please tell me it is
I am almost done with my first year as RN on a med/surg floor. I work nights and some mornings are so crazy. When I get home, sometimes I remember something I didn't do and can not sleep for days because of it. I had a problem with a pump the other night so I free flowed it waiting for a new pump to come. I left in the morning having forgot to hook up the new pump. I dread seeing the nurse who replaced me. I have lost serious sleep over this. I stress over everything, my great marriage of almost 20 years is suffering because of my stress. I need a less stressful job. I went into nursing for mother/baby but felt med surg would be good. Is mother baby less stressful, not L & D, but mother baby? Please, someone tell me it is.

med surg to ob please
I am an RN and I just completed one long year on crazy med/surg floor. Is l&d and mother baby less stressful? Please tell me it is. I would like to make a move there. Mother baby is why I became a nurse, but felt it would be benefitial to do the med/surg thing first. I am tired of the stress.

I have a Littman SE which is great, but for fun I got an Ultrascope--love it.

Can you be a good RN with a bad memory??
I have one year to go in school for my RN. I am really worried about having an incredibly bad memory. I am doing OK in school, but after a test, I tell you, the info is GONE. I can know certain meds inside and out for a test, then poof!! I can't remember a thing. I can't remember how the heart works even, it's crazy. I am not worried about skills that much or basic pt care, but when someone asks me about something specific, even if I have covered it in school, yikes, I am at a loss for words. I wonder about assessing ( ?? can't remember how to spell it ). Sometimes I doubt being able to be a really good nurse with a poor memory. When my youngest was 3 I planned a vacation around her birthday, I HAD THE WRONG DATE. I was 3 days off.:chuckle

jr in high school: Associates VS BSN?
If you were my daughter, I would say "go for the BSN". I'm doing the ADN thing because I had conflicts with day care issues and I am old. With pre-reqs, it will have taken me 4 1/2years for ADN. If you do the BSN, you won't regret it. Good Luck:)

too little to be a nurse?
Grass is always greener, I know, but I'm 6 foot and my back always hurts from leaning over. I wonder if shorter people have less injurys at work??

Depression amoung OR nurses after organ harvesting
My father felt very strongly about wanting to be a donor. At 63 he had a major CVA. I don't think people realize how hard it is to say goodbye when machines are still going beep, beep, beep. We have received letters about people who received organs. It's hard.

Aaaaaaaaaagh!!!!!
Just returned for the gyn with my 16yo daughter. She has the world's worst menstral cramps. She actually passed out yesterday from pain. The day before and the day she starts she pretty much lays on the floor in a ball and cries. I went with my daughter back to the exam room and the woman (whatever she was was) was NASTY. When she told my daughter to remove her tampon and undress, I simply said very calmly "we would just like to speak to the Dr." I didn't think it was necessary to be examined. (daughter had exam and sono months before, she was taking Naproxen and bled for 45 days) anyways the woman went ballistic, CALM DOWN, she says. I was calm. She goes and tells the Dr something and the lady Doc comes in to us with an attitude because of what the wacky woman must of said to her. Doc says why don't you take advil or aleve. aaaaagh!!! I would NEVER have taken her there if it was that simple. She passed out at school yesterday from pain. (not blood loss) Doc put her on the pill. I pray it helps, but I could cringe from the thought of my daughter on the pill. She has never had a boyfriend even. Sorry for the rant. Does anyone think it will help????

Finger Nail ripped clean off, question please.
My 14 yo son dropped a 70 lb hand weight on his hand and his nail was ripped off tearing his cuticle way back. Should it be allowed to dry out, or keep it covered with antibiotic cream and bandage? Thank you.

I pinch up when the person is very thin. Just did a flu clinic. Somepeople are very thin and you must really pinch up so you don't hit bone. I love giving shots.

New mom applied to nursing school
Hi, I know how hard it is to decide. After my 3rd child I started taking the pre-reqs VERY SLOWLY. I took 1 or 2 classes at a time, online if possible (online is GREAT). My youngest started Kindergarten this week, I started the RN program this week also. I had little pressure or guilt, I missed nothing with her and it is great to have all the electives done. It's a hard decision, follow your heart.:)

Need bee sting help please!!!
2 weeks ago, my 40 pound 4 year old was stung over 11 times. She was with several other children who were also stung. There were bee's in her hair and clothing. It was CRAZZZY!!! Ambulances came and took 4 of the children to the hospital. I had already given her a chewable benadry one of the other mothers had. They watched her and I was told to give her benadryl's for 24 hours. Thank God, none of the children had reactions. I hope your child is OK. I always have benadryl on hand now.:)

Glasses ???
Someone suggested getting glasses. I do not wear them. Does anyone think that buying non-perscription glasses is needed? I was told that it elliminates needed safety glasses and they can be worn all the time as a precaution. Is it worth the money? Is it a good idea??

Need gift ideas for soon to be mom...
Getting the TODDLER something that will occupy him or her is a great help. DVD's or something like that. A baby doll is great even if the toddler is a boy. They have great baby boy dolls. A new "family" picture frame is a nice gift. Good luck!!:)

attention tall nurses!
http://store.yahoo.com/allheart/ch190.html These are pretty long, fit like they have a 35 inch inseam. I thought the Barco's 'talls' were not very tall, FLOODS!!:) Good luck.

attention tall nurses!
Hi, I can relate. I am 6' ft. I ordered many tall brands on-line, spent alot to return them. Finally, I went down to a uniform store and tried on MANY pairs of pants. Finally I found a some. G.A.L.S. of california and a Cherokee pair. I had ordered Cherokee on-line in talls, but they were too short. It's a crazy world out there!!:) JCPenney carries ultra tall, can be quite high waisted though.

Help Feels like ice water
- Help Feels like ice water
- Help Feels like ice water
This is too frustrating. My mom is only 60, so dizzy and ringing in ears went to ER. Found out she has diabetes(went on special diet). Continues to be very weird spacey (dizzy) off and on , turns white and then red and says often her arms and legs feel like ice water is running through her veins. Doc's say not Meniere's or vertigo and not related to diabetes. EKG and CAT are normal. Heart is fine. BP is fine. She went from super young and active to in the house, lost 20pounds and verrrrry frustrated. ?????????????? ( what's worse is that she lives about 800 miles away from me) What should her next step be? Thank you for any suggestions.- Microbiology in Dallas
Micro is NUTTY!! I had all A's til micro. I was soooo happy with a B+. It is interesting though. :) Try your best to get a good teacher. Everything you learn in lab and class you can find on the internet, so just keep looking till you find it worded in a way that clicks for you. It's crazy how the teacher you have can make or break you. Good luck!!!!!- For those getting ready to go into a nursing program this fall...
My nurses said I was crazy. I said "thanks". I am getting tired of hearing neg comments. Some people are great though. Good luck to you!:) - Help Feels like ice water
