Amazing experience c a patient in her final moments
That's amazing! It gave me goose bumps! I am still undecided about what kind of nursing I want to do, but hospice definitely is on my favorites list.

Calling all pen aficionados...please report here
I love the Paper Mate Profile, Pilot Dr Grip Center of Gravity Ballpoint Pen, and the Zebra Original F.301 retractable fine ballpoint pen.

What procedure/situation are you most nervous about encountering?
NG tube is making me the most nervous. I have heard so many horror stories that now I am just dreading it. I'm kind of nervous about learning IVs just because I don't want to miss the vein and have to stab someone a million times. But I am definitely most nervous about learning how to put in and take out a NG tube

What are you carrying all your books in?
I am getting a Zuca bag. I haven't received it yet, but it is ordered and I'm just waiting for my little present.
-
What color is your uniform?
I'm in the same boat. I just posted about how it makes me feel like gumby and all the other nurses call us green beans...
-
What color is your uniform?
Hunter green. Hunter green jacket with the school crest on the arm. Hunter green scrub top with the school name in white on the left side. And hunter green pants. With white shoes. It makes me look and feel like gumby when I have the jacket, top, and pants on. The nurses on the floors like to call us green beans. I so wish we could be in a normal color like blue or black or something besides hunter green!

Highlighting?
Thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely incorporate the different levels of importance in different colors.

Highlighting?
I have a habit of being a highlighter addict. I tend to over highlight and I tend to highlight everything in the same color. This method was ok for general education courses, but I know it won't help me a bit with nursing classes. So, what is your method for highlighting? Do you use different colors for different levels of importance, different topics, etc.? Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

Lunches: Brown bag or cafeteria?
I'm starting nursing school this semester, and for the first time I will be at school during lunch without opportunities to go out and get food. I plan on packing my lunch, I just have to figure out what kind of items to bring (i have a feeling lunchables will be my best friend).

Fall 2011 students, what do you have so far?
I've bought all school supplies (binders, pens, pencils, paper, dividers, folders, etc.). I also have gotten my stethoscope, watch, dansko shoes, white undershirts. Still have to get scrubs and clinical duffel which is ordered through my school just waiting to come in. Waiting for my backpack (picked out just haven't gotten yet). And any other clinical stuff needed. I have almost everything. I'm so excited, but now that it feels like a reality I'm terrified!!!

Emotional Rollercoaster
I too have been having rollercoaster emotions!! First I was on cloud nine and so excited. Then I started doubting myself, then I got excited. Now I got all my school supplies and I am so excited, but I'm terrified something is going to go wrong. I got to this point, and it is meant to be and I know I will succeed but I am absolutely terrified that something will go wrong and I won't succeed in this dream :)

My Goodness
My school gives us a clinical tote with sterile gloves, dressing changes, cath kits, and enema bag for clinical labs - its included in the price of our books rather then paying for it out of pocket; they also give us our hemostat, bandage scissors, pen lite etc. It sounds like your school requires you to get it for lab practice too, although I'm quite surprised they don't just provide it for you. And some of the additional supplies sounds like things you would need for medical school rather then nursing school!

starting Fall 2011 - who we are
when is your start date? august 22nd, 2011 what state are you in? missouri program (lpn, adn, bsn)? bsn program - may 2014 graduation date yippee what is the one piece of advice you are holding onto right now? study, study, study. stay motivated and keep your head up. walk into class with an open mind and ready to learn. at the end of the day care for the patients you are helping, remember why you wanted to do this in the first place, and always do your best!! who is your greatest motivation to complete nursing school? its always been my dream, for as long as i can remember when my mom was in the hospital for cancer/heart/pneumonia and many other things i always watched the nurses. initially i wanted to be a doctor but decided nursing was what was meant for me. i want to help people and i want to make a difference. nursing and caring are things i have always enjoyed doing. i am also doing it for my mom - getting to this point has been a long 6 years and she has supported me and helped me the entire time. although i'm doing it for me i'm doing it for her too, and she is the reason i am going into this field in the first place. also i know this is god's calling for me. i didn't think i was going to get accepted, i knew if i did get accepted it wasn't meerly chance but meant to happen because when i applied i wasn't even sure if i wanted to be a nurse or a doctor. thousands of nursing have done this before me, and hundreds would love to have my spot in the nursing program so i am going in and i'm going do my best!

Countdown to Pinning
Ummm... May 2014 so 3 years :)

Nursing School has it all wrong.
I agree! But I also believe that they have to teach us something specific to give us a baseline, and once we are actually working we will at some point find our definition of nursing and job duties.

Fall 2011 students, what do you have so far?
I'm the same way. I highly recommend the Fruit of Loom or Hanes mens undershirts or tanks!! I hate not wearing anything under scrubs, and the mens shirts are long enough that you can tuck them into the pants (unlike women's undershirts) and when you bend over you don't have to worry about the dreaded plumbers crack from the scrubs slipping down.

Fall 2011 students, what do you have so far?

Ebooks in Nursing School?
All of my fun books I get on my Nook and I love it. But for textbooks I prefer to have it in front of my face. Its all personal preference though.
-
What are the item(s) you need most for nursing school?
26. USB PS. I've also heard a crate that holds file folders is beneficial to hold all graded materials, extra copies of care plans, etc.

Reality hit
I've been busy with summer school so it hasn't hit me yet, but I know it will soon. I'm still at the excited stage, once I get my books, go to orientation, get BLS certified, and buy my supplies I will be at the reality point... Like you, this is the most important decision in my life and one of the best things that has ever happened to me I'm nervous I will blow it. But I'm so ready!!!
