  1. Wow talk about being insensitive and assuming everyone is just trying to get a job within their area. I've applied all over the country and have had no luck.
  2. I'll be writing a letter as well! Hopefully even nurses with jobs can write letters as well, especially if they personally know of nurses struggling to find work.
  3. Did you work at least a year in the USA? As after looking at the website briefly it says that one also has to have had a year of experience in the last 6 months.
  4. That would explain things a bit in regards to the number of canceled invitations to interview. That is something I would never do either, being a scab worker.
  5. Please list any hospitals hiring new grads other than Washington Hospital Center, as I have come up empty handed.
  6. If you haven't received the confirmation e-mail yet, it's not likely you will. They have completed their confirmation e-mails and all spots for interviews are full. (or so they told me, reason why you see those of us who were invited, got rejection confirmation e-mails)
  7. Just got my rejection letter for an interview...
  8. I doubt it, being that I was told well over 300 applicants were under consideration. I'm starting to think they invited everyone to an interview by mistake and are trying to cover themselves. If they didn't have the faculty to conduct that many interviews, why invite that many in the first place? I actually gave up a part time job (non-nursing) in order to go this interview as I had to say I would be gone next week and once they knew I had the interview they decided against hiring me. These hospitals don't really care what effect they have the community or individual.
  9. That's a horrible thing to do, invite someone to an interview and then cancel it. Very, very unprofessional, especially considering what plans those of us have put aside in order to make time for the interview itself. Can either of you post what the e-mail said?
  10. Starting to think they won't be contacting me about this job, which I think is really unprofessional of this hospital. It's already pretty unprofessional expecting those of us from out of state keeping our schedules opened up in order to make the potential trip to DC. It's Friday and my interview date is supposed to be next Wednesday. I take it none of you have heard anything either?
  11. I think that rehab/skilled nursing facilities can hurt you on the pure fact that in order to handle the average patient load nurses end up utilizing short cuts in order to achieve their job requirements. In that sense hiring managers are leary that you might not be able to change those learned bad habits when transitioning to the hospital environment.
  12. I don't have a DC license, but I have applied for a MD license which is part of the compact state license. I would hope that WHC will help those of us who are out of state in obtaining a DC license, as like you, I'm not going to apply for one if I don't have the job.
  13. 5... Actually I have no idea, but I highly doubt that it goes past 80 and if I had to guess I'd venture to say it's below 50. Especially if they have these orientations twice a year and the fact that the amount of nurses retiring is extremely low.
  14. I called them today and they said they are currently working through the massive backlog of 300 plus candidates.
  15. I haven't heard anything yet. I really hope that I hear something tomorrow, as I want to schedule my flight using miles.
  16. What date did you pick for your interview?
  17. The job market for new grad nurses is horrible, so one has to be willing to relocate in order to find a job in some cases. I guess it makes me feel better than others haven't received the confirmation e-mail, but it is a bit ridiculous that they wanted a response within 48 hours, yet we are less than a week away from the first interview date without hearing anything further.
  18. Hear anything regarding the interview yet? Anyone else got an invite to interview? I really wish they would give a confirmation on the interview, so that those of use who live out of state can make reservations as far as travel and accommodation go.
  19. I got an e-mail for an interview as well, but haven't gotten a confirmation e-mail yet on the exact time. I live in MI and have a license there. Graduated in 2009, but haven't managed to get a year in at a hospital, so this opportunity would be fantastic. Anyone have any information on the interview itself?
  20. Can you provide mor information on this career avenue? What company are you working for? How did you go about searching for such a career? Thanks for any information you can provide.
  21. Wow somebody is not in sync with what the job market is really like right now for nurses, whether they be ADN or BSN.
  22. What state do you work in?
  23. I graduated in May of 2009 and passed the NCLEX in August, but have been unable to find a job as an RN. In fact I haven't even gotten the chance at an interview, all that I have gotten in response is that the hospital is looking for somebody with experience. I have put in over 100 applications within and outside of Michigan, but it is seemingly hopeless and futile, as no hospitals want to invest the time and money into a new graduate. Instead it seems all these positions are being filled by retired nurses who are going back to work due to the decline of the economy. I'm at a point where I might be forced out of nursing without ever really getting into it, as I can't not have a job that will allow me to function financially. This would mean being out of the nursing field for that much longer and therefore even less desirable as a candidate for employment. If anyone knows of any hospital in Michigan that is hiring new graduate nurses I would very much appreciate it if you could post in this thread. This is pretty much my last ditch effort, before I have to start thinking of an alternative to better my future.
  24. What hospital?
