Just my 2 cents: If you want to repaint, check out the local paint shops, like Sherwin Williams (not Home Depot or Lowes). I know that Sherwin Williams typically have a lot of paint in the back that just aren't the right color for a particular customer but is perfectly fine paint. I used to work in a commercial SW and we had tons of 5 gallon pails that were just a shade off that a contractor couldn't use. We'd either give them away or sell them for like, $5. Also, I think the black and white photo idea is FANTASTIC! Maybe some sepia ones too...I wouldn't do real flowers or anything (fellow allergy sufferer lol).

sorry, didn't mean to pee in your cheerios. i don't think i'm all-knowing whatsoever. the minute you think that is the minute that the fun goes out of life. i just had an opinion that some classes should be taught in person, that's all. i'm "only" a nursing student so i don't claim to know anything of what it's like to be a nurse, and i congratulate anyone who completes their nursing course work. you don't need to be so demeaning or trying to stereotype me into a typical "wanna be" nursing student. that's rude. sorry to offend you--at least i know what to expect if i ever want to make another post on here again. so much for expressing my opinion--obviously it isn't as worthy as yours since i'm not even a nurse myself. thanks for the self-esteem boost.

I'm against nursing classes online, especially Kaplan. I think that if you are going to choose a career like nursing, it should be in person with actual instructors. One would be hard pressed to find anything good about Kaplan on this site if they took 10 minutes to actually do a search on previous posts here. Didn't mean to offend, and didn't mean for someone to try to "delete" my post based on a opinion...not 100% why a premium member would want to delete my post based on my opinion.

I'm sorry, but this topic has really upset me. Why are people trying to do BSN work ONLINE?! Yes, I myself take online classes, but they are World Music and Personal Health, NOT nursing courses! Learning nursing techniques online is the equivalent of learning how to tattoo online--just a bad bad idea. I understand you work home health care, but there have been many before you and many after you that will earn their education in a school, hands-on. I'm sorry, but no matter how well you do in an online course is not a suitable evaluation of how you will do as a nurse, hands-on, in the thick of things.

Our Nursing program is an ADN that's 4 years long, 2 years of it being in the actual Nursing School/Nursing Major. Of those four semesters of NS, a friend of mine was failing the third semester and had to drop out before she completely failed. Luckily for her, there was a spot open the following semester that she was placed in. Since then, she has rocked all of her exams and clinicals with >85%. I think in situations like that it either makes you realize that you don't have the passion for it, or it kicks your butt into motion.

I don't believe this for one second, Meeting sales goals, crummy schedules, full flex schedules (even at part time), rude people (found everywhere, though), responsibility with money, having no job security, no sympathy from employers that you are a student...need I go on. Can you tell I HATE retail? I currently work at a residential facility for the mentally ill and it is awesome. I can study and do homework and since I work 2nd shift, it's easy peasy.

My opinion would be to hand them in personally. If they are too far for you to drop off a resume, why would you want to drive there every day for work? If it's too far to hand in it in, then that would tell me that it's too far for you to come in in general.

I hope this doesn't come off offensively, but to me, it sounds like you are looking for a career that makes a lot of money with minimal amount of work. Your second and third questions deal with money, and your first and fourth are basically asking how much work you are going to have to do, and if you have to deal with feces. This is the wrong career if your first incentive is money. So here are basic answers: 1.) It's hard work. It's a lot of work. Spend 15 minutes on here reading various posts and you will find this out. Yes, you will have to deal with feces. No clue, and you'll be hard pressed to find someone who is going to tell you what they make. Salary.com works, but it isn't accurate. How much a year do you currently make? I wouldn't expect for you to share that information. It also depends on the type of hospital/area you live in/specialty you work in. 3.) How would anyone know how the facility hands out raises? First off, it's a recession. We are lucky if there are enough nurses on a floor, let alone to receive a raise. Second of all, there is not a blanket raise policy for every hospital. Question 2 and 3 are very company specific questions. 4.) Here is basic info on Cardiac Nursing and Emergency Nursing: Cardiac Nursing - Nursing for Nurses Emergency Nursing - Nursing for Nurses I would also check out the Student Nursing Forums and your local community college to start with checking out the admissions process. That's half the battle.

Ha, I just did this last week! I was opening up a can of commercial pears and my hand slipped, slicing my right thumb and nail completely open! Headed to the ED and lemme tell you.....that lidocaine shot is nothing to mess around with! Most extreme pain in my life! I didn't need stitches or anything though. I just covered it up with a bandaid and then wore a "finger condom" over it, lol. Then, when I went back to work in the kitchen, I was able to put a normal glove right over it to keep going. I think the official name for the "finger condoms" are called Finger Cots and I bought them at Wal-Mart. Good Luck!!!

I looked up the Diva Cup and found out it was made of silicone and unfortunately I have an allergy to silicone (found this out after wearing contacts for over 10 years!) Now I can buy white colored/nude colored undies, which isn't a problem, but I do have one question: Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do when it is "that time of the month" when tampons are not an option? I know this sounds like such a silly question, but I'm genuinely curious! I have had some other nursing students tell me that they wear boxers under their scrubs to avoid VPL (visible panty lines) but that is also going to be noticeable. I just have so many other things to concentrate on that I don't want to have to worry about being able to see outlines through my scrubs, or more importantly, knowing that I have to get to the bathroom immediately while in the middle of clinicals. Gosh I am so embarrassed to ask this, haha. Thanks for all your responses!

NickRN/EMT- The "impaired gas exchange" was in regards to an example of medical vs. nursing dx, as indicated in her post---NOT related to the OP's MI question.

Sinus inflammation? Sinus infection? Sinus discomfort? Sinus congestion? Sinus WHAT? Jus' sayin' it seems like a lot of information was left out of the original post, like others had noted, and it sounded like a student may have posed the question. Regardless, glad you got everything worked out.

Congratulations on getting a job! I'm not sure how much information or advise I can offer: I'm a Nursing student but I do work at a long term, residential care facility for the mentally ill. In no way do I perform nurse duties, so when I work second shift, I prepare dinner, clean up, and run coffee and snack time. My residents (16 of them) are fairly independent - they can come and go as they please, but they do have to be watched. Honestly, it's kind of like being a babysitter. By no means do I mean that offensively (my residents are awesome) but they do tend to have conflicts with each other and turn small matters into large dramatic instances. What I already knew, but never really realized, is how rough having a mental illness is. I have some patients that suffer from bi-polar disorder and it's really rough when they are doing really well and are happy for a week, then the next day they just sit in a corner and are miserable. That's pretty hard to deal with. We have a nurse that comes in twice a day to dispense meds and we can relay information back to her about their attitudes and behaviors, but for the most part I found the hardest thing to do was just watch them go from elation to depression. Oh and of course, a lot of my residents lie and manipulate, so I would definitely watch out for that. I guess that's really all I have to contribute. I was just pointing out that the specialties tab has a lot of awesome information and opens you up to avenues in Nursing you may not have thought of in addition to answering a plethora of questions. There are tabs up on the top of the page that will lead you to other pages, specialties, and topics about BSN/ADN and all that good stuff. Not that we aren't here to help, but it's super helpful and you can learn a lot more than you thought just by browsing those topics, especially L&D and OB. Good Luck!!

In CT we have to take the TEAS test. You have to check with the specific school you are interested in in order to find out their precise requirements--there is no broad answer for all schools.

Sorry to hear you are going through this. The question that I would be asking myself is, "Can I afford to quit right now?" If yes, then do it If not, wait until you have another job lined up. I highly doubt their actions are a reflection of what they think of you. It's the economy right now, and 50 cents might be all they were allocated to give. Obviously you have to decide what to do and what is best for your situation, but it's a big deal when you have a job that you really enjoy and love. Weigh the pros and cons of leaving before you make an (emotional) decision
