  1. Thank you for your reply! I've just ordered the hard copies for now since I can easily download the ebooks if necessary. I'm hoping there was some sort of break down in communication and they don't expect us to have two copies of each book! Thanks again!
  2. Hello all! I just got my book list for my first semester and it requires both the hard copy textbook AND ebook format for each of the texts. I was just wondering if anybody else is required to purchase both and is this standard for most schools? Those of you who have used both, are they exactly the same just two different formats? I'm having a hard time rationalizing the purchase of both--its expensive and seems unnecessary to me. I would really appreciate any feedback!
  3. I start the program at the end of this month, so I've never heard of ATI. What is it and how do I gain access?
  4. 1. when is your start date? 8/23/2011 2 what state are you in? georgia 3 program (lpn, adn, bsn)? asn 4 what is the one piece of advice you are holding onto right now? "do or do not. there is no try."--yoda (applicable whether you're a star wars nerd or not!) "be excited! if i could go back and do it all over i'd still choose nursing."--a mentor when she heard i'd received my acceptance letter 5. who is your greatest motivation to complete nursing school? myself, my husband, and the children we will have some day
  5. Hello all! Nursing school starts in a month and the school hasn't sent out acceptance letters yet, but I'm trying to be hopeful and prepare just in case--that's a lot of money to spend if you haven't budgeted for it ahead of time! Has anyone used ebooks instead of regular hard-copy textbooks in nursing school? This wasn't an option when I was in college the first time, so I don't know anyone personally who has used them in lieu of regular books. I have a kindle, but I worry about it being more difficult to navigate in class or when studying, and I don't know if I would prefer to have a book that I can quickly flip through or not. I'm attracted to the fact that ebooks are cheaper though! I love my kindle, but I know page numbers will show up differently on my small screen as opposed to a large textbook, etc. Any suggestions or comments about your experience? Any advice is appreciated!
  6. I'm running into the same problem myself. Check with local hospitals for their scholarship opportunities. The hospital here offers employment to students once their clinicals have started as well as full tuition scholarships if you commit to working for them 1-3 years after graduation (depending on the scholarship amount). This is pretty much the only option I have at this point (I'm still paying back loans from my first degree), so I was lucky to find it. I just called the hospital and asked if they had any scholarship opportunities available. It might be worth it to check with hospitals that are out of town but not too far as well, it could be worth the drive. Hope this helps and best of luck to you!
  7. I'm not sure if my input will be helpful, but here's what I've got anyway: I graduated from a major state university in 2009, but I'm a teacher so no jobs were available. I started in Fall 2010 at the community technical college (nursing pre-reqs) and though they transferred my credits, no actual GPA points transferred, so I started with a clean slate. I graduated with a 3.4 but since my actual grades did not transfer I now have a 4.0 because only the courses taken at the tech school have counted toward my GPA. All that to say I would ask them if you could submit transcripts from your university as well, since it may not affect your GPA. If you didn't master the material it would be helpful to take them again, but if you earned credit in some classes I wouldn't want to do them over, especially if your school is like mine and your GPA starts over. From my experience, the information you have been given is not too good to be true! I have also found that I much prefer the smaller class sizes and overall support from the teachers/professors at my technical college as opposed to the large classes/absent professors at the major university. I've been much more successful and more comfortable here--I hope that proves to be the case with you too!
  8. I applied April 1st and we don't find out until the last week of July!! The program starts August 8, so the wait is driving me crazy. I think that's too small of a window to get all the things done that we need, plus prepare for the overall lifestyle change that comes with nursing school. I'm getting quite anxious, but it doesn't do me any good! Congrats to all of those who have been accepted already, I hope to be joining your ranks!
  9. Hi! I'm a second-career potential nursing student as well, formerly a high school teacher. I have decided to go for ADN instead of LPN due to my school's requirements/admissions process. I'm currently attending Southwest GA Technical College, and they accept students into their LPN program based on how long they have been attempting to get into the program. Since I am a second degree student I have not been waiting to start the LPN program long enough and was unable to be accepted for the most recent program in April. I decided instead to try for the ADN program, which starts this August. We don't get our acceptance letters until the end of July so I'm anxiously waiting to hear. All of that to say, be sure to check the program requirements and admissions process for the school(s) you're looking at. The required criteria may surprise you and completely change your plans like they did mine. Best of luck!
