  1. What is the question?
  2. An experience is an experience. There's no point to lying because they will all come up with your background check. I would suggest to try applying to the really small community acute care hospitals. They are better at giving you a chance to work. However, they will certainly will pay way less academic hospitals do but it's your ticket in!
  3. 😁 be patient.
  4. 1.75 more per hour with exam fee reimbursement
  5. The exit exam just assures the school the likelihood or chance of a student of passing the NCLEX. However, if a student does not pass the exit exam the school will not consider he/she as graduate of the program but you'll be eligible providing you've met the other requirements
  6. The importance in taking test in nursing analysis and application of a theory or a procedure. Nursing is very subjective and each nurse have their own beliefs on what works. Just remember, in the NCLEX world everything is possible with unlimited which is not true in the real world.
  7. Unless you have a DKA then you check glucose q1hr. But the general rule is to check achs with PO patient. Or on tube feeds then every 6hrs
  8. Tacomaster If your end goal is to be in nursing administration then I would say to pursue it. I will believe in putting in hard work now to secure a future. To be blunt, don't mind the haters. You do it for yourself. People will always discourage you because they cannot do it themselves. A Masters degree is an undertaking.
  9. They pay 400 dollars for initial cert plus 1.75 extra with my base pay.
  10. I completed the program August 2012. It just takes a lot of time writing research papers every week for 2 years. The opportunities it gave me after the program were endless.
  11. Hi lilcampy Assuming you've worked one year at 36 hours per week will equal 1728 hours. Eligibility requirements for the CCRN is 1750 hours. You are most likely eligible to sit for the exam.
  12. All I can say is to pace yourself. 12 hours is really not that long if youre busy.
  13. I usually would use a tuberculin syringe and put it in their deltoid or buttocks.
  14. That's great! It's all about finding your niche and what your comfortable with. :)
  15. I will assume that you're an LPN. If you're single, you can try to work both at the same time. It's doable. I managed to work full time and go to school full time.
  16. 1. You can use either one of the ports. I have found that its easier to get blood from the white port. (Maybe it's a preference) 2. You don't have to take off the injection caps also known as "deadheads" when drawing blood unless it is ordered for blood culture through a picc line. Again, this would depend on your hospital policy. 3. First step is to flush the picc line with 10ml NS. Then, withdraw 3-5ml of blood to waste. Obtain a 10ml syringe and fill it up (or depending how much the lab personnel needs. Usually, 10 ml is sufficient). Then flush the port with 10ml saline again so the blood doesn't clot on the line.
  17. @crazyRN I had my ADN in 2009 and MSN in 2012.
  18. I would say go for the MSN since you have a prior BA. It took me 4 years to land a hospital job after my ADN. It was only after I completed my MSN that's job offers were pouring in.
  19. Have you tried taking a sleeping pill after you get off work? So you can sleep. Darkened room? It's probably going to be hard to find a job until you reach 2 years.
  20. I agree with both of you. As long as they state that they are a nurse with a doctorate. It should not be a problem at all. It is the future of health care. Primary care will be handed down to NPs such as outpatient care and clinics by 2015/2016.
  21. Our ICU and ER policy is to swab everyone that is admitted for MRSA.
  22. I would say to stick it out. The first year is always harder. From my perspective, new grads are so rigid with procedures that its takes them 2 or 3 times as long to do something. Learn how to safely cut corners :). It is the only way to complete so many tasks on time :).
  23. Oxygen Conversions Room air is 21% oxygen 1L is 24% 2L is 28% 3L is 32% 4L is 36% 5L is 40%
  24. There are many different pathways for an MSN so you have to find what you love doing on a daily basis. There is nursing admin, informatics, NP, CNS, CRNA, nursing education, and many others.
