I graduated in May and I am having trouble finding any job, let alone a NICU position. I recently applied to a New Grad Endoscopy position, but I am wondering if that would hinder me from getting into the NICU in the future? I am open to any unit, I just want to get my one year of experience and move to NICU as soon as I can. Should I turn down the endoscopy position or take it because there isn't much else?

Has anyone registered with myClinicalExchange? Do you know what cohort we are in? I am assuming RN EVE - 4162, but I just want to be sure! :)

I took Chemistry in high school so that counts for the RN, but the BSN wants CHM130. :)

I have all of my titers, tests and my physical done. I just need one more Hep B immunization in August. I signed up for classes a couple of weeks ago and picked up my tote bag while I was down there. I still need to sign up for My Clinical Exchange and Certified Profile and upload my documents. I am taking PSY230 and PSY240 online this summer to get my mind of the waiting lol. I just need CHM130 and a humanities for the NAU pre-reqs to do the NAU Mid-AAS RN to BSN program. I am taking CHM 130 online through Phoenix college this fall and I will get that last humanities done in the spring. So excited to get started!!

I was also placed in the evening program at Gateway. I am going to try to do the mid-AAS BSN through NAU. I am just waiting on one County to respond for my background check. I hope they said more information soon! I still need some vaccinations and the physical.

They said we had until April 14th to respond, so probably around then. ☺

I also just received my acceptance email for the Gateway Evening Program! I can't remember what my exact time stamp was, but I think it was 060415. I deferred in the spring in hopes of getting the evening program! I am so excited! 😃

I took the evening class at AMTI during the summer. It wasn't too bad. The equipment seems really old, but it is because they pump so many classes through that it gets a ton of use. I didn't find the class very hard, pretty common sense stuff. As in 80% of the time the answer is tell your nurse. They give you 2 chances to pass each test. If you fail 2 tests and retakes, but continue to keep coming to class they will let you take the next class for free. There were a couple of people in my class that struggled through the whole course. They didn't fail 2 retakes, but the school felt they wouldn't pass boards so they wouldn't let them take them. That's how they keep their pass rates so high. The instructor was kind of weird, but he was nice and took the time to make sure you got everything right. They will keep you for the entire length of the class, even if you finish up early because there are a set number of in person hours you need for state boards. I took boards in August and passed the first time. It is helpful to practice in the rooms that you will actually be tested in because you already know where everything is. I have yet to start actually working as a CNA, but that is because I haven't really been looking. Lol. AMTI was by far the cheapest and fastest option to get the CNA. I would probably go there again to get my CNA.

Thank you for the ideas! I didn't even think of an Amazon gift card. That is a great suggestion. I ended up having to defer this semester... My family and I weren't expecting to be placed so quickly and we weren't fully prepared for me to quit my job so soon. It sucked submitting the deferment, but it gives me a little extra time to prepare. I have a hard time hearing (many ear infections as a kid) so I will definitely look into that stethoscope. Thanks again! :)

Hi everyone! My timestamp was 06/05/2015 08:03:04 and SCC was my second choice. I honestly wasn't expecting to get placed in the first round. Anyway, what are some must haves for nursing school? I was thinking of asking for a stethoscope, BP cuff, and obviously money from my family for Christmas. Any and all ideas are welcome! And congrats to everyone else that was placed today!! :)

I start volunteering in the NICU on September 11, and I am finishing up my last pre-req before applying to nursing school. At the hospital I will be volunteering in I am pretty sure that I will only be answering phones and letting family members into the NICU. But I am super excited to even be doing these things there.... I really want to be a NICU nurse after I graduate and with the waiting list to even get in to school at around 2.5 years I think that volunteering that long might give me an edge.....but who knows!

Do you by chance know how long it takes to become an in county resident? Looks like I need to talk my family into moving to Dallas.... :)

Hi, I live in Arizona, and I was wondering how long it took from the time you applied to nursing school until the time you got accepted? At the schools in AZ the wait is two years after you apply. My step-mom is a nurse in Dallas and I am maybe thinking of moving to TX to go to nursing school if the wait isn't as long as it is here. Thanks!

I am 25 and I have a four year old and I work full time. I recently decided that I wanted to go into nursing...instead of accounting where I am. This fall I take A&PI, which is my last pre-req before applying to nursing school! I wish that I would have stuck with it before, but I kind of feel like I will be more successful this go around because of my daughter. I feel bad because it seems like every moment of freetime I have is spent studying. So today I signed her up for soccer...even though it will be another thing that I have to fit into our busy week, it will be something that is all for her! Good luck with A&P this fall....fingers crossed for an A!

I am going to RIO right now, taking BIO 156 and I hate it. It is the accelerated 8 week class and it is super difficult. I think that cramming 16 weeks of info into 8 weeks makes the class extremely stressful and time consuming. I work full time and have a four year old that is starting to hate the sentence "not right now, I have homework." Also, taking it online feels like I am teaching myself this class. Not really thinking that I will take classes at RIO ever again.... I hope that if I can make it through this class I can make it through nursing school...

I don't have any tips because I'm still trying to get into nursing school, but congrats on getting into the area that you want to be in. I also hope to be a NNP one day too!

Just wanted to share that I am taking this class through RIO right now....and it still sucks....Mid-term is Saturday!

I am in Scottsdale, AZ. I have not taken the Hesi test yet, as I still have some pre-reqs to complete. But I did buy the Admission Assessment Exam Review by Evolve Reach Powered by Hesi. It's all pretty basic stuff, basic math (addition, subtraction, decimals, fractions). There are reading, vocabulary, grammar, biology, chemistry, A&P and physics sections. I only refreshed on the math, reading, vocab and grammar, because at SCC I only have to get 75% on the math & reading sections.
