation.

Happy I can stand on my soap box and give myself kudos... anonymously
Patting you on the back too. I too loved Patho. I heard all of the horror stories of how hard it was. It was hard, but I studied constantly and also received a 4.0. It made me feel like I could do this nurse thing. Best wishes in your future endeavors. :yelclap:

I am trying so hard to just relax
I know what you mean. I have been reading books for school all summer. Just got all of the syllabi and have been reading all of the first 2-3 weeks reading and jotting notes in the syllabi. I so want to start off on the right foot and not get behind right away. Been walking, trying to find energy making foods, as well as easy nutritional meals so that hubby and I don't fall into the quick and easy meals that are bad for you routine. Ha. Good luck! Mine starts Monday! Yeah!

Any web sites to purchase instead of rent e-textbooks?
I used textbooks.com, but there is also half.com and Barnes and Noble. Oh, and Amazon. All of these places offer new and used books. I did a lot of shopping and got some good deals. Many were cheaper than the college bookstore. I had to really take some time and compare though. A couple of our books we had to buy at the college bookstore because they were bundled with other things, so no way around it. Good luck finding what you need.

Has anyone else..
So many books....Yikes. I have been reading already and I am getting so excited and am so ready to start. Love seeing so many of us are feeling the same emotions.

Feeling overwhelmed with gratitude
I am one that believes that God will use people (not program them cuz that would make us robots) whether they know they are being used or not. Even the not so nice people.

Feeling overwhelmed with gratitude
God always gives us what we need just when we need it! I am so happy for you. :)

People really do ask you for medical advice! Wow...
I worked at a veterinary clinic up until May. A farmer that I know came in and when I told him I would be leaving there to go to school full time to be a nurse, I got an earful all about his "prostrate." It was awesome! LOL

Not too many of "You."
The only person you have to prove anything to is yourself. I can't say that I know where you are coming from because I don't. I am not African American. You just go out there and do your thing like you have been doing. You success will be a testament to Your hard work. Congratulations and the very best of wishes. :)

Nursing program starts Aug 27th and I'm not prepared!!!
Aww! I would be stressed too. And as far as venting, this is the best place. Dusky Jewel..I am very glad you have an awesome husband. Mine is great too, and he understands what I need to do, however, its_meee is only venting about hers and has every right too. What you did wasn't very appropriate or nice. She even tried to apologize and you couldn't let it go. Mean, just mean.

Students- would having a 'big brother/ sister' be of any use to you?
I am going to be a student this fall. I knew 3-4 who started the program last year. Our school does not have a program like that, but I did ask my friends a lot of questions, and they have been a tremendous help. I think it would be really great to have that in any school. Many of us don't know what to expect, and having an experienced student would help to keep the "boogey man" at bay, I do believe.

Class Times
Ours were scheduled for us. I have class 5 days a week for 8 weeks, 4 days the rest of the semester. I also was a little surprised because we were all told we only will be going 4 days a week. But they also told us to be flexible. Nursing school! Oy vey!

What are you going to miss the most...
My daily nap. Haha

Jury Duty and Nursing School
I have only been summoned to serve once, and was dismissed the first day. But when I received the summons, there was a form to fill out if your were unable to serve. It seemed pretty straight forward to me. I am terrified of being summoned to serve on a federal jury. I heard they don't care what your excuse is, and that site is almost 3 hours away from me. Yikes. I won't borrow trouble though. It could never happen.

Nursing school at age 50
Yeah, more people like me! I am 48. I am starting an ADN program this fall. I will be 50 when I graduate. Loved the prereq's. People came to me for advice on how to study better because I was getting A's in all my classes. (I am sure that will change. :/) Go for it! Us older gals make great students, we have already seen all types of people. Good luck!

Anyone else feel this way?
I am also nervous, but I am very determined! I am 48 and I feel it is now or never. Good luck, everyone! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil. 4:13
