stick it out. let this situation teach you something. this is an opportunity for growth on your part. things will get better. i'm a new grad myself and have only been working for the last 4 months. remember what was taught in nursing school and how to keep you, your patients, and your license safe. hang in there!

Me too with the last semester! I've freaked out so much! I'll still do it this semester, but hey that's my thing. I'll be freaking out when I graduate! Hooray for the last semester!!!!!

This is bound to happen when large groups of women get together. The only thing you can control is yourself. I suggest you start to learn to get comfortable by yourself and with yourself. This will enhance your ability to exude confidence in handling these activities. When you're handling your own business, by yourself, it stands out. When you feel like you can't do it, ask for help. No need to feel down about it, be assertive in making sure you get help to handle your business. Last but not least, pray for the pettiness to go away! Much luck!!

I see it a lot, too! Honestly, I think it's a phase that each of us will face. Let's just hope that we will be emotionally intelligent enough to make a change rather than stay in an area that obviously makes us unhappy!

I'm not sure about wearing it other than maybe to conferences or continuing ed. opportunities.

Augusta's medical community is a great place to begin your nursing career. It welcomes new grads and has been supporting nursing students. Careerwise it is a great option. Keep in mind though that Augusta is not like Atlanta when it comes to activities and entertainment. However; it's all in what you like to do on your personal time. I believe that this city is like any other in Georgia.

I grew up in Augusta and have been involved with the medical community. While I won't disagree with the lack of activities to do here, I will attest to the fact that this city is like any other. There will be some crime here and there, but the fact of the matter is that this is a great place to live. I expect that new grads wouldn't be frequenting the types of places that harbor trouble. That should be the same in any city. The medical community is great! You would be in a great position to start a career in Augusta. MCG is known for having great staffing and is ready for new people. University has a great Cardiac tower. I don't know too much about Trinity and Doctor's. I was just there for clinical. Eisenhower is great. I started volunteering there in middle school and fell in love with the health field. In my opinion, Augusta is ripe for new grads and even students in nursing school.

Just focus on what you can control. Everything else is out of your hands so just forget it.

In response to a request from the State legislature, the University System of Georgia is preparing a summary of $300 million in budget reductions for the next academic year. This $300 million reduction is in addition to the $264 million that has already been cut in the Governor's proposed budget. In yesterday's meeting with the joint House-Senate Budget Committee, Chancellor Davis described the magnitude of a reduction of a $385 million cut as equivalent to cutting "the entire budget for 23 of the state's 35 universities." In total we are looking at reductions of $633 million over the last two years. Our valued professors in Georgia are already paid some of the lowest salaries in the United States. Further cuts could include additional furloughs, layoffs, and substantially reduced salaries which would have a direct negative impact on our education. As students in the USG we could see the following effects from these drastic budget reductions: -Operating expenses would be reduced roughly 10% at every College or University in Georgia -Tuition could rise 77% -Some majors could be eliminated -As a result of class cuts, it would take much longer to graduate Remember, these budget cuts have just been proposed and not yet enacted. We still have time to combat these changes!

I'm starting in January as well! Orientation is on the 4th and classes start on the 6th. I'm starting to feel anxious about this new transition in my life.

I originally went to school wanting to become a heathcare professional. However when I graduated, I chose to explore the world of Public Health and ended up working for a managed care company. My work involves working with members of our plan and I work within our health services department. With being around clinicians, providers, and helping people; the desire to get back to the clinical side of things came back. I noticed that I wanted to do more and know more in helping patients. The decision to go back to school for nursing seemed like a perfect fit to what it is I like to do.

Hey Amelia, No problem. I'm glad to help! I'm not sure about the GPA. My grad school GPA was higher than undergrad. I'm in the program as a post bacc student...that's why I'm not sure about the GPA. I want to say it was a 3.6. Patho is a course, I think, we'll take while in the program. When you're accepted they'll let you know what courses are required for the 1st semester (Foundations, Nutrition, clinical pharmacology and your choice of an elective).

No problem! The one I took at Augusta State, in September, was the TEAS 4.0. To be honest, I think they want you to physically come in and be advised. You also need to have been accepted into Augusta State in order to get an appt. It sucks because I had to work an appt in around my full time work schedule. I have an 8-5! Since you're out of town, they may give you some slack. You're transcripts need to have been sent from Clayton State, too so they can evaluate whether or not your class credit will transfer. If your school is part of the University System of Georgia, then you should have little to no problem. Here's hoping for a little understanding for your situation.... The staff were real sticklers about giving the application out, though. That was another thing I had to come into the department for. Perhaps you can take a day off to get some of the preliminary stuff out the way. For now, go online and see who your advisor will be. They assign them to students alphabetically. Contact your "advisor" via e-mail and explain your situation from there. If you're lucky, your advisor may be an advocate for you and help you get some of that adminstrative stuff out the way so you can meet the application deadline.

Hey Amelia, Yes, you do have to take the TEAS test. It must be done (in addition to meeting all pre-req's and being advised) before you can get an application for the program. I think Feb. is the deadline for Fall 2010. Good luck to you!
