I quit my job to go to nursing school and have never looked back! I'm having so much fun. Nothing like working and being chained to a desk for 12 years that makes you appreciate time off and going back to school! Good luck!

This may sound goofy, but I found a huge book at B&N called Wall Chart of Human Anatomy...3D Full-Body Images and Detailed Systems Charts. It was only $8. I have it hung up on my bedroom wall, right in front of my treadmill.

Yeah, I googled it and saw it in several different color frames. You're right, it's very cool!! If I ever see one, I'll snatch it up!

Me too! Before I was a nursing student, I would always see groups of them on campus standing around, and of course, there are only like 2 benches for 20 students. A few of us will have our own seats, now.

Yay, congrats! People can say what they will, but seeing these bags in person, and pulling them with books in them is a dream. And yes, they're going to last a long time! I'll have my bag long after school is over, and I'll travel with it. My frame is black, too. And my Rebel (dark purple) insert was about as "wild" as I could bring myself to go. But I also have a friend with the aqua and brown, and you're right, it's super cute! I may branch out. Lol

Me too. The CC I attend has graduated 6 classes since the beginning of their program and have had a 100% NCLEX-RN passage rate since the beginning. It's a very competitive program. I could have gotten into any school I applied to. I chose to apply to only 1 school. I'm not sure where Veranda ever heard that a BSN is more "prestigious". Around here, all you ever hear is that an RN is an RN, unless you want to be a nurse manager. Don't get me wrong, I find it highly believable that in this economy, BSNs are getting the jobs, but that is such a temporary thing. I'm not worried about it in the least.

Your post about druggies and unwed mothers being the only ones going for their ADNs was offensive. What do you expect?

I bought all my books on Amazon for $398. The bookstore price was $648. I'd always shop elsewhere before buying from the bookstore at school.

Besides, anything worth having takes some effort to get. Becoming a nurse is an accomplishment! Who would feel proud about becoming a nurse if it were easy?

If you're halfway willing to wait until January anyway, then what do you have to lose? Go ahead and apply!

Are you doomed with an A and 2 Bs? No! So you have 4 classes left? If you wind up with mostly Bs in those, you may not get in. Every school is different, and it depends on the quality/grades of your fellow applicants. If you get all As in those 4 classes, and a good grade on your entrance exam, I'd say you're probably golden! Just do your best in your remaining classes.

Statistics is about the probability of ___________ occurring, or a odds against or for ____________. Taking a set of numbers (data set) and using them to find about 20 different numbers that are mostly some sort of "average". I hated stats. That's great that you get a choice! I had to take both. Had I gotten a choice, I'd take College Algebra any day!

I think you can easily do that. Some states require you to be a CNA before you can apply to an RN program. Go for it!

My school is up front about it. They let you know that students who take their pre-reqs there, get picked first. It has caused a good bit of bitterness though b/c students who have applied with 3.8 GPAs and 90% and above on the HESI can't get in.

I studied the "correct" study guide, and it didn't really help me much. It helped with the math, but I would think any study guide would be helpful in studying for the math portion. As for the other sections, nothing I studied was on the exam. It didn't matter anyway, I still made a 95%. I didn't find it difficult at all. Good luck!

At the CC I attend, GPA, HESI exam score, and where you took your pre-reqs (they take their own students first) are the 3 main criteria they look at. I haven't heard of anyone getting in with less than a 3.4 GPA, and around a 90% on the HESI.

A friend of mine is currently taking her prerequisites at a school in North Carolina. They are given 5 points for each pre-req they take, up to a certain amount, regardless of the grade in that class, as long as it's passing. Then the other points come from taking the TEAS. The thing I don't understand is how a person with all Cs in their pre-reqs and a person with all As in their pre-reqs are given the same number of points for those classes. That doesn't seem fair. This is the only program I've seen where by GPA doesn't matter. Anyone else applying to a program like that? So basically, does her getting in all boil down to what she gets on the TEAS?

To apply to the nursing program at my school, you have to have a 2.8 GPA in 5 pre-reqs, and a 75% on the HESI A2 exam. However, they take the top 60 applicants, out of 400, so you really need a minimum of around a 3.4 GPA, and a 90% on the HESI, depending, of course, on the other applicants that apply with you.

I just ordered my books tonight. As soon as they come in, I'm going to start reading!

I just ordered all my first semester books from Amazon, and saved about $250 from the school's bookstore prices. :hpygrp:

Yeah, I am a non-traditional student and my GPA from 14 years ago was horrible. Luckily, the school I started two years ago has a repeat/delete policy, so I was able to retake everything I already had, and now I have a 4.0. I realize that for some, that seems like a waste of time and money, for it was the right choice for me.
