  2. You're welcome. To be honest in the hospital I was making 23/hr without shift differential. I am making slightly lower than that now. I don't really know what the other nurses are making. They have all been at the practice for several years. I have a friend who works in an office specializing in behavioral health and her salary equals out to 17/hr which is way too low in my opinion. (I'm not salary though. THANK GOODNESS!!) You and I live in totally different regions though. The cost of living here is not very high. I really wish you luck!!
  3. I do telephone triage for a busy peds office. We talk directly to the parents. They call in and tell us what it going on. From there we decide if they need to come in for a sick appointment or if they can treat at home. We have a book of triage protocols we follow. We send all of our notes/decisions to a doctor. They get back to us or call the parent directly at home if necessary. I call and check on my patients who I advised to treat at home. For instance if a kid is vomiting I give the protocol and call mom/dad to check on them about 4 hours later or the next morning. Typically if the parent is looking for a refill or a test result they can just leave a message. We get back to those through out the day. I didn't think I would like it but I absolutely love it. Good Luck!!
  4. I drive 64 miles round trip 4 days a week. It takes about 40 to 45 minutes. I don't mind the commute.
  5. I am working 8 hours! I don't mind though. We celebrated tonight like we always do. The kids will open their gifts before I leave for work then head to their dad's for the day shortly after. I figure if they aren't around why not work and make the extra money?
  6. I could have wrote this post and this time last year. I was so incredibly scared to graduate and get a job. I worked so hard in nursing school but didn't feel ready to leave that safety net. The last 5 weeks of our program was dedicated to us being on the floor one on one with a nurse for 24 hours a week. It really helped boost my confidence. I was still scared to begin working on my own but I had some confidence in myself. I started my first job as an RN in August. I go to work every day with butterflies of nerves in my stomach. It's nerve wracking but I make it through every day. You will too.
  7. ACLS and APLS (advanced pediatric life support)
  8. There were 3 of us that went to school together precepting on the same floor. We all went together and got an edible arrangement sent for the floor since all the nurses really worked with us and were so kind. I also sent my preceptor a nice card with a small gift card in it.
  9. Best of luck to you! I had about 20 SATA questions. I took the NCLEX-RN and passed with 265.
  10. I took the Ati RN predictor twice. The first time I had a 40% chance of passing the NCLEX-RN. I had 5 weeks left until graduation. I did so many questions and retook the predictor. My second time the results were much better. I got a 91% chance of passing the NCLEX-RN the first time. I continued doing questions and passed the NCLEX-RN in July on my first attempt. The predictor let me see my weak areas which helped me focus when I was doing questions.
  11. Voted for Romney/Ryan!! I live in Pennsylvania.
  12. I graduated in May and just started a position on the oncology floor at a small community hospital. It isn't my dream job but it's a job and I'm super thankful to have it.
  13. I am a very private person so I keep my personal life quiet in a setting like school or work. I did become very close with a fellow classmate and opened up with her. We are still close post graduation. I don't keep private to keep someone from getting jealous. I keep private because that is how I am and have always been.
  14. I am in Pennsylvania and graduated May 2012 from an ADN program and passed boards July 26, 2012. I went on 4 interviews and just accepted a part time position last week. I started applying in June.
  15. I passed NCLEX the first time using primarily ATI. I used some other materials as well (LaCharity, NCLEX 4000). I did not use Kaplan or Hurst to prepare. Best of luck to you!
  16. I passed my boards last week. Yesterday I called the nurse recruiter at the hospital I did my student nurse preceptorship. I let her know that I passed my boards and would love to work at the hospital. She offered me an interview for today. So maybe make some phone calls to follow up on resumes that you have submitted? Best of luck to you.
  17. I graduated May 22, got my ATT June 25th (!!) and took NCLEX on July 25th. Good luck to you!
  18. I took the NCLEX-RN yesterday morning. I had all 265 questions and cried the entire way home (including the added 30 minutes stuck in traffic!) I did the PVT about 2 hours or so after I took the exam. I got the good pop up but of course I was sure that I was the one person who it doesn't work for. As of this morning though I am a registered nurse! The Pennsylvania board of nursing doesn't mess around! My license was listed on the website at 10:00 am today!! I am now a firm believer in the PVT I'm just glad I won't ever have to use it again!!
  19. I got a 40% chance of passing the NCLEX-RN on my first time according to the ATI Predictor. I did 150 questions a day for 5 weeks and re-took the predictor at the end of my preceptorship. According to the retake I had a 90% chance of passing on the first time. I have continued doing questions daily and passed the NCLEX with 265 questions my first time. Don't let your predictor score bring you down!! Edited to add that I used ATI's website,LaChairity, NCLEX4000, and Mosby's Review cards. Best of luck!
  20. Congrats!!! I got the same pop up today too. I really hope it works 100% of the time.
  21. Also I loved the ATI books. I did a lot of my reading from them. They were very straight forward and did not include a lot of filler "fluff" if you know what I mean.
  22. At south our kit contained every thing we needed for skills lab. So in first year it had catheter kits, IV tubing, and other skills we learned. It also had a BP cuff and a pen light. I really don't remember what all was in it but that's what it was used for. It was all in a nice blue tote bag. You have to buy one for second year as well. You must buy the ATI stuff from the campus bookstore like the previous poster said. There will be ATI stuff to purchase every semester.
  23. Thank you for sharing!
  24. We use ATI but it didn't count for points or cause us to fail the class. It was kind of silly. If we did not get a level 2 we had to retake a practice exam until we got a 90%. We did do the ATI Live review which I feel was a good thing.
  25. Regarding lecture there is no policy on attendance. It is recommended that you attend but you don't have to. You must find the notes on your own. The only time you cannot miss is on exam days. With clinical you are allowed to miss between 8 and 16 hours depending on your semester. This time must be made up at the end of the semester on clinical make up days. You are allowed to miss 1 lab. If you miss a lab you must do a self-learning assignment. I do not like the fact that lecture is pretty much optional. No one says anything to those students who are never in attendance.
