  1. As a manager before I officially start an interview I’m clear on which shift I’m hiring for! My facility doesn’t support a “bait and switch” philosophy! I would find another position, this manager lacks veracity and a respect for autonomy! Run as fast as you can!
  2. Hello, I quit Medilodge back in April but as far as I know they were not hiring new lpn's. Martha T Berry is hiring lpn's and I believe the starting rate is about 22/hr for full time employment. You can access their website here http://www.macombcountymi.gov/marthatberry/index.htm Good luck!!
  3. You are a lucky individual!!
  4. I love the Wink brand! They run about 20 bucks per piece, but the pockets are AMAZING!! I can load them with all my essential tools and they never look bulky! I bought Iguana med as well, but wink is definitely my new favorite! They also wash up nicely, I hang them up to dry and they have yet to fade :)
  5. I have basic membership so I can't reply to PM:mad: The pt to nurse ratio can be as great as 34:1. I'm fairly new, graduated in Aug, started there in Nov. On my last unit it took me a few weeks to learn my residents so it took me up to 4hrs to pass meds. On my new unit I have to learn the residents all over so I'm passing meds for 2-3 hrs somedays b/c residents are more independent on this unit. I like the fact that management is very accessible however I do feel like I'm not learning a thing, thinking is not encouraged on most units. I was taught to "think before doing" at this place its more task oriented. I'm still actively applying to other facilities. I'm working here because the hospital jobs that are close to my home require at least one years experience. The shifts are as follows 7-3p, 3-11p and 11p7a for 8hr RN's. 7a-7p, 7p-7a for 12 hr nurses. I don't believe they are currently seeking day staff. Another downside is that you cannot have any type of electrical device. And resources are scarce or outdated. Management has assured us that this is temporary and they will be wireless and updated by August. There is a huge turn around for RN's there b/c in my opinion and many others your growth is stunted. Upside, if you have no experience and you need a job with steady good pay until you find your desired position go for it. Benefits are based on the "cafe plan", the copays and out of pocket are quite expensive to me. It's a complicated formula that the benefits rep will have to explain to you. I hope that I answered all of your questions.
  6. Update...as of Jan 24, Medilodge is now hiring new RN's at 30/hr & 31/hr for nurses with previous LTC experience.
  7. We cannot use any type of electronic device in my facility. It leaves me at a total disadvantage because I love using resources. It makes no sense to me but the powers that be strongly enforce this rule. Hopefully things will change because I'm about ready to quit.
  8. I bought my books from amazon. I'm not an advocate of credit cards but i got their visa card b/c of the rewards. You get 25$ gift card for every 2500 points and the good thing is that amazon sells everything. Also if you enter you campus email you get amazon prime for free. This means free 2 day shipping on lots of items. Good luck :)
  9. Don't fret! I found my job on craigslist! I graduated in August and I was at wits end so I went the nonconventional way. I have a job at a skilled nursing facility, not my first choice, but the pay is good and it's close to my home. Don't give up, I'm praying for you :)
  10. My friend who is a BSN graduate just started there in the ICU, she says the pay is excellent and the campus is beautiful! Orientation is also very generous and they have a 1:1 ratio!
  11. Absolutely! Sorry about that. I'm at the Medilodge of Sterling Heights. I also heard that Clinton Aire is hiring, I believe they're located on 17 mile road, not sure of the cross streets. I applied for Medilodge on Craigslist believe it or not and they called me a week later. You can also walk in and fill out an application. Nursing homes seem to be hungry for RN's. They have a lot of LPN's employed there. Good luck!
  12. I gave up on the hospital and I found a nursing facility five miles from my home. My starting pay was 27 an hour. They don't give differentials. I just got my first paycheck and I got a 100 dollar bonus and a Meijer giftcard. I wasn't expecting that. The downside is that some units are extremely disorganized. Hopefully I can secure employment elsewhere after I get my experience. Good luck!
  13. I know exactly how you feel! Oh the self loathing and feelings of inadequacy. The endless chain of rejection responses to the jobs that you are qualified for if only given one chance, at least one interview. THAT'S I ASK!!! Yep, that was me for 6 months and then I tried something totally unconventional. I had to accept the fact that maybe the hospital was not for me. So I browsed Craigslist in the medical/ health job postings section. Well low and behold a well known nursing facility just 4 miles away from my home and paying me 4 dollars more than the hospital job that I coveted has hired me. I start on Nov 29th and I'm so excited!! Fulltime, with benefits, AMEN! God does have something good in store for you, just search outside the box. A nursing facility wasn't my first choice, however I am going to use this as a stepping stone and it is after all helping me to gain experience towards that one year experience goal. I'm totally keeping an opened mind, this may become my home. I don't know what God has in store for me. Don't give up and you are in my prayers :yeah::yeah:
  14. These are actually cute to me! And if they're comfortable; double bonus :)
  15. You can do it!!! I'm testing Monday at 8 am and I've been prepping since I graduated in August. I've been constantly praying! I took Kaplan (did EVERY question), I bought Saunders, ExamCram and I've been utilizing the free Exam masters website University of Texas Medical Branch - Nursing I've done everything humanly possible. The only thing left for me and for you to do is have faith and believe in ourselves. You're going to pass. I'm praying for you :)
