  1. Thanks for all the advice! I wound up choosing the PCU and start on Monday!
  2. Wait, what? You get points for those random assignments? I am reading this thread for some study tips because I have trouble focusing sometimes, now I just feel cheated!! If only I could convince the instructors at my college to give us points....
  3. Looking for any kind of advice on this subject. If you are working or have worked in either of these units, what kind of patients do you normally see?
  4. I went to an interview recently for a patient care tech position and was offered my choice of working on the CCU or PCU. I am a nursing student and I am wondering which unit would I learn or benefit the most from? I know I won't be actually doing anything but cna type stuff, but she did mention I will have the opportunity to learn as much as I want while working on the unit I choose.
  5. I had this same idea before starting nursing school 3 weeks ago and it seemed like a good idea at the time. I'm glad I never actually pursued the idea because I definitely don't have time for that! If you haven't started NS yet, then it can't hurt. Anything you can add to a resume later can help. I'm not sure what the hospitals in your area let people do when they volunteer, but I don't think there is much patient interaction involved. You could just try it and see if you think it would benefit you.
  6. Oh that's good! Well I'll tell you what they told me... It all depends How many people apply, and what their scores are. The 100ish (idk exact amount they accept for each program) people with the highest scores get in. Usually the spring semester is less competitive than the fall. Good luck! Well just finished week 3. Made a 90 on our first test we had today, so it's good! Lol. The instructors are nice and helpful. They are all about wanting you to succeed, not scaring you out of the program. Which btw... At orientation and the first few days, all the information that gets thrown at you scares you enough, so they don't have to... Haha.
  7. You can get an iPad 2 refurbished at GameStop for around 360$. I got one and it looks and runs exactly like a new one does. I absolutely love it! It's so light compared to my laptop!
  8. http://calhoun.edu/programs_of_study/division_of_health/nursing_program.aspx That is a link to the nursing page. The cutoff date to apply is September 14th. Only 2 weeks from now. You need to apply, get transcripts sent ( if schools allow it can be faster to carry an unopened official copy to Calhoun), and have teas score sent. There might be some other stuff so really you should read all the info on the nursing page. Have you started any of this yet? If not you might not get it done in time! Ive just started my first semester there!
  9. I just bought one from ebags and its one of the bigger ones I've seen. I absolutely love it and couldn't do nursing school without it! Im 22 and i don't know why someone wouldn't want to have one when you have so many books! Atleast half of the students in NS where i go use one. This is the one I've bought. for some reason the picture makes it look a lot smaller than it is. . http://www.ebags.com/product/high-sierra/powerglide/148966?productid=10178185
  10. Ha. When I bought my med surg book last week, I couldn't help but laugh. If its that big of a book and titled 'introduction' to med surg, I'm scared to see what the rest of the books related to it are like! I start on Monday....so excited!
  11. Yes! I did exactly this. On Monday I went and picked up my long list of books, got home and laid them all out and thought...'seriously! What have I done?' I still know this is what I want to do, but looking through all my books just kind of freaked me out! Also, I found it hilarious that one of the biggest books I've ever seen in my life is called, 'Introduction to medsurg' Just the introduction? How big are the rest of them? Haha.
  12. Well I was starting to feel better, but then I went today and bought all the books I need for the first semester. (12 books for 3 classes!!) haha! So i started looking through them and I am feeling so overwhelmed! I know (or hope) everything will fall into place once school starts.
  13. GameStop started selling used apple products and they are guaranteed to work. I recently bought an iPad 2 from there and it's in perfect condition. You can find a 2nd or 3rd generation iPod touch for a decent price!
  14. I will miss my free time in general... And being able to procrastinate!! Can't do that while in nursing school. Also not having to stress over studying this summer has been nice... That will all go away on August 20th!! I think I'm okay with it though. It will be worth it.
  15. Look into finding a babysitting job. I Signed up for care.com a year ago and found a great job that works perfectly with my school schedule. I even get time to study when the kids are busy playing and watching tv.
