Travel Nursing is it as good as it seems
Hello all travel nurses, I have a bunch of questions regarding travel nursing and I am seeking some answers from those who have had travel nursing experiences. I am an Operating room rn in minnesota and am tired of traveling 120 round trip a day to work and figure it would be best if I am traveling every day to take advantage of traveling since I am already doing it but not reaping the so called rewards of travel nursing. I am seeking to stay relatively close to home so that I can travel back and forth or stay for a day or two away from home and then come home. Can someone tell me are there opportunities to work as an operating room nurse in minnesota? Also what is the best travel company out there that would be able to keep me working and offer the best pay? There are so many companies out there and it is very confusing as to what ones are the best. Any information would be helpful.

RN to BSN or RN to MSN
I am a new nurse and am struggling to find a job without further education and am hoping someone can help. I switched careers when I lost my job in 2009 and went back to receive my ADN RN in 2012. Since receiving my RN I have been applying for jobs but seems that unless I have a BSN I am not even being considered. So I figure I should return to obtain my BSN, my problem is that I have a Bachelors of Arts degree and as I research options I see that I can go right for my MSN because I already have a bachelors degree. I am concerned that if I get my MSN instead of BSN I would be overlooked because I may be over qualified. At this point in my life I don't foresee looking for jobs that require an MSN only BSN however I don't want to kick myself in the future for not getting my MSN. According to most of the schools I have looked at the MSN is only 3 more courses. Any suggestions? RN to BSN or RN to MSN?

Med/Surg vs. Cardiac Stepdown?
I am in desperate need of some advice. I am a recent RN graduate, taking boards in June 2012, and have been offered two different positions at the same medical center and really don't know which one to choose. I have been offered a Med/Surg position that has rotating shifts, ie 6 weeks on days 6 weeks on nights 12 hour shifts; and a Cardiac Stepdown position that is strictly nights 12 hour shifts. I am a mother of two young children, 5 year old and 19 month old, and a wife. I am trying to figure out which would be the best for me, my family, and experience wise. I have always been told that med/surg is where to start because that is where you learn skills and have a variety. My dream is to become a ED or trauma nurse; so I know that cardiac would also be great too. I am not sure what to choose and don't want to get stuck in a position I will regret, either by not liking it or get "burned" in the future because of experience, ie being to specialized. Any and all advice is welcomed, I have to notify the facility of my decision tomorrow. Thanks to all!
