Hi There! Just read your post - could you tell me what part of the country you are in? How did you get the job? I am a CNA in Florida and have been thinking of my next step. Rehab Aide is what I want to do but don't know how to get the position. What experience did you have when you applied? So many questions! I have been a CNA for 8 months and work with a private client through a home health agency. LOVE my job! But would like to move on! Thanks so much! Any information will help! I was in the business world before I became a CNA...

I am a CNA...and have found that something SLIP RESISTANT is a good way to go. Being that you are going to be bathing, etc. I wear the Sketchers Slip Resistant shoes - and have Sketchers DeLites for non skids. Both are comfy.

Do they go through alot of CNA's? I bet they can't keep a good employee in that place and wonder why everyone has attitudes. Go figure. Keep your chin up. They are lucky to have you.

Did you have good references, experience before in a hospital, and what is your pay? How do you like working in a hospital? Do they treat you with respect as a CNA? Thanks for your help! What city are you in?:)

Hi Coffeemate! I must say, you are tremendous in all your threads and advice. I give you many kudos! Thanks for taking the time in helping so many of us. That said... I am taking a short class - (4hours, 4 ceu's) as recommended to me from a fellow employee that works in an assisted living facility as she was working with the resident I was with. I am looking to see the different ways I can work/advance as a CNA - ... I do not want to be a LPN or RN...I really like the home health. I love the independence. Can I make a career of it? Getting experience under my belt is a good thing. Yes, there is stress in any aspect of our work...and I love your attitude in Life! Here in Florida I guess they call it a Med-Tech. I truly understand the responsibilities - can I just say that the pay really does not reflect the job? We should be payed $50,000 a year! as CNA's... Thanks again for all your advice.

How about not making the knot and just making the bowtie...that's what I do since I had the same problem!!!:lol2:Too funny...

Hey everyone! I have been working with a Home Healthcare agency since getting my CNA license in December and love it. I will be taking a class in a few weeks for a Med-Tech certificate. I understand that this can become a full time job handing out meds in an assisted living facility under supervision as a CNA. Does anyone have any advice regarding med-techs? I am trying to get some experience with home health in order to move on to an ALF full-time - or whatever the future holds for me! I feel that I am still unsure about working with "residents" - I freaked out when I forgot how to change a brief the other day...the CNA at the facility just smiled... I got trained by the Red Cross but - one day at a time, right? Thanks!!!! :redbeathe Does experience in Home Health REALLY help in getting a future job???

Where are you located? 10-12hr here in Florida, home health. CNA's pretty much start at that no matter where you go. Hospitals probably more.

Hi everyone! I received my license back in December and have been working with a fantastic home healthcare company since then. I now have a whole 2 months experience! I truly love my job - the pay is small and I am not getting too many hours but I am quite happy. My question is: I would love to move on to an assisted living facility/rehab since I am truly interested in the rehab side. I understand that some facilities move CNA's into a restorative aide job - how do I accomplish this? The experience I am getting with home health is quite different from working in a facility, I know. Can anyone advise me which "avenue" to take....I am happy to even have a job!!!! :) I feel I need to just find the right facility and see if they will hire with home health experience...thanks eveyone!

I have been working in home health now for a little over a month as my first job as a CNA. I am trying to decide if I should move on to a facility as a more stable, and better money, employment. I am not getting very many hours...but LOVE my job! What sort of experience do you recommend if you are not happy and returning to home health? Are you happy with the money in both? What are the pros and cons of both? Why are you going back to home health? Thanks! I understand this particular place is not treating you right.

I have been working in home health for almost a month now as a newly licensed CNA - and find that I LOVE working with the elderly. I feel honored. They are a joy to work with. It is early in the career, but feel that any part of healthcare is where I will be. Just taking care of people in some sort of capacity. But this is a great start! So yes, I genuinely enjoy it. We will ALL be older someday, don't you think?

You know what though? I can tell you that EACH one of those personalities....are in any kind of world...healthcare, offices, alike. I came from being in the financial world for 20 some years and am now working as a CNA. This was too funny to read...and by golly....it is so true! Fuzzy, you are a hoot! I have known each and everyone of those types in my career...too funny. Great post! You must have taken some psychology classes...I have even gone to a seminar on how to deal with "Difficult People."

NO MUCH! I did 3 days in a nursing home, and did not really spend much time with the resiidents. I am getting my experience working in my job as I go with the healthcare agency I work for. Wish I had a bit more hand's on before this - but I am LOVING this so far. You learn as you go. Nothing better than life experience! :imbar I had a month of classes. A "challenger course" as you will....

Congrats to you as well! Where are you located and what will be your duties in the hospital? Just curious! You will be fine on the exam.. :) You go girl!
