  1. I started the bridge program on Nov 7th and originally I had ap1 online and the computers for nurses online but within the first week I couldnt handle the online ap so I switched back to the ground class and Im glad I did!!! The computer class is ok just alot of busy work!
  2. Yes Yes Yes buy the study guide! I liked the cd that comes with it and thats what i used. I scheduled my test the same day of my tour for the following month. I studied 1 section a day and completed the practice test. The test is similar to the study guide Good luck
  3. I work in a rehab hospital and as an LPN the normal use to be 1:6 with room for admissions and it was the same for RNs but within the past 2years they don't allow LPNs to do admissions so now LPNs 1:7(mostly 8 max) and RNs 1:6(short staffed 7) it was much better for RNs and LPNs when we were staffed better. There has been an increase in med errors and alot of nurses gave notice because its becoming worse.
  4. Apply everywhere!!! I was almost at my breaking point and was accepted. I'm driving 45mins to school but its better than waiting years to get into a program! What area do you live near?
  5. 100% Right! I only used the book and the CD and the study guide matched the test exactly!
  6. Don't feel bad at all! I had the same problem and I ended up paying out of state tuition for the class and that really made me bust my behind! The first time I took the class I had a family emergency so I failed. The second time I wasnt focused. The third time I studied and studied and passed You will be fine
  7. I will be starting the bridge program in november and was planning on taking some of the classes offered online, does anybody else plan on doing this or have any info?
  8. mma7, I was wondering how much do you know about the online classes? I plan on taking some online for quarter 1, and I cant really find anyone who has? What about you?
  9. Trying to decided if taking online classes at galen is right for me? Ive taken previous classes like nutrition and sociology online and really loved it! So im debating on taking Ap 1 and math with galen? Has anyone taking classes or have any feedback? Any information would be helpful. :heartbeat
  10. School comes first! Becoming an RN will open better career paths for you. This is just my opinion and I was put in this same spot a couple of months ago and I made the decison that the RN was my goal. I hope this helps, its worth the fight
  11. Great post question! I was wondering the same thing? I was afraid try the online because of the clinical aspect? I wasn't sure if I have enough LPN experience to walk into RN clinicals and be expected to perform? :twocents:
  12. ]Hello to all that will be starting Galen's Nursing program in November! I know it's early but I would like to see how many of us will be starting our nursing journey together. I will be starting the LPN-RN bridge and driving from SARASOTA! Good luck to everyone ]
  13. My hospital pays for BLS and time, ACLS I have to pay for but they pay for my time
  14. I know it sounds silly of me to say but dont beat yourself up! I had to retake a math class three times and I finally said I WILL BEAT THIS! I honestly hate math but I just sucked it up and passed the class with an A! You can do it
  15. Ive been doing weekends for about 2years and slowly Im starting to not like it. It was fine when I only had one child and she's older but Im starting to miss things with my son. Its hard to find people to switch days because nobody wants to work 12hr on the weekend. However it does allow me to spend the week days with my kids doing homework and other things. Next year I will be coming off of weekends. The extra weekend shift diff is helpful. :twocents:
  16. Nursing school is very tough and not easy. Its hard and your life stops from the moment of the first class. This is why it took so long for me to decide if I wanted to return to school and have my life stop. The first time I did it I only had one child and wasnt married. The "in" crowd of nursing programs happen everywhere. I had one friend the whole time in my LPN program. Just breathe and just know it will be this way up until the end. Thank you for posting your first week experience.
  17. I will admit it's hard at times to deal with the different accents. For me what I've found is if Im giving report or receiving report I try to make sure that it's not rushed. The extra time could help. I couldnt even imagine how it feels to have english as a second language then dealing with medical language. This issue will not go away. Patience would be a great start. Just my opinion
  18. News travels around on which facility is "bad news" Im so excited that you were hired and no stress was placed to explain previous employment! :yeah:
  19. I second that! Yow will always wonder what if. Plus having your foot in the door is awesome
  20. Have you considered trying Galen?
  21. Good luck and I hope you get the job! Dont be bummed just wait and see!
  22. I just picked up a job at a local LTC and the ADON not once looked at the application The questions were based on nursing experience and what was I looking for with their company. I hope the same happens to you and this issue never comes up and you're hired Good luck!
  23. At first I loved 12's because it allows me to attend school and not worry about scheduling. However when I finish school and get RN experience under my belt....... I will be switching to 8hrs. When I am off the first day is spent relaxing/cleaning then spending time with family and reading. Our hospital used to have 4,8,12 hr shifts which WAS good because when I was off from school I would pick up smaller shifts.
  24. Ive been trying very hard to stock up on money, starting a prn job and working 2days per pay period, downsized on my bills that I could lol! Anything else??
  25. Hello everyone! I jsut wanted some feedback on this because it has been awhile since I've been in school. I start the LPN-RN Bridge program in November and I wasn't sure if there were things I should stock up on before the program starts? My hours will drop down to 24hours a week and I would like if there's a such thing to be prepared before it starts. Any suggestions would be great!
